Rita Bartos

Rita Viktoria Martha Bartos was born in Vienna on 25 May 1925 and trained at the Vienna State Academy of Music. She debuted as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte at the Klagenfurt City Theatre in 1953, later performing at Münster and Cologne, including premieres of Hermann Reutter’s The Widow of Ephesus (1954) and Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites (1957). From 1961 to 1967, she was a regular at the Bayreuth Festival, singing the Flower Girl in Parsifal each year, and she toured in Florence, Naples, and Brussels. Bartos recorded extensively for Polydor in the 1950s and 1960s, singing the role of the soubrette in Eine Nacht in Venedig, Die Rose von Stambul, and Viktoria und ihr Husar. Bartos died in Vienna on 13 December 1985.
