00:11In a media release, the Ministry of Culture said the event is a new carnival initiative
00:16aimed at showcasing local cuisine while creating economic opportunities for small business owners.
00:23However, the minister has strongly condemned attempts, as she said,
00:27to disrupt the opening of the John Cupid Carnival Village on Friday night,
00:32insisting that politics has no place in Central.
00:36Minister Benjamin described the behavior as unacceptable, saying, and we quote here,
00:43politics has no place in our culture. This type of behavior is unacceptable.
00:48She said members of the opposition allowed a handful of PNM supporters
00:52with a specific intent to cause this disruption.
00:55She said, if this is their intention during the carnival season, it will not be tolerated.
01:01Quoting further, she said, understandably, every political party has their base
01:06and Port of Spain is part of the oppositions.
01:09However, this government and our stakeholders are here to promote and support culture,
01:15to create economic opportunities, and to bring improved initiatives for all.
01:20She said, Carnival 2026 is here, it is happening, and we will not be deterred, end quote.
