00:01The last couple of months have been amazing.
00:04But we don't even know what this is yet.
00:06Whatever this is, I'm in.
00:09Amelia?
00:11I know you.
00:12How you doing?
00:14Pretty wild, starting a parenting journey at this point in your life?
00:19Sometimes I worry about how this is gonna work, you and I raising a kid together.
00:24So, who did it? What's your name?
00:27Sharon, you're tired, aren't you?
00:29It's okay, Bert. You can just sit.
00:41Help!
00:45I think your doorbell's broken.
00:46It worked fine. I was sleeping.
00:48What happened to your key?
00:49I lost it.
00:50You were sleeping?
00:52Since when do you sleep past six?
00:54Since when are you up before noon?
00:56And what's with the suit?
00:58Dude, was this a Halloween costume?
01:00This is 100% polyester I'll have you now.
01:03That's not good.
01:04It's for work.
01:05Wait, you got a bike?
01:07Uh, yeah, I got a bike.
01:09Sorry, you got a job that requires you to wear something besides a ratty t-shirt?
01:13Well, I see that you're currently enjoying one of my ratty-
01:15I don't wanna miss your breakfast rush.
01:17Shh.
01:18Hey.
01:19What's up, dude?
01:20Look, I didn't know.
01:21I thought she was single.
01:22Ew.
01:23Ew.
01:24I'm her brother.
01:25No.
01:26Well, cool.
01:27Uh, nice to meet you, man.
01:29Yeah.
01:30Um, have you seen my pants?
01:33I think they're by the couch.
01:35Oh.
01:36Thanks.
01:39Um, just gonna use the bathroom.
01:41Aye, aye, Cap.
01:43Impulse pie?
01:44No, what are you even doing here, Cap?
01:47Oh, so, um, do you still have Mom's ring?
01:50I, uh, kinda got some important news.
01:52I don't wanna sit down for this.
01:56Okay.
01:57Uh, I am proposing to my girlfriend.
01:59Aw, how far along is she?
02:01Seriously, Katie, Gemma is the most amazing person on the planet.
02:04We're hanging out in Andersonville tonight.
02:06You should stop by and meet her.
02:09Guess I'll be heading out, then.
02:10Uh-huh.
02:11Oh, get out.
02:12All right.
02:13Quick eats?
02:14Or is this like a quickie?
02:17Hell of a tip.
02:18Cap.
02:19What?
02:20I'm happy for both of you.
02:21Sex makes the world go round.
02:23Yeah, sometimes I get to meet some pretty cool people.
02:29So do you have Mom's ring, or are you gonna save it for the delivery, dude?
02:38So it's just the ultrasound today, right?
02:40Uh, yeah.
02:41Yeah.
02:44Hi.
02:47I'm Dr. Lavelle.
02:48Dr. Clark had to step out to do a delivery, so I'm gonna be doing your ultrasound today, okay?
02:53Okay, yeah.
02:54Uh, sure.
02:56Before we get started, two very important questions.
02:59Question number one.
03:00Do either of you know who I was supposed to be?
03:05The cat.
03:06I'm the cat that went viral for looking like Eugene Levy.
03:09Remember he had those funny markings on his fur like eyebrows?
03:11Oh, you know, I'm not really active on Instagram.
03:13On Facebook.
03:14It's time to move on to TikTok.
03:15Heh.
03:16Anyway.
03:19Question two.
03:20Do we wanna learn the baby's sex today?
03:21Yes, we would.
03:22I'd rather not.
03:23So, um, I was kind of thinking it would be nice if we kept it a surprise.
03:30Oh, you really think we need any more surprises?
03:34I mean, why is learning the sex so important?
03:37I mean, it would help to figure out the design of the nursery?
03:41You could always do a gender-neutral theme.
03:43Outer space.
03:44The ocean.
03:45Woodland creatures.
03:46Oh, yes.
03:47Those are great ideas.
03:48Thanks.
03:49Yeah, I'm really not worried about the nursery.
03:52Okay.
03:53Well, then we'll just revisit it at our next visit.
03:58I'll make a note for Dr. Clark.
04:00Are you ready?
04:01Yeah.
04:02All right.
04:04Okay.
04:06Knock, knock.
04:07We were supposed to meet at Lou Mitchell's for breakfast this morning, birthday boy.
04:11Mom told you to get my text.
04:12I'm so sorry.
04:13I can't do it today.
04:14This day has turned into an actual frickin' nightmare.
04:16I'm so sorry.
04:17Yeah, we got your text.
04:18We chose to ignore it.
04:19Did you really think we were gonna let you wriggle away from any and all humiliation?
04:24Do your colleagues realize how old you are?
04:27Oh, hey!
04:29This guy is 65 today.
04:31Tell a friend.
04:32Would you have a lighter by any chance?
04:34Oh, almost forgot your present.
04:35Not that I smoke, but, um...
04:37Oh, this was obviously Howie's idea.
04:42Ta-da!
04:43Whoa!
04:44Oh, here we go.
04:46Shippers.
04:47Guys, they're gorgeous.
04:49Are they fancy?
04:51That's my name.
04:52I don't even play golf.
04:54Uh, not yet you don't.
04:56You're always talking about how the ED is a young person's game.
05:00Certainly, you must be getting tired of fighting the same old fight.
05:03Make a wish.
05:09Not even 9 a.m. and we're already getting Halloween injuries.
05:12So glad I'm off tonight.
05:14Big plans?
05:15Uh, Sadie and I are taking Amelia trick-or-treating.
05:19Really?
05:20Well, so that's kind of turned into a, uh, a bit of a thing.
05:24Yeah, a really nice thing.
05:25Dr. Ripley, you're on deck going to treatment four.
05:28Eight-year-old boy, fall down at school, trauma to the face.
05:30Teacher rode in with him.
05:31Sorry, pal.
05:32No rest for the weary.
05:33Actually, Dr. Charles, you're needed, too.
05:35It's a possible psych issue.
05:36Hmm.
05:37Trick or treat.
05:38Lucas, early eight-year-old male.
05:41Two centimeter through and through laceration below the lip.
05:43Lower two front teeth went through the skin.
05:45It's okay, Lucas.
05:46This teacher, Ms. Herrera.
05:47You're safe.
05:48These doctors are gonna help you.
05:49How did this happen?
05:50He was running, tripped and hit his chin on a curb.
05:53Okay.
05:54Hi, Lucas.
05:55I'm Dr. Ripley.
05:56We're gonna take you for a little ride, okay?
05:58On my count.
05:59One, two, three.
06:02Lucas, do you mind if I move this jacket a little so I can take a look?
06:06It might take him a minute to warm up.
06:08Did he get overstimulated by all the Halloween costumes?
06:11Northbrook doesn't allow costumes at school.
06:13Could I, uh, speak with one of you outside?
06:17Of course.
06:18Thanks, guys.
06:20Lucas?
06:22I don't even know what to call it.
06:24He became extremely agitated and tried running away from school.
06:27Thank God he tripped.
06:29Northbrook Academy is on a very busy road.
06:31If he had run into the street, I don't know what would have happened.
06:34Yes, Herrera.
06:35Are you aware that you're bleeding?
06:37What?
06:38It's just a small cut.
06:39I didn't think it was that bad.
06:40What happened?
06:41Get away!
06:44Lucas, Lucas.
06:45I'm not gonna hurt you, okay?
06:46I'm a doctor.
06:47I'm here to help.
06:48No, you're not a doctor.
06:49You're all the bad people.
06:51The bad people?
06:52The monsters!
06:54You're all monsters!
06:57So the baby is measuring right where it should be.
07:12One thing I did want to mention is the nuchal translucency is on the high end of normal.
07:17Uh, what's the measurement?
07:19It's, uh, 3.0.
07:20An increase in the NT.
07:22That can be a sign of chromosomal and genetic abnormalities, right?
07:26Yes, but given that all of Hannah's blood work was normal, I'm really not stressed about it.
07:30Oh, I'm glad you're not, but I am stressing.
07:32Uh, what can we do for this?
07:34Um, nothing.
07:36At the moment, we can bring Hannah back in a few weeks for an early anatomy scan.
07:40Is that the game plan?
07:41Watch and wait?
07:42I mean, that is what I would recommend for my own patient, so...
07:45I mean, I don't think it's necessary at this point, but we could discuss doing an amniocentesis to...
07:51No, no.
07:52No.
07:53Sorry, no.
07:54Uh, my noninvasive prenatal testing and genetic carrier screenings were both normal, so...
07:59So, what about the genetic issues that don't show up on those tests?
08:03Can you diagnose those conditions with an amnio?
08:09Yes.
08:10Yes, but it is also totally overkill at this moment.
08:15Totally.
08:16And it's not worth the risk.
08:18Trust me, I'm an OB.
08:20Okay.
08:21All right.
08:22All right.
08:23But you can't always use the, trust me, I'm an OB, I know best card.
08:26Okay.
08:27Well, then how about the, it's my body and I'm not doing it card?
08:30That okay?
08:31Cool, cool, cool.
08:33Well, I think that's everything.
08:35Do either of you guys have any other questions for me?
08:38No.
08:39Thank you, Dr. Martha.
08:43So, why do you think Lucas attacked you with scissors?
08:46He didn't attack me.
08:48Well, then how would you characterize what happened?
08:51He was terrified.
08:53Trying to protect himself.
08:54Right.
08:55Terrified of?
08:56Me.
08:57Yeah.
08:58Any history of mental illness you know about?
09:02No.
09:03Not to my knowledge, at least.
09:04Okay.
09:05No recent injuries or any kind of health issues?
09:08Lately, Lucas has just been a bit more subdued.
09:14Down in the dumps.
09:15Like, not quite himself.
09:16Interesting.
09:17And how long ago did you start to notice that?
09:20A few days ago.
09:21We have parent-teacher conferences on Friday.
09:24I was gonna check in with his foster parents then.
09:26Oh.
09:27How long has Lucas been in foster care?
09:29Since he was six.
09:30He's been with his current foster parents, Tim and Lisa, for about a year, I think.
09:35I've been reaching out to them, but it just keeps going to voicemail.
09:38And does he seem pretty happy with them, you think?
09:41It's hard to say.
09:42I mean, Lucas is one of those kids who rarely complains about anything.
09:46So even if he wasn't happy, I'm not sure he'd tell me.
09:50Okay.
09:51You know what?
09:52It's good to know.
09:53Thank you, Miss Herrera.
09:54This has all been really helpful.
09:56Of course.
09:57Of course.
09:58Lucas is just such a sweet boy.
10:00I really hate to see him like this.
10:02We are gonna get to the bottom of this.
10:05I promise you.
10:08Mitch.
10:10How's he doing?
10:11I'm pretty freaked out.
10:13What do you think's going on?
10:15Early onset schizophrenia?
10:16That'd be very early.
10:17Just highly unusual.
10:19It doesn't really align with the presentation.
10:21The teacher just told me that he hasn't really been himself the last few days.
10:25I'm just wondering, I don't know, if there's a trigger in there somewhere.
10:28I, uh, I did see in his chart that, uh, he's in foster care.
10:32Yeah, he just told me.
10:34I'm gonna let him chill out for a bit and then just, I don't know, go back in and see if I can get him to talk to me.
10:39Okay?
10:40Yeah.
10:45Geez, another body.
10:46Oh, that room's giving me the heebie-jeebies.
10:49I think there's a spirit of the deceased hanging out in there.
10:52Okay, I'll bite.
10:53Why would anybody hang around treatment five longer than they have to?
10:56They're looking to take more spirits with them, obviously.
10:58The last three patients we put in there have died.
11:00No, that's not...
11:01Mm-hmm.
11:02Oh, actually, yeah, you're right.
11:04Yeah.
11:05My gut says it's the spirit of Mr. Crowley.
11:07You know, that elderly gentleman who said I looked like a young Goldie Hawn, and then he died of MI.
11:12Didn't he have cataracts in both eyes?
11:14Okay, that's beside the point, Dr. Archer.
11:16I need some help over here.
11:17Trauma three is open.
11:19What's going on?
11:20This is my roommate, Jenny Rozelle.
11:21Her period's been really bad, and she hasn't left our dorm room in two days.
11:24I went to go check on her after my intro to econ class this morning, and she was burning up.
11:28I called my dad, who's a doctor.
11:30Oh, he's a dermatologist, but he knows the basic stuff, and he said that I should call Campus Health, but Jenny kept saying no, and she was fine, and she wouldn't let me call her.
11:36You did the right thing bringing her in.
11:38We're gonna help you into the bed, okay, Jenny?
11:40Here, let me give you my number.
11:41I'll get it from you, Amy.
11:42Let's give the doctor some room.
11:44Bye, Jenny.
11:45Feel better.
11:46Temps 102.3.
11:47She's tachycardic.
11:48Heart rate's 143, BP 80 over 45.
11:51I'm gonna palpate your abdomen, Jenny.
11:52Let me know if anything feels tender.
11:56Her uterus is enlarged.
11:58Ultrasound.
11:59Let's give four of morphine and hang a liter of saline.
12:06Her endometrial lining is thickened, and I'm seeing pockets that could be air, endometritis, or pelvic inflammatory disease.
12:14Let's order a sepsis panel and an HCG test.
12:17In the meantime, start Zosyn IV and Lupin Dr. Asher.
12:20We're gonna get you feeling better, Jenny.
12:26You want some jam and butter on your toast?
12:31Maybe just some butter, huh?
12:33Oh!
12:36Oh!
12:38Okay.
12:40Never mind.
12:46You know, I went to see Isaiah in his preschool recital on Tuesday, and you gotta see the little three-piece suit that Tara had him in.
12:56You know, I think I have a picture for you.
13:00Let's see.
13:01It was so ridiculous, but so stinkin' cute.
13:07Look at this.
13:09Isn't he something?
13:11Ooh!
13:13Who is that handsome little guy?
13:15Hey, Tamika.
13:17He looks like a mini Youper.
13:19This is our grandson, Isaiah.
13:21Whoa!
13:22He is a cutie pie!
13:24Yeah, and believe me, he knows it.
13:26Uses it to get anything he wants out of his mother.
13:31How are we doing today, Bert?
13:35Fine.
13:39Who's your grandson dressing up as?
13:40Um, you know, one of those, uh, superheroes all of his little friends have obsessed on.
13:48I...
13:49I can't remember the name.
13:51Look, you don't wanna spill that.
13:53Don't touch that!
13:54I just wanted to move it out of the way so you won't spill it.
13:58Bert?
14:00You could just leave that on the table.
14:01Come on, let's leave this on the table.
14:02Give me the plate, okay?
14:04I don't want you here!
14:05You think I wanna be?
14:33Morning, Sharon.
14:34Hey.
14:37Uh, I know I look a mess.
14:39No, no, you look, you look fine.
14:40You okay?
14:42Uh, any dementia in your family?
14:45Yeah, my Uncle Paul, my mother's brother.
14:47Do you remember the anger phase?
14:50He would rage at my poor mother.
14:53Using all sorts of very strong language we didn't even think he knew.
14:57You won't ever hear me call my ex-husband a saint.
15:01But one thing he never did.
15:04Not...
15:06Once...
15:07During the entirety...
15:09Of our marriage...
15:11Did he raise his voice at me?
15:14You know, when Bert got mad, he got softer.
15:17Not louder.
15:18I could count on one hand the number of times he raised his voice.
15:24And they've all happened since his diagnosis.
15:28Including this morning.
15:29I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
15:31And you know that's not even why I'm upset.
15:35I'm just really mad at myself because...
15:39I lost it.
15:43I yelled back at him.
15:45Okay, Sharon, listen to me.
15:47You are navigating highly stressful uncharted waters with someone who you really did not see yourself going through this with.
15:55Yeah, but...
15:57It's Bert going through it.
16:00Yes.
16:02And you're going through it too.
16:04Let me get myself together.
16:05Okay.
16:06Okay.
16:14She definitely has endometritis.
16:15High white count.
16:16Elevated procalcitonin and lactate.
16:18And her roommate said she's having a bad period.
16:21But her pregnancy test is positive.
16:24And I didn't see an embryo on her ultrasound.
16:27Yeah, her thickened uterine lining is likely from retained product.
16:31She's having a miscarriage.
16:38Lucas, how you feeling?
16:39No, no, please go away.
16:40Lucas, I'm not going to hurt you.
16:41Get away!
16:42I promise I'm not going to hurt you, buddy.
16:45Hey, do you think you could describe to me what it is that you're seeing that's making you so upset?
16:50Please don't hurt me.
16:51Go away, go away.
16:52Hey, you know what?
16:54Miss Herrera told me that you like to draw and that you were actually pretty good at it.
16:59Is that true?
17:00Go away.
17:02Okay, well, you know something I've learned about drawing is that if I draw a picture of something that I'm scared of, it can make it quite a lot less scary for me.
17:11Do you think you might be able to draw a picture for me?
17:13You can just use my iPad, draw with your finger?
17:16You think you might be able to do that for me?
17:19Okay.
17:20You go, don't look at me.
17:21I'm just going to hand it to you.
17:22I'm just going to hand it to you.
17:45Wow.
17:47Who is this?
17:53It's you.
17:59The pregnancy hormone can take several weeks to leave your body, which is why you still have a positive pregnancy test.
18:05Jenny, is there anyone you want to call?
18:08Maybe your parents?
18:09No.
18:10Please, you can't tell my parents.
18:11Okay, I won't.
18:13You're an adult and I won't tell them or anyone else without your permission.
18:20Am I in trouble?
18:21We just, we want to get you feeling better, okay?
18:24The reason you're sick is because your uterus has retained parts of your placenta, which has become infected.
18:30You will need surgery to remove this.
18:31I need surgery?
18:32Yes.
18:33But it is a minor and very safe procedure.
18:36In the meantime, I would like to collect vaginal cultures so we can pinpoint the bacteria that's causing your infection.
18:42Is that okay with you?
18:43Hmm.
18:45Okay.
18:47Okay, let me just grab a nurse to assist.
18:50Keep looking at the wall, keep looking at the wall and just sliding over here.
18:56Okay.
18:57Now look, you don't have to look at me and I promise I won't move any closer.
19:01Lucas, across my heart I'm not a monster, but I absolutely believe that when you look at me, that's what you see.
19:11Because I think that your brain is playing a trick on you.
19:15A trick?
19:16Yeah.
19:17And I'm going to prove that to you right now by taking a picture of myself.
19:25Now I'm going to show it to you.
19:27Here, here comes the iPad.
19:29That's okay.
19:30That's okay.
19:34That's you?
19:35Yeah.
19:36Not a monster, right?
19:39No.
19:41Okay, Jenny, so you're going to feel my hand on your thigh.
19:45Okay, is that back in one?
19:47All right, now you're going to feel a little pressure.
19:51I know, I'm sorry.
19:53I know that the infection makes it extra, extra tender, so I will be gentle.
20:00Dr. Asher, are you ready for the swab?
20:04Dr. Asher.
20:08Um, yeah, sorry.
20:10Culture swab, please.
20:17Okay.
20:20Okay, I will be right back.
20:22Wait, wait, where are you going?
20:23It's okay.
20:24I'll be right back, I promise.
20:30Jenny's pelvic exam revealed a second degree perineal tear, and I saw umbilical cord coming from her cervix.
20:37I felt like something was off with her demeanor, but I wasn't sure if she was in shock or hiding something.
20:42Do you know how far along she was?
20:44Based on the size of the tear in the cord, I suspect close to full term.
20:47So, where's the baby now?
20:57And she won't tell you what she did with the baby?
20:59She won't even admit there was a baby.
21:01Well, if she delivered days ago, and left a newborn somewhere, it, it could still be alive.
21:08I'm very much in need of medical attention.
21:10Okay, I don't see any way around it. I have to report this to CPD. We need to find that baby.
21:17Okay, so what do we do with Jenny in the interim?
21:19Antibiotics alone won't clear up the infection, and now she's refusing surgery.
21:23Well, we have to honor her wishes.
21:25But if her condition worsens, and she becomes incapacitated, then the hospital should assume decision-making authority over her medical care.
21:35Agreed. Thank you.
21:36You're welcome.
21:37What I'm thinking right now is that Lucas is suffering from something called prosopometamorphopsia, or PMO for short.
21:45Colloquially known as, believe it or not, demon face syndrome.
21:49Yeah, well, that's certainly accurate.
21:52Yeah, very rare neurological disorder of visual perception.
21:56So this isn't a hallucination.
21:58Exactly.
21:59It's a distortion, which is a very different thing.
22:02Now, for some people, it only occurs with a real live human being, right? Not 2D imagery.
22:08Sure enough, when I showed Lucas a picture of my face, he looked completely normal to him.
22:12So what triggers PMO?
22:14You know, we know so little about it, but I would like to get him an MRI to rule out the most serious known cause, which is traumatic brain injury.
22:22Hmm.
22:23You think something might have happened at his foster home, an injury that wasn't reported?
22:28I sure hope not.
22:29What the hell?
22:31I don't know.
22:32So how the hell did this happen?
22:33Mr. Crowley.
22:34Who?
22:35The spirit haunting this room.
22:36And we're done here.
22:38Hey.
22:39Hi.
22:40I'm on hold with insurance waiting to fight with them over my latest claim.
22:56Hashtag prosthetic problems, am I right?
22:59Your costume for tonight.
23:01Thank you very much.
23:02Hello?
23:03Hello?
23:04Hello?
23:05Yes.
23:06I have my policy number.
23:07It's on my insurance card, which is...
23:10Damn it.
23:11It's at home.
23:12Come on, baby.
23:13We gotta go right now.
23:14I said I could have a snack.
23:16I know.
23:17I could take it to the cafe while you run home.
23:19No, no.
23:20You're working.
23:21Doris will text me if I'm needed.
23:22And then what you do with Amelia.
23:24I will set her up with a coloring book in the doctor's lounge.
23:27Thanks, but she can have a snack at home.
23:30I'm hungry now.
23:32Amelia, we're going.
23:34Now.
23:35No, no.
23:36Don't put me back on hold.
23:37I'm getting the card.
23:38I'll see you tonight.
23:39Yeah.
23:45Oh, Daniel.
23:46Hey.
23:47What's up?
23:48Um, I forgot to wish my dearest friend a happy birthday this morning.
23:52You did?
23:53Maybe, uh, your dearest friend ain't so unhappy you forgot.
23:57Well, happy Halloween birthday, anyway.
24:00Uh, did I see Howie and Franklin wandering around here earlier?
24:06You sure did.
24:07Gifted me a pricey set of golf clubs.
24:09Made me blow out a candle on a damn brand model.
24:12Well, it sounds like they want their old med school pal to join them in retirement.
24:16They're so excited about it all, you know?
24:19I find it depressing.
24:21Yeah, but it could be your glorious third act.
24:24You know, I guess we have to ask ourselves what we want to do with the time we have left.
24:29I clearly have to change my thinking.
24:31You know, I certainly don't want to outlast my useless around here.
24:35Are you kidding?
24:36We're the glue holding this thing together.
24:38Damn right we are.
24:39You're damn right we are.
24:41And you're gonna figure it out and so am I.
24:43I'm taking your word for it.
24:44Okay.
24:45How's your day going?
24:46Uh, I had a rough morning with Bert.
24:50What happened?
24:52Uh, I'll tell you some other time.
24:55You want to grab coffee later?
24:57Yeah.
24:59Hey, uh, Lucas' foster parents are waiting in your office.
25:02On my way right now.
25:04Yeah.
25:05I'm sorry we couldn't get here sooner.
25:08We were up visiting our eldest daughter in Milwaukee.
25:10Well, the good news is no evidence of brain injury or structural abnormalities of any kind on Lucas' scans.
25:17Oh, thank God.
25:18So then what's causing these distortions?
25:20I was kind of hoping that we could figure that out together.
25:23His teacher said that he hasn't been, I don't know, himself recently?
25:28Yeah, he doesn't seem to be sleeping well, right?
25:31He's exhausted in the morning.
25:33And I think he's having some sensitivity to light.
25:36He keeps squinting and covering his eyes, saying his head hurts.
25:40Hmm.
25:41I just chalked it up to a growth spurt.
25:43It's so tough to tell with Lucas, you know, if something's really wrong.
25:46He's such a sweet kid.
25:47He doesn't want to be a bother.
25:48You know, that could be a pediatric migraine.
25:51And those are much less intense than the adult version, but absolutely can be caused by lack of sleep and are a known trigger for PMO.
26:01Will the distortions go away?
26:03Uh, they will.
26:04And that can take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks.
26:08But unfortunately, they're very likely to return, which is why I'd like to refer you to a colleague of mine who is a very skilled neuropsychiatrist, and he can help you put together a treat.
26:18What's wrong?
26:20We'll certainly make the appointment, but, um, well, we don't actually know how much longer we're gonna be in Lucas's life.
26:28Yeah, we got a call from his caseworker, Sheila, last week.
26:31Uh, his biological parents are trying to regain custody.
26:33Well, we're gonna fight it. We've started the process of filing for adoption.
26:37Okay.
26:38You happen to know why Lucas was put in foster care initially?
26:43Both of his parents are addicts.
26:45Yeah, they claim they're sober now, that they're turning their lives around, and, you know, maybe they are, but...
26:49Right, right.
26:52You think there's any chance that Lucas might know, that he might be aware that his biological parent's trying to get him back?
26:58No, no, he doesn't know anything.
27:00We didn't want to scare him unnecessarily.
27:02Okay.
27:03Look, I'm gonna hit the book, see if I can figure out a way to get Lucas a bit of immediate relief.
27:09Okay?
27:10That'd be great.
27:11Thanks.
27:12I didn't, I didn't deliver a baby.
27:14Jenny, Dr. Asher saw the umbilical cord, which means you must have cut it.
27:18Otherwise...
27:19No, I didn't. Please, I just want to leave.
27:21I know you want to leave. I know you're really scared right now, but the...
27:24What's going on?
27:25Oh my god, it's happening.
27:26Let me take a look, okay?
27:27Ah!
27:28Ah!
27:29What's going on? She's starting to hemorrhage.
27:31Okay, Jenny, listen to me. If we don't operate now, you will bleed to death.
27:34I don't want to die.
27:35Okay, then let us take you to surgery. Okay?
27:38Okay.
27:39Call the OI.
27:40Jenny, listen to me. I know that you're afraid of getting in trouble, but the best thing you can do right now is tell the truth.
27:45Where's that baby?
27:46I...
27:47I buried her.
27:51I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry.
28:01He went into V-fib. Crowley's at it again.
28:04Alright, charge at 120.
28:05Charge.
28:06Clear.
28:08Clear.
28:10No pulse. Resuming compression.
28:11Charge.
28:12200 milligram of epi, please.
28:14Clear.
28:17No pulse.
28:18Have you put her own 300 milligrams? Charge 200.
28:21Charged.
28:22Clear.
28:25Back to sinus rhythms.
28:27See?
28:28No such thing as ghosts.
28:30What... what is that?
28:31What happens?
28:32What is that?
28:33What's going on?
28:34I don't know.
28:35Uh, we lost power in here.
28:37Death.
28:39You can't tell me that wasn't...
28:40Uh...
28:42Coincidence.
28:45Ghosts.
28:49See, you know, green tinted glasses help with light sensitivity.
28:52So, ophthalmology had a bunch of these lying around.
28:55But it turns out...
28:57They also help reduce distortions.
29:01Goes by PLO.
29:03Open your eyes, pal.
29:08Hey there.
29:10Not scary looking anymore.
29:12You look just like your picture.
29:14Just a little more handsome, right?
29:16Huh?
29:17You look like Tim and Lisa again.
29:18Well, we are Tim and Lisa.
29:19Yeah.
29:20Honey.
29:21Can I ask you something?
29:22Are you having trouble sleeping?
29:23We won't get mad, okay?
29:24Remember what we always tell you.
29:25If you can't sleep or if you're having bad dreams, you can always come wake us up.
29:38Right.
29:39Lucas, I'm just curious.
29:41I've been wondering if maybe you might have heard Tim and Lisa talking to your caseworker, Sheila,
29:47about possibly going back to live with your mom and dad?
29:52Baby, it's okay if you did. You can tell us.
29:55Yeah.
29:57I heard you crying and I just wanted to see what was wrong.
30:01I know I'm supposed to knock on your door, but...
30:04But what?
30:05I didn't want to because that would be a mistake.
30:10A mistake?
30:11Why would that be a mistake?
30:13Because you're not supposed to bother people when the door is closed.
30:16Who told you that?
30:18Your mom and dad tell you that?
30:22What else did they tell you was a mistake?
30:25I'm not supposed to talk about it.
30:26Lucas, look at me.
30:28You are not going to get in any trouble, buddy.
30:30You are safe here.
30:31Do you understand me?
30:33You won't tell them.
30:35I swear.
30:41Um...
30:44Being too loud.
30:46Cleaning up my toys.
30:49Or sneaking food.
30:50And, um, what would mom and dad do if you made a mistake?
31:00They would scream really bad words at me.
31:05They'd chime in in my bed.
31:07They won't let me have anything to eat.
31:10Oh, baby.
31:11I don't want to go back there.
31:13Don't make me go back there.
31:14It's okay.
31:15No.
31:16I want to stay here.
31:17It's okay.
31:24Hey.
31:25How'd it go?
31:26She was really well.
31:27We were able to remove the percent and stop the bleeding.
31:29Good.
31:30I wanted to let you know we located the baby.
31:32And?
31:33As we expected, she was deceased.
31:35Any signs indicating how the baby died?
31:37Stillborn.
31:38Emmy believes she died in utero weeks ago.
31:40So, what does that mean for Jenny, legally speaking?
31:44Legally, it doesn't take all charges off the table.
31:47That's at the discretion of the ASA, but it does remove the most serious one.
31:51I'm going to come by tomorrow to talk with her again.
31:53That is, if she hasn't lawyered up by then.
31:55Which, honestly, Hannah, I would advise her to do.
31:58Good.
32:08Hey.
32:12Are your throats going to feel a little sore from the tube?
32:16Did...
32:17Did they find her?
32:20Yeah.
32:23I didn't know what to do.
32:26What...
32:28When she came out, she wasn't...
32:32There was no sound.
32:33Okay, Jenny, I just want you to rest, okay?
32:36I tried.
32:38I know CPR.
32:39I-I took a class and I tried, but...
32:42But she wasn't breathing and I could...
32:45I just...
32:47She was stillborn, Jenny.
32:51She had already died in your uterus weeks earlier.
32:54But...
32:56If I had called 911, they could have shocked their heart.
32:59They could have...
33:00No, no, no, no.
33:02There's nothing you could have done.
33:06Nothing.
33:08Can I ask...
33:10Why didn't you ever go see a doctor?
33:13To discuss your options?
33:17I didn't know I was pregnant.
33:20I mean...
33:22Not...
33:23Not for sure.
33:24I...
33:25I never took a pregnancy test.
33:26Why not?
33:29Because...
33:31That would have made it real.
33:44You talked to DCFS?
33:50I did.
33:52Reunification with Lucas' bio parents is being put on hold pending a thorough investigation.
33:57And if that goes away, I think it will.
34:00Kid's gonna have himself a nice new set of parents.
34:02Come on.
34:04You're a real-life superhero.
34:05You-you banished the monsters.
34:08Sure did.
34:09Eight years too late.
34:13Hey.
34:19I thought your shift was over hours ago.
34:21Mmm, it was.
34:23What are you still doing here?
34:25I don't feel like going home yet.
34:27Yeah.
34:29One of those days, huh?
34:32Wanna talk about it?
34:33I don't.
34:34Thanks.
34:35Alright.
34:36Do you, uh...
34:38Wanna come by and help me pass out candy?
34:41You pass out candy?
34:43As opposed to, what?
34:44Bopping for apples?
34:46Turning off all the lights and pretending no one's home.
34:49Yeah.
34:50Miss my yearly opportunity to eat my weight miniature Snickers?
34:53No way.
34:54Okay.
34:55Well, Snickers...
34:56Fine.
34:57I mean, I've just...
34:58I've been super craving chocolate lately.
35:01Must be having a girl you're craving sweets.
35:03Yeah, that's just an old wives' tale.
35:06So, what do you think you're having?
35:08No clue.
35:09Really?
35:10You don't have like a sixth sense or anything like that?
35:12My gosh.
35:13Leanne was positive.
35:14She knew we were having a boy by week six.
35:16Yeah, I really just haven't thought too much about it.
35:21Huh.
35:25What's...
35:27Huh?
35:28I just find it interesting, that's all.
35:31It's just, uh...
35:32Okay, why are you analyzing me?
35:33Oh, Hannah, I'm not analyzing you.
35:35Yes, you are.
35:36Look, if you wanna find out the sex so bad, go ahead and do it.
35:38We don't need to make every decision together.
35:40Oh, hey, please, I'm not trying to...
35:41Look, I'm just gonna go home.
35:42I feel like we could use a little space.
36:01Do you share some of your candy with me?
36:03Yeah.
36:04Yeah?
36:05The lights are really nice.
36:06Mmm.
36:07I like your costume.
36:08Wanna go with us?
36:09Can I, Mom?
36:10Oh, don't you wanna stay with us, honey?
36:11Then I'll go with them, please.
36:13Uh, okay.
36:15But you need to stay where I can see you at all times.
36:19If you can't see me, you've gone too far.
36:21Okay.
36:23Come on!
36:25Not too fast, Amelia.
36:26Slow down.
36:27You should be fine.
36:30I'm not exactly running yet, and Amelia moves fast.
36:33Well, I got eyes on her.
36:35I have to see her.
36:41You don't trust me.
36:42You don't trust me?
36:43No.
36:44I don't trust me.
36:49I swear I wasn't always such a helicopter parent.
36:52Then my daughter fell down a literal well, and now...
36:58I never wanna let her out of my sight.
37:00I'm afraid if I look away for even a second, the ground will swallow her up again.
37:10That's what it looked like when she fell.
37:12I couldn't see the well at first.
37:13It was too dark.
37:15It looked like the Earth just suddenly swallowed her whole.
37:23I can't imagine anything more terrifying.
37:27And obviously, this relieves only, at most, 0.0001% of the crushing responsibility you must feel at all times.
37:39Just so you know, whenever I'm around, I got eyes on her too.
37:44I'm not gonna let anything happen to me.
37:49I know.
37:51I know you won't.
38:00Where is she, though?
38:02She's right there.
38:05Thank goodness.
38:06Come on.
38:08Hey, Kip, I'm sorry, but I'm just not gonna make it tonight.
38:10It's been a long day, and I'm beat, so tell Gemma that I'm looking forward to meeting her another time, okay?
38:15Tell her yourself.
38:17What are you doing here?
38:18I knew you'd bail, so I came here to personally escort you.
38:21Kip, you can't just...
38:22No, no, no, no, Kip, anything, okay? You're coming.
38:25Katie, I am in love.
38:27For the first time in my life, I am buying paper towels and toilet paper in bulk.
38:31That's Gemma's doing.
38:32I'm thinking and planning ahead because I actually see a future with this woman.
38:40You do seem different.
38:43Grown-up job, grown-up relationship.
38:45Mm-hmm, that's the Gemma effect.
38:47And I suppose figuring out that I'm not hurling towards a early death doesn't hurt either.
38:52Although I see that it's had the opposite effect on you.
38:55I mean, having one-night stands with the Quick Eats guy, it's not really your style.
38:59Yeah, well, you don't really know anything about my style.
39:02I think that we both know each other better than we'd like to admit.
39:07I'm really happy for you.
39:09Then rally and come to the bar for an hour.
39:13Fine, alright. Let's go to the bar and meet your future first wife.
39:19And if you do want Mom's ring to propose...
39:22Forget about that.
39:24I think that was a tad premature.
39:26I don't want to creep Gemma out by proposing two months in.
39:30True. You should let your action figure collection do that for you.
39:34Besides, you should keep the ring for when you get married.
39:39That's what Mom would have wanted.
39:41Thank you, Aunt Banana. You are such a lifesaver.
39:47I just feel so much better having somebody in the house, you know?
39:50Everything in the fridge is yours except, of course, my mu-mu guy pan.
39:54That's right, baby. No mu-gu for you-gu.
39:57Alright. I'll call you from Miami. Love ya.
40:00Have fun at that conference.
40:02Oh, I can't wait.
40:04Oh, wait. Hold on.
40:05This is a call from Bert's facility.
40:11This is Sharon Goodwin.
40:14Tameka?
40:17What?
40:19Is he okay?
40:22Well, did you call the paramedics?
40:25Alright, I'm on my way. I'll see you shortly.
40:28What happened?
40:30I don't exactly know. Bert had a fall.
40:32I gotta go.
40:33Should I come? It sounds serious.
40:35Oh, no. Your flight.
40:36Daniel, please don't change your plans.
40:38Let me see what's going on and I'll keep you posted.
40:40Okay. Yeah.
40:41You promise?
40:42I promise.
40:45I heard him fall.
40:46I don't know if he tripped over something.
40:48Did he hit his head?
40:49I think so.
40:50There's a gash in the back.
40:51And he was already unconscious when you got to him?
40:54No, no.
40:55He was still opening his eyes at first and then he stopped.
41:03I don't know him.
41:04That's okay.
41:05I didn't pass away at first.
41:06I'll see you soon.
41:07I'll see you soon.
41:08Not do you soon.
41:09Goodbye, honey.
41:10You're forever again.
41:11I'm so sure I can't.
41:12This is a dream of my life.
41:13You're a girl who's torn me off.
41:15I'm so sorry.
41:16This is a dream of my life.
41:18I'm so sorry.
41:20I'm so sorry.
41:21I'm so sorry.
