00:00Hello, very good afternoon to you. As we go through the end of the year, for many it is going to stay fine and dry.
00:07Decent amount of sunshine on offer as well, all because there's high pressure to the northwest of the UK
00:12and the ridge with this high is extending its way southeastwards across the country.
00:17Worth noting, however, the further away from the high centre you are, the greater chance you have of seeing a few showers.
00:23So some eastern coastal parts of England, perhaps even some southern southeastern coastal parts, seeing a few showers through the end of Tuesday and overnight.
00:32Most places, like I say, though, having a lot of fine weather, more sunshine through Tuesday compared to Monday.
00:37But worth noting that we do have some slightly colder air across us.
00:42And so temperatures, if anything, a little bit lower, peaking generally in the low to mid single figures across northern parts,
00:48mid to high single figures across southern areas.
00:51And there is a bit of a breeze towards some eastern parts. That's going to add to the chilly feel here.
00:57Through the night, apart from a few showers across some eastern, southeastern parts, for many it is going to be dry.
01:02Lots of clear skies around as well. And under those clear skies, well, temperatures are going to drop.
01:07It is going to be a widely frosty night. In fact, some places could get as low as minus 7, minus 8 Celsius, that kind of thing.
01:14Across the shelter glens of Scotland and even elsewhere, many places dropping to around, if not below, freezing.
01:20So, yes, a lot of frost indeed. The exception being perhaps across the far northeast of Scotland.
01:25A bit more blustery here. Some stronger winds and some showery rain affecting Orkney and Shetland.
01:31And also some southern, southeastern parts of England. A bit more cloud developing here.
01:35Could also be some fog as well.
01:38And so, if the cloud develops, well, temperatures perhaps not dropping quite as low. Some places just about staying above freezing.
01:44But there is the potential that we could see a combination of both the fog and also temperatures dropping below freezing.
01:50So there could be some freezing fog patches around for some first thing on New Year's Eve.
01:54Could cause some problems on the roads.
01:56Otherwise, as we go through New Year's Eve, well, any fog and low cloud in the south, that should generally break up and clear away as we go into the afternoon.
02:05And for many, staying largely fine through much of the day.
02:08A lot of bright, sunny weather on offer, particularly across central and southern parts.
02:12For Scotland, it's a slightly different story.
02:14After a bright, frosty start, it is going to turn cloudier through the day.
02:18And there will be strengthening winds and some showery outbreaks of rain pushing their way in as well.
02:24Temperatures for many look like they're going to be, well, similar to Tuesday, really.
02:29Maybe a degree or so lower across some central and southern parts of England and maybe a few degrees higher across parts of Scotland.
02:36But with the cloud, the strengthening winds, less sunshine, if anything, it might feel a little bit chillier for some places here compared to Tuesday.
02:44Later, as we go through the end of New Year's Eve, through the end of Hogmanay and towards 2026, we're going to increasingly see those strengthening winds across parts of Scotland.
02:57And they'll be pushing in plenty of showers, mainly falling as rain, but some winteriness, some sleet or snow, quite likely over higher ground.
03:04And a few of those showers will be pushing into parts of Northern Ireland and the far north of England as well.
03:10Further south, across central and southern England and Wales, staying dry here as we go into the new year.
03:14But worth noting, particularly across some southern parts of England, well, we could have quite a bit of frost and also the potential for some more fog as well,
03:22which could cause some problems if you're planning any fireworks.
03:25Then, through into New Year's Day, well, it's worth bearing in mind that we're likely to see plenty of snow showers piling in from the north,
03:34particularly across northern parts of Scotland.
03:36And so, both through Thursday and into Friday, there's a reasonable chance that we're going to see some significant snow building up.
03:42Already have a snow and ice warning out because we could see 2 to 5 centimetres quite widely, locally 10 centimetres, even to lower levels,
03:49perhaps 10 to 20 centimetres above 200 metres and maybe 30 centimetres or so over the highest routes.
03:55That's because it's not just the snow showers, but also the strong winds, which will combine to lead to drifting, blowing snow.
04:01And so, we could see that low-lying snow really building up.
04:06Also, worth bearing in mind that we could see some thunder and lightning mixed in,
04:09so a bit of thundersnow as we go through the first few days of 2026.
04:14Of course, stay up to date with the Met Office because we may need to update those warnings as we get nearer the time.
04:20So, make sure you are fully on top of the story.
04:22Bye-bye.
04:22Bye-bye.
