Finding information is no longer the obstacle it once was for many project managers. The more difficult challenge is determining which information matters, what it means, and what should be done with it.
What makes a successful project manager? Certification, understanding technology, using AI? All are important, but there are three things in particular they can do to reinforce their facilitative and human leadership skills.

We start the new decade with a bang as we present the 13th edition of our annual virtual conference and exhibition! Whether you’re a seasoned PM or new to the field, PMXPO provides an excellent opportunity to learn, network, earn PDUs and broaden your perspective on project management. This year’s show is headlined by keynote speaker Cara Brookins, a bestselling author who rebuilt her broken family by building her own house watching “how-to” videos on YouTube.
Join us for PMI Business Analysis Virtual Conference 2019! This virtual event will explore the latest trends in business analysis and provide you with the insights, resources, and tools to advance your career and enhance project success.
The PMI Talent & Technology Symposium 2019 explores the impact of rapidly changing technologies on the project management profession across industries. Participants will gain an understanding of how to better position themselves for growth and to identify talent for their project teams.
In healthcare, AI adoption cannot be treated as a simple technology rollout. It must be governed responsibly because project teams are often working with sensitive data, regulated workflows, complex stakeholder groups, clinical or operational risk, and high expectations for trust, transparency, and compliance.
The message of the webinar is that ethical memory is essential for modern Agile and project‑delivery professionals, especially when acknowledging the origins of the practices they use daily. The deck emphasizes that commercial failure is not the same as irrelevance, noting that “Agile practices we use every day…did not spring from nowhere in 2001,” and that ethical storytelling requires crediting pioneers whose ideas shaped today’s frameworks even if their ventures did not succeed commercially.
High-risk projects rarely fail because leaders lack intelligence, experience, or data. They fail because critical information becomes distorted as it moves through organizations under pressure. Schedule urgency, optimism bias, authority gradients, and reputational concerns create what I call delivery noise: the gradual distortion of decision-relevant information before it reaches decision-makers.
Explore PMI-sponsored research and practical approaches for leveraging team diversity to strengthen collaboration, adaptability, and project performance.
UPDATED TEMPLATE! The project management roles and responsibilities template is designed to consider the project management support that is required in managing and supporting a project. The template reflects the role and contributions of the project manager, as well as Project Management Office (PMO) and methodology support roles, where those exist.
If you have friction in your sponsor relationships, there are guidelines you should consider—and then decide where you and your sponsor have the most room to improve. To help, check out this assessment template to identify areas to improve the sponsor/PM partnership health. Use in conjunction with the article 12 Guidelines to Build a Sustainable Sponsor/PM Partnership.
The purpose of this tool is to conduct a self-introspection on attributes that are essential for a PMO leadership role. Self-identify your current level of the listed key PMO leadership attributes, completing the "Current," "Aspirations" and "Prioritization" columns. Use in conjunction with the upcoming on-demand webinar Evolution of a PMO Leader - Lessons from Matthew McConaughey.

When driving clarity decisions, are you clear on who gets a vote, and who doesn’t need to be in the room? If you have a reputation for cutting through the ambiguity noise, you might be like Diane the Driver.
Projects often stall because decisions take time, not because work can’t progress. If we can make pending decisions visible, we can focus on getting them made—and that should reduce the waiting.
Your past experiences help you manage your next project. But should it be that way? Or should we spend a little more time looking forward, adapting to a changing world and seeking out new and different ways of working?
There's always something new right around the corner. But what if the next great way of working is just a rebranding of an existing framework? What if the latest and greatest is simply the ability to continuously adapt to needs?
Experienced project managers continue learning new methodologies, but they stop treating them as competing philosophies. Instead, they begin collecting useful ideas and select the practices that made the most sense for the project in front of them.
How can you give leaders enough confidence to make the decision to proceed with a project? One of the shortest lines in 'Top Gun: Maverick' represents something every project manager should recognize.
Youth leadership showed this student that leading is not always loud, perfect or fully planned. Valuable lessons came from school projects, student groups, volunteering, doing research, and being part of professional communities.
Overload is not a personal productivity problem. It is a portfolio design failure—and it shows up in the data long before it shows up in your people. Busy is not a symptom of ambition. It is a symptom of unmade decisions.
Managing a project and trekking the Himalayas share more than just steep learning curves. From risk mitigation at 15,000 feet to the “agile” necessity of a weather window, learn how PM principles ensure you do not just reach the summit, but make it back home.
When uncertainty rises, even the most capable leaders abandon the simple, foundational behaviors that normally make them effective. This practitioner learned three valuable lessons during his military service.
