00:00Welcome back. We live on this giant blue marble but how well do we actually know it?
00:06Most of our planet remains a total mystery. Today we're digging deep to uncover five secrets about
00:12Earth that you probably never knew. One, there is a hidden ocean inside the Earth. Forget the
00:18surface. Scientists have discovered evidence of a massive reservoir of water trapped 400 miles
00:24underground in a rock called Ringwoodite. This inner ocean isn't liquid. The water is trapped
00:30inside the crystal structure of the rock. It's estimated to hold three times more water than
00:36all the oceans on the surface combined. 2. Mount Everest isn't the tallest. Wait what? While
00:43Everest has the highest altitude above sea level, it's not the tallest from base to peak. That title
00:49belongs to Mauna Kea in Hawaii. If you measure from its base on the ocean floor to its peak,
00:55it stands at over 10,000 meters, making it significantly taller than Everest's 8,848 meters.
01:03It's just that most of it is underwater. 3. The Earth is a giant magnet. Our planet has a
01:09protective force field. Earth's core is a spinning ball of liquid iron and nickel, which creates a
01:15massive magnetic field. This field acts like a shield protecting us from deadly solar radiation
01:21and solar winds. Without this invisible magnet, Earth would be a barren wasteland like Mars.
01:274. The Saharan Dust Feed. Did you know the Amazon rainforest depends on the Sahara Desert?
01:34Every year, millions of tons of nutrient-rich dust are blown across the Atlantic Ocean from the Sahara
01:39to South America. This dust provides the essential phosphorus the Amazon needs to stay lush
01:45and green. One side of the world literally feeds the other. 5. The Antarctic is actually a desert.
01:53When you think of a desert, you think of heat, right? Actually, a desert is defined by low
01:58precipitation. Parts of Antarctica haven't seen rain or snow in nearly 2 million years. It is the largest,
02:06driest, and coldest desert on the planet. From underground oceans to dust that travels across
02:11the world, Earth is much stranger than it looks. Subscribe to my channel because the more you know the wiser
02:18you become. See you on my next video.
