01:37We are standing amongst one of the most comprehensive collections

01:43Over 15,000 shoe artifacts and indigenous belongings
01:47are preserved right here under one roof,
01:50including a few pairs designed by yours truly.

01:57It really says a lot about somebody
01:59from what they're wearing on their feet.
02:01It's fitting we're here because for this week's challenge,
02:04shoes will serve as your inspiration.
02:08Each of you will design a high fashion look
02:11inspired by one of these distinct shoe styles.
02:15Your designs should not only complement this fabulous footwear,
02:19but tell the story of the person you envision wearing it.
02:22Those red thigh high boots are like, please do not give me those.
02:27The judges are going to be looking for some serious creativity this week.

04:22I feel that everybody picked the shoe that is instinctive to them.
04:26I actually don't know too much about the black and white saddle shoe.
04:30I just really like it,
04:31and I think it would be smart to show the judges something new.
04:34I'm really going to tap into, like, my drag references.
04:38This boot just means a lot for the drag community that I know.
04:42I've sewn for so many queens in Toronto, it's insane.
04:46So I just think that this, like, strong, feminine checkerboard print look
04:51could just be so cool on the runway.
04:53I'm trying to do something that is creative
04:56and still has ties to the drag community.
04:59Like, I feel like I should be doing it for my dolls, you know?

05:03I'm thinking I'm going to go pirate.

05:10I decide to take the shipwrecked approach with this look
05:13because the shoe is Victorian,
05:15which leads you to think corsetry and lace
05:18and all of the things I've already done.
05:20But if I can take us back out onto the sea
05:22and do something that feels more fun,
05:24I might catch the judges off guard.
05:26So I'm going to do a wide leg pair of culottes
05:29with a matching taffeta vest,
05:31some off-the-shoulder deconstructed puff sleeves
05:33and a long train in the back.
05:35I'm excited for this.
05:37I don't know what I have to do to impress the judges this week.
05:40Two of my favorite looks I've done so far had me in the bottom.

05:45But I'm just trying to really let these shoes speak to me.

05:52So I'm referencing that classic mod silhouette of that A-line mini dress.
05:57And I really want the look to reference all of the lines happening on the shoes.

28:30Welcome back to The Runway!
28:32This week, you were asked to create a look inspired by a distinct shoe style.
28:37A look that doesn't just match the shoe, but tells a story of its unique identity.
28:42identity and you all dove in feet first but just like a pair of flip-flops in
28:49this competition you can be in one day and out the next please welcome your
28:55judges fashion designer Spencer Badu fashion journalist Jeannie Becker hi
29:03designers you all look so wonderful and meet the NFL's first ever fashion editor
29:09stylist Kyle Smith hi designers Kyle Smith is here fingers crossed he likes my look
29:18let's get this show started
29:27this might be one of my favorite looks I've made during this competition the fit is correct the
29:34shoes are shining and the cherry on top a gorgeous train flowing from the back just like the waves
29:41of the high high seas oh my model is stomping the runway and just serving it I'm so proud of this
29:51look it takes that period inspiration but it brings it to all the things that I love I'm really glad I
29:57pivoted to the o-rings I just love that clean circular shape and I think it just worked so well
30:02for the look I feel pretty confident in the design this garment is built from the pair of shoes and
30:12that was a challenge the vest definitely is catching my eye but I just want her to take it off so they
30:18can see the back it has that iridescent thing going on so when the lights are hitting it it is hitting it in
30:24the right places I want to show the judges tailoring and something that is adventurous and exciting though
30:33of course there's the red showing on the shoulders and I am so glad I made the skirt shorter my outfit
30:40really exists in the realm of the shoe now that is high fashion this looks a mix of an operate side and a
30:50countryside girl I really worked on those ruffles to be perfect and to blend in together and to fit in
30:59the color palette I love it this to me gives a bit of high fashion you know and I see the drag that I
31:08wanted to bring to it I love the skirt I love the course that I love the feathers it's really can't be
31:16me and me everything on it's super primo for me the shoe here is the star I know women who would die to
31:28wear this trousers are really unexpected in this look just wanted to flex my couture muscle and I just
31:36just wanted to show my skill here I feel like I deserve to win

31:52some of you knocked our socks off in this challenge but unfortunately it may be time for the other shoe to drop

32:11you two are in congratulations you can leave the runway thank you thank you
32:20congratulations guy oh we're in back to the couch
32:29I'm just confused because I honestly thought you'd be in the top I thought you'd be in the top but safe
32:34is just as sexy to me I'm kind of gobsmacked I poured my heart into that piece and for me to
32:41be safe is really strange the five of you make up tonight's highest and lowest scores but only one of
32:49you can be the winner let's start with one of our favorite looks of the night
32:58Foster I'm really impressed with this look you let the shoe start the sentence but you finished it off
33:05with the outfit I picked this shoe because I wanted it to push me outside of my comfort zone I wanted it
33:10to be different I really love it I love the juxtaposition of the structured jacket and the flowy skirt I think
33:16there's something very poetic about it the draping of the skirt is gorgeous and it really shows off the
33:21shoes which was this week's challenge for me the cherry on top was the little piece of red and the
33:26little slits on the shoulders that's a very ambitious thing to create a jacket of that nature and you're
33:33really pushing yourself and we all really appreciate that we're really proud of you Foster good job thank
33:39you so much now let's bring out one of our least favorite looks of the night and start putting my
33:44hands out had your hand out ready there round I wish there was no best as you made her take it off
33:55right now I'm curious why you didn't make her take it off before it cheapens that look I liked the best
34:02the silhouette was the only cool thing when I saw the back I said oh you incorporated the shoes you
34:08understood the point of this challenge but it was hidden it was hidden behind the vest I didn't see
34:13enough imagination in the look and I know that you're really capable of that I thought it was
34:18rather lackluster I think my biggest issue was the pants with the hem of the bell bottom you had the
34:25best shoes of them all I love those shoes but we really don't even know what that shoe really looks
34:31like to get this idea out makes sense let's bring out the next look which also received one of the
34:37lowest scores damn when I saw this come down I was getting maybe comic book character one of the
34:46criterias of this challenge was to make it feel high fashion when I got the like thigh high red hologram
34:53boot to me that like represents my community these boots are costume boots I get a little bit of
35:01what you're doing however taste wise to us it was a little cheap I felt like Santa's helper on top
35:08just or in the middle and then the most gorgeous shoes I've ever seen on the bottom these boots maybe
35:14Leland you're good under a little pressure and a little bit of constraints the denim challenge and
35:20the bathroom tissue challenge those for your best looks I think this one's more costuming for me
35:26right let's bring out our next favorite look of the night well this look made my heart sing I'm a child
35:39of the 60s I mean this is my era absolutely loved it I saw these gorgeous 60s boots and what came to
35:47mind was bringing in a bit more deconstruction and edginess you turn about house and he made a
35:52badass you know I really love this look I think the panels are very cool I think it brings in the
35:57lines but I think we need some color but storytelling check and execution check this last design received one
36:09of the lowest scores so I got to pick cowboy boots I really wanted to add to do a pair of chaps to make
36:23it a little bit more chic I don't even know it was a boot in every look there's been a little bit of a
36:29cowgirl and I think in this case the pan is consuming the look it's very beautifully constructed I think if you
36:37just cut away some of the frills actually could be quite nice less certainly could have been more
36:43thank you cat thank you designers we have some very tough decisions to make you can leave the runway thank
36:54you thank you that was crazy that was wild super wild it's nice to have them say something nice for
37:04once I really had no idea how it was gonna go so just a huge relief right judges who do we think should
37:10win this week I loved Foster I think if you could do a classic look and add your spin to it that's real
37:18talent I love the little peekaboo red you know it's it's elegant it's minimal it had a Foster's
37:23handwriting all over it but there's no secret that I adore 60s fashion and I thought Maya's take on it
37:33was pretty fabulous those are some great details too it's the hardware we really saw what Maya had
37:38to offer I love how she was able to take a concept and push it in like a bit of a punk direction let's move
37:46on to who should be going home I did not like this Leland look it was shockingly bad that was
37:54costumed to the max yeah again something that we have encouraged Leland did he forget steer away
38:00from let's not forget cat did you know those were boots didn't even see the boots at all it was a kind
38:05of a turn off for me I think we could have done away with all the chiffon layers and frills it would have
38:12been so lovely if it was just that body suit I just don't understand the thought process there what
38:19about Rome did not need the jacket where is something more awe-inspiring it certainly wasn't
38:25fashion-forward except for the detailing on the back of the top okay that was the one strong point of that
38:32it all right I think we've made our decisions let's bring the designers back out Maya yes Foster we
38:47were impressed by the way you both paid homage to your footwear the winning look tonight was cohesive
38:53concise and felt high fashion the winner of this challenge is Foster oh my god what I won that is
39:09wild because you put your best foot forward in this challenge TD is stepping up with a $5,000 cash prize
39:17thank you so much it means the world to me I've been working hard to show you that I'm able to do it I'm so
39:24grateful the last few weeks I've been just fighting to get my courage and confidence back like this boy
39:31from a small town in Zimbabwe is a winner on project runway Canada and I'm here living the dream it's
39:38incredible Maya you are also in thank you you can both leave the runway
39:55Rome Leland cat your designs left us asking where's the high fashion which in this challenge
40:07was a huge misstep Leland you are in you can leave the runway thank you so much I'm gonna go cry my
40:18eyeballs out thank you thank you I love you guys so much this was an incredibly difficult decision to
40:27make we know you're both talented but at this point in the competition the bar is high and
40:35and both of your looks fell short I'm so sorry but you're both out
40:43both of us I wasn't ready for that I'm feeling devastated but even for the look tonight
40:55there's still no regrets thank you both so much can't wait to see what you guys do next

41:58but this competition it's really harder than you think I just love creating and I know
42:06Maison Prefontaine is gonna go big my goal coming in was to prove to myself that this is something
42:16that I can do I have grown a lot and I want the world to know that I'm an amazing designer
42:22next time on project runway Canada each of you will design a high fashion fit that roars couture
42:31on a budget you may have to axe the dress oh is there a world where we cut it scandalously low
