"We can't return to the West Indies' glory days," was the candid admission from Justin Greaves...

Still, the all-rounder says the Caribbean men remain upbeat and determined as they hunt a first Test win in New Zealand in 30 years...

Greaves was speaking after day two, assessing the Windies' showing with both bat and ball.
Transcript
00:00After only picking up a solitary wicket on day one, day two could have been much worse for the West Indies,
00:05especially without Kemar Roach.
00:07And Justin Graves, who picked up a pair of wickets, was more than pleased with the bowling performance.
00:12No, it's just about, you know, backing up yesterday.
00:15I think we were a bit unfortunate sometimes.
00:17We went past the back quite a few times yesterday.
00:19We never really got that edge that really went through to us.
00:22But, you know, just being confident and, you know, trying to back our skills
00:26and trying to be a little bit more consistent today.
00:28We had a long chat with our bowling coach, Ravi.
00:31So it was just about being patient and being in those areas long enough.
00:35And obviously something happened for us today.
00:37Just as important was the response with the bat facing a daunting target.
00:41And Graves was full of praise for his openers.
00:43I just think they pretty much took a pitch from the New Zealand boys' book.
00:47You know, it's a pretty good pitch.
00:49Outside of the odd ball, probably jumping a little bit or staying down a bit.
00:53I think the guys are really positive in going about their business this evening.
00:56Because, you know, after a long day in the field, you know, we could have been two or three down
01:00with just some lazy shots or what's not.
01:02But, you know, a really, really solid, positive performance from the guys at the back end.
01:06The New Zealand tour has been a case of near misses for the West Indies
01:09as they've shown fright both in the limited overs and test series.
01:13Yet they have failed to convert their efforts into wins.
01:16But Graves said they remain positive.
01:18You know, we can't bring back the glory days.
01:21We would love to.
01:22Yeah, but it's this group of guys that we're trying to focus on as much as possible.
01:27You know, we haven't won a test match in New Zealand in how long, Joe?
01:30In 30 years, yeah.
01:31So it's not just us that have struggled in New Zealand.
01:36You know, it's been quite a while we've been struggling.
01:38But, you know, I think we came pretty close in Christchurch.
01:42We weren't at our best in Wellington.
01:45And I think we've got a pretty good chance here,
01:47especially the way we came back today.
01:49And then obviously the batting performance at the end of the day.
01:52So, you know, it was always positive, always looking forward.
