Police make emergency declaration after man shot with homemade gun at Tallebudgera Valley

Police have established a crime scene following a shooting on the gold coast.

00:00Around lunchtime, police were called to an isolated property on Ryans Road in the foothills

00:07of the Gold Coast hinterland, not far from Springbrook National Park, to report that

00:11a man had been shot in the head with a homemade pipe gun.

00:15Detectives have set up a crime scene and heavily armed tactical police are now looking for

00:19the shooter in nearby bushland.

00:22The victim, who neighbours tell me, was a man in his late 50s, lived at the property

00:26with his wife, daughter and infant granddaughter.

00:29He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital, thankfully with only minor injuries

00:34to his head and shoulder that are not believed to be life-threatening.

00:37A short time ago, police made an emergency declaration, setting up an exclusion zone.

00:42They have blocked off streets and have been circling low in the helicopter as they search.

00:47The public has been told to avoid the area and neighbouring residents have been asked

00:50to stay inside their homes.

00:52We are told police will be providing an update to media on the scene here shortly and will
