00:00What do you think this is? Why are we at an airport?
00:07I know. This is so crazy.
00:09Hey!
00:10Quite the runway, eh?
00:12I know.
00:13I'm not nervous.
00:14Yeah, me too.
00:15Hello, Timothy. Nice to meet you.
00:16Nice to meet you.
00:17What the hell did we get ourselves into?
00:19Are we jumping out of airplanes?
00:22I mean, I'll do anything for the project my way, but...
00:26You have a front row seat.
00:28For fashion's greatest show.
00:30This is Project Runway.
00:32Hi!
00:33Hi, everybody.
00:34Hi.
00:35Welcome to the runway.
00:37Project Runway Season 12.
00:40Different kind of runway.
00:42Different kind of runway.
00:44Designers, welcome.
00:45We're thrilled to have you here.
00:46And, Heidi, I was part of most of the auditions,
00:48and I can say firsthand that this is an incredibly talented group.
00:52Well, I'm very excited to see what all of you can do.
00:55But before we go any further,
00:57only 15 of our 16 designers are here.
01:02And designers, as I'm sure you know,
01:04we asked the Project Runway fans
01:06to choose one former designer to return to the competition.
01:09They were asked to choose among Kate from Season 11,
01:13Valerie from Season 8,
01:15and Ramon from Season 6.
01:17And I think that designer is arriving.
01:21You!
01:22It's Kate from Season 11.
01:27I'm back.
01:31Woo!
01:32Yes!
01:33Like, I voted for you.
01:35Hi, Kate.
01:36Hi, guys.
01:37I was eliminated on Season 11.
01:39I'm a genuinely nice person, but...
01:43If you take the sleeve off, it'll, like, sex it up.
01:45I don't give a what they have to say.
01:46I'm just feeling so worried.
01:48I don't care if you're worried.
01:49Keep it to yourself.
01:50You want to do a short?
01:52There's only room for one cook in this kitchen,
01:54and that's me.
01:55I don't know why they even brought her back.
01:58Kate should go home.
01:59You guys think she has an advantage
02:00because she's been here before?
02:02Yes.
02:03You know, even I will acknowledge that.
02:05I will say this, though.
02:06After the first two to three challenges,
02:10no more advantage.
02:11And I feel like you guys are going to expect a lot
02:13from me getting a second chance.
02:14It's true.
02:16Also, you may have noticed
02:17that we have an interpreter with us.
02:19She's here to help communicate
02:20to one of our designers.
02:21When I first meet people,
02:23do they think I'm from a foreign country or something?
02:25No, no, wrong.
02:26I'm deaf.
02:27Okay, now that you're all here,
02:29we have some pretty big news for you.
02:32The winner of Project Runway Season 12
02:34will take home a prize package
02:36worth over half a million dollars.
02:39Wow.
02:40What?
02:41I am totally blown away.
02:43It is the biggest prize in the history of the show.
02:46I just cannot comprehend that
02:48because, like, 20 bucks is a lot to me.
02:51We want you all to go into this competition
02:52confident, creative, and ready to wow us all.
02:56And I think we could say, quite literally,
02:59the sky's the limit.
03:00Yes, Heidi?
03:01Yes.
03:02All of a sudden,
03:10they just start dropping toy army figures,
03:12and then all of a sudden they start moving,
03:14and then I'm like,
03:15oh my gosh,
03:15there are puppies falling from those guys.
03:17Oh my gosh.
03:18Yay!
03:19Yay!
03:20Woo!
03:20Woo!
03:21Woo!
03:21Woo!
03:22Woo!
03:22Woo!
03:23Woo!
03:23Woo!
03:24Woo!
03:24Woo!
03:25Woo!
03:25Woo!
03:26Woo!
03:27Woo!
03:27Woo!
03:28Woo!
03:29Woo!
03:30Freaked me out a little bit.
03:31There was some...
03:32These skydivers have graciously delivered your materials
03:35for your first challenge.
03:37You will be showing the judges your point of view as a designer
03:40using parachutes as your material.
03:42On the count of three,
03:43you will run and grab your parachute.
03:46Are you ready?
03:47Yes.
03:48One, two, three, go!
03:52Yeah, it's a little bit embarrassing.
03:55All right, you have your materials.
03:56I will meet you at the end of the day.
03:58You have the first challenge.
03:59You have the first challenge.
04:00You have the judges.
04:01You have the first challenge.
04:02You will be showing the judges your point of view as a designer,
04:04for real.
04:05I will meet you at Parsons.
04:06And I will see you on our runway, the fashion runway.
04:11Are we here?
04:12I think we're here.
04:17It's a dream.
04:18It's so surreal.
04:19We're here.
04:20This is it.
04:21Oh, God.
04:22I was in New York for 18 years.
04:23I was a professional dancer.
04:25Let's talk about dance.
04:26Modern.
04:27I was a principal dancer with the Mark Morris Dance Group
04:29for 10 years.
04:31I think what I bring to fashion from dance
04:34is the sense that good isn't good enough.
04:38It's got to be great.
04:39I was in the Army for eight years.
04:41For what?
04:42I was a mechanic.
04:43You're actually Rosie the Riveter?
04:44I actually am.
04:46Hi, everybody.
04:47Hi, too.
04:48I'm going to welcome you to your work room
04:50at Parsons, the new School for Design.
04:52And on the other side of this wall is the brother sewing room.
04:56And I'm very pleased to introduce our new accessories partner,
04:59Belk Department Stores.
05:01Belk epitomizes the modern southern woman.
05:04Now, you all know how important technology is
05:08to the entire creative process.
05:10So we are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with HP and Intel.
05:15You each have an HP Split X2, HP's latest two-in-one detachable PC,
05:22which allows you to go from a notebook to a tablet
05:26by simply detaching the screen.
05:28You can use this brand-new next-generation technology wherever you are.
05:33Now, we're doing something new this season
05:36when it comes to your challenge budgets.
05:39You are going to manage your own spending for the entire season.
05:47And you're going to be doing this using your new GoBank account.
05:52And you each have a GoBank debit card.
05:55And this is what you will use when we go shopping.
05:58So you are in charge of your finances.
06:01All right.
06:02Let's talk about this challenge.
06:05You each have your parachute.
06:07This is really the core of your challenge.
06:10We're not going shopping, but we have other materials to enhance this.
06:14Your parachute is still the primary source of your fabric.
06:17Now, you have until 11 o'clock tonight.
06:26And you have all day tomorrow.
06:28When you leave the workroom tonight at 11,
06:34you will be checked into your rooms at Refinery Hotel.
06:37And that will be your home for the duration of the season.
06:40All right, everyone.
06:41Have fun.
06:42Okay?
06:43Take care.
06:44I want this to tear.
06:49I started sketching a sporty, bright-colored trench coat.
06:54I want there to be some air that lifts it to have some panels and pleating that feel similar to the way the parachute felt.
07:04I don't think I can sketch at all for this one.
07:07I have to work with the fabric.
07:08I have to see what it does.
07:10Does anybody want to resource water?
07:13Yes.
07:14Good.
07:15Go to the kitchen.
07:17I moved from Russia to USA to be a fashion designer.
07:22My philosophy, it's not just pretty cocktail dress.
07:26Some history, some story have to be in every each piece.
07:32I think I can be a winner.
07:33I feel I have a good potential.
07:35This was f***ing not humble, right, to say?
07:41Good potential.
07:42Coming up on Project Runway.
07:44So why do you think you're going to be a winner of this challenge?
07:46Sandro is an idiot.
07:48This is one of the things we told you not to do.
07:57I identify as a sustainability-focused fiber artist.
08:01All of my processes are deep in thought about the environmental impact.
08:07I'm immediately thinking paratrooper in World War II.
08:09I'm going to create a piece that tells a much deeper conceptual story.
08:14I speak a little bit of sign language.
08:16I want to practice.
08:17Wait, okay, wait.
08:18My name is Kate.
08:20Did I do it okay?
08:21You got it.
08:22You're going to have to teach me more.
08:23So I went to school for architecture at North Carolina State University.
08:28To me, fashion is the same thing as architecture.
08:31It's a different material.
08:33Being here on Project Runway, I'm sure there will be a lot of big personalities.
08:39I'm not nervous about that at all.
08:41Because if they get on my nose, all I have to do is turn this off.
08:51Okay, first pleat.
08:53First out of 3,000.
08:54My process for this challenge is a pleating technique that will sculpt the material hopefully
08:59in the way that I want.
09:00It might get a total disaster.
09:02I would like to do about six feet of pleating, and I've done six inches in how much time?
09:09Sorry, guys.
09:10It's 11 o'clock.
09:11Time to go.
09:12Wow.
09:13I better turn it up a notch.
09:22We're running late.
09:23Here we go.
09:24Coming.
09:32Oh, it's a mess.
09:33Yay.
09:34Jeremy has the cutest picture of his family.
09:37Aww.
09:38Oh my god.
09:39How many kids do you have?
09:40Two.
09:41Coming on Project Runway, I've had to leave behind my husband, my two children.
09:46I'm really trying to do my best on the show to win for my kids.
09:49I did children's wear once.
09:50It's a nightmare.
09:51I nearly done, huh?
09:52I think I want to win.
09:53I'd love to win tomorrow.
09:54That'd be so cool.
09:55So why do you think you're going to be a winner of this challenge?
09:56What's up there?
09:57She's proud of what she's doing.
09:58It's not humble to say in front of, I'd be a winner.
09:59I think Sandro is an idiot.
10:00I think the guy doesn't shut up and his big mouth is just a shield for his insecurity.
10:05Let's do cheers.
10:06When you drink, what do you say?
10:07Na zdrowie.
10:08Na zdrowie.
10:09Na zdrowie.
10:10Na zdrowie.
10:11Na zdrowie.
10:12Na zdrowie.
10:13Na zdrowie.
10:14Na zdrowie.
10:16Na zdrowie.
10:17That's American New Jersey.
10:18That's not New Jersey.
10:19Okay.
10:20is just a shield for his insecurity let's do cheers when you drink what do you say that's
10:25that oh yeah that's American New Jersey thing that's right I don't think that the front of
10:38my dress is particularly dramatic so I'm burning the texture of it to create something that's much
10:44more aesthetically pleasing to look at has the room been this quiet all day or is this just
10:54anticipation of me Alexandria hi I'm playing with with strong pattern making skills I guess good so
11:03I like your color blocking I was one me over already this is what the texture of the front
11:09will look like when it's done how did you get this effect that's just with a lighter are you serious
11:14it's beautiful thank you I'm doing a whole conceptual performance piece I actually want the model to be
11:22bound on one wrist and the other the binding will actually pull her down the runway my instinct is
11:28to want to just go barefoot ever go barefoot okay cool how are you I'm good Miranda how are you talk
11:34to me about it I'm really good at two-piece tops and skirts mm-hmm so I thought maybe I would explore
11:41that this is the supplemental fabric it is this is 85 percent black I just don't want you to go before
11:51the judges with a smart stylish design and have them say this is one of the things we told you not to do
11:58I feel really strong about my design but of course I don't want to get kicked off
12:08hey Helen talk to me I was really disappointed with my colors is this out of the white fabric yes but
12:17you heard what I said the parachute which was to be the core of your presentations gone away and basically
12:23you've said I'm stubborn I want this and this is how it's gonna be hi Sue how are you since about an
12:30hour hour and a half now I have hope where before I had maybe 1% of hope why what was going on I
12:36realized it wasn't doing at all what I wanted it to do and I was also messing up because as soon as I
12:40did a pleat that looked good I didn't notice that the other side was getting caught up in the back but
12:45instead of fighting like I usually do I thought why don't I just throw it back on the mannequin let it
12:50speak to me it's a knockout really thank you all right designers your models will be coming in
12:56shortly for a fitting and you have until 11 o'clock tonight have a good rest of the evening and I'll
13:01see you tomorrow for our first runway show yay
13:07that was like a huge confidence boost though just having like the model fitting right it feels a
13:24bajillion times better I'm really curious to see the runway show tomorrow there's a lot of really cool
13:31pieces but I think it'll definitely show which designers have something to say about fashion
13:36and which designers have nothing to say at all we have to go good morning designers how is everyone
13:55your models will be coming in soon so you will be sending them to the L'Oreal Paris hair and makeup
14:01room and you all know to use the Belk accessory wall very thoughtfully and I will see you later it's our
14:08first runway yes
14:14is that too tight on you no no one's really good sorry I'm digging in your butt but it's for your
14:23own good you know this is a story about war and then out of the walk comes the snap boom snap past it
14:30something else is pulling you snap snap yes I don't want to pull you but I just I mean you're
14:37you're getting yanked you know I mean that that loss of this Timothy yeah what are you and Natasia doing
14:44um we're just working on the choreograph choreography for the runway okay each model has the same amount
14:49of time so whatever Natasia does on that runway sure can't be longer than that okay how long are you
14:55to be in here rehearsing um not long okay all right okay carry on thank you do you think I should just walk
15:04normally um no I want a ponytail that's lower so it sleeps back because she's gonna take the coat on and
15:17off okay image is strong modern edgy sexy okay so I think it would be really cool if I use the beach
15:23where it's gonna be like a really cool matte texture oh nice all right basically I'm going
15:30for this resort kind of fun summery look how about a beautiful pop of color on the lip fiery veil yeah
15:36I like that gorgeous I like it awesome thank you thank you and I work with the sustainability focus okay
15:43so anything that's plugged in can't be used on her hair and then none of the product will be able to be
15:49used in her hair so basically I'm just working with bobby pinning and braiding okay so give it a
15:55kind of this mohawk feeling braid going towards the back awesome thank you so much I'm totally fine with no
16:01makeup okay luckily you're so beautiful right yeah that's that there is not a problem awesome we'll see in a bit
16:13it's very cool to be an eco-conscious designer it's just I'm not sure he's going about it in the right
16:20way
16:21can you drop the skirt something happened today and I no longer just want to be safe slash it slash it
16:32great I want to win this challenge designers and models are you ready for our first runway
16:38presentation let's go everyone done coming up on project runway I do have to say I have a huge
16:47problem I don't think you gave it enough thought it's a disaster the teacher in me would give her an app
16:59hi everybody welcome to the runway the real runway this time for this first challenge skydivers fell
17:07from the cloud to deliver your unconventional material this season we have the biggest price
17:13package in the history of project runway the winner of project runway will receive 150 thousand dollars
17:20provided by go bank the award-winning new bank account made to be used on a mobile phone fifty

17:38retreat for two to the exotic Maldives courtesy of resource water the opportunity to create a capsule
17:44collection with Belk a complete sewing studio from brother sewing and embroidery a fashion spread in
17:50Marie Claire magazine a 2014 Lexus is 350 a 100,000 dollar fabric allowance from tight pods to inspire
17:58fashions that truly pop and a fifty thousand dollar styling contract with L'Oreal Paris it is a price package
18:04worth over half a million dollars the model paired with the winner of project runway will receive a fashion
18:11spread in Marie Claire magazine and twenty five thousand dollars from L'Oreal Paris all right let's meet the judges
18:16first we have acclaimed fashion designer Zach Posen hi creative director for Marie Claire magazine Nina
18:24Garcia welcome designers actress Kate Bosworth hi guys this season we're very excited because we're
18:33going to welcome Tim Gunn to the runway show I've always been here but I'm no longer invisible he won't
18:40be judging you because he's your mentor that said we have decided to give him what we call the
18:46Tim Gunn rescue so here's how it works if at some point during the competition he disagrees with the
18:52judges then he can exercise his safe and that eliminated designer can then return back to the
18:58competition but that can only happen one time and one more change this season we will have an anonymous
19:06runway show so we the judges do not know who designs which look all right let's start the show
19:16considering the time constraints as far as not knowing how to use the machine the material all
19:24that stuff I'm really happy with the dress now I know next time not to hold back
19:31seeing my model walk down the runway my heart stopped she's so gorgeous she's working the gown I
19:49I couldn't be more happy I can see my inspiration I can see Amelia Earhart but I can also see the
20:02modernity that I put into the design the clothes fit her the clothes are unique I'm smiling like a lunatic
20:11even though it's not perfect I'm just filled with joy and happiness I really like the effect the
20:32plates give the dress I'm proud of that oh my watching my look come to the runway first my reaction
20:42vagina drops it's like a parachuting accident I did a lot of work so it's very emotional for me
20:56watching my model go down the runway is a shocking experience the inspiration is there and I'm a little
21:12more confident about how this look is going to turn out my model looks good she looks confident she looks
21:24well-dressed I feel satisfied so happy honestly I'm looking more at the judges to see what their reactions are
21:41my model turns the corner and she just looks so fierce
21:49that dress had its issues but I feel like she made it look so great with just her presence
21:54and her walk I was so proud I'm disappointed that there is no performance is she a parachute victim the
22:12concept was strong in the origami and the performance was gone so I lost half of the dress
22:19the garment is doing everything that I wanted it to do that's really cute I'd wear it the silhouette represents
22:37me as a designer I had goosebumps I'm so determined this season to get my point of view across especially this first look I think it's very me
22:53when I see when I see my model walk I'm excited she has such attitude
23:11it's funky she sort of you know gives it a little twirl
23:14so my model turns on the runway and I gasp the dress starts riding up in the front it starts sticking to her legs because it's parachute fabric
23:36I am panicking
23:50I'm definitely happy with how its dialed and the way my model is working that jacket
23:56it. I'm very confident as a designer. Really cool. That looks cute. This design represents
24:20my aesthetic and I'm very happy. Watching my garment come down the runway is incredible.
24:38The black, pink and orange against the white runway is just awesome. But I realize there
24:44is a lot of competition and every design that walked down that runway is fantastic.
24:54Okay I have just learned which designer created which look. If I call your name please step
25:01forward. Angela. Sue. Miranda. Brayden. Sandro. Timothy. If I have not called your name, congratulations.
25:20Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next round. You can leave the runway. The
25:27six of you represent the highest and the lowest scores. One of you will be named the winner
25:34and one of you will be out. The six of you represent the highest and the lowest scores. One of you
25:46will be named the winner and one of you will be out. Alright let's bring out your models.
25:55Alright Timothy tell us about your look. When the skydivers were landing the first thing that I was
26:02thinking was paratroopers specifically in World War II. Hiroshima and so there's a story of the
26:07Sadako and the Thousand Cranes. The crane is the international sign of peace and then this sort of
26:14poetic travesty in the front and then contrasting one another. The high heels are killing me.
26:20Timothy, did you steal the shoes from your model? I just wanted her to be barefoot. This was not one
26:26of my favorites. I think it's very muddled especially around this area that you're struggling with the fabric.
26:33What is the layering effect there? I have the yellow parachute and then I layered the white over top of it
26:40and then burned both the bottom layer and the top layer. It looks like you found her in the woods.
26:45Like Tinkerbell at Burning Man. Why is she not wearing any makeup? Why did you not do anything with her hair?
26:52Coming from a perspective of sustainability, I just instinctually just felt like I didn't want to do it.
26:58I'm excited to have somebody that is so conscious about that. However, you are behind a very powerful cause
27:07so I think that you should work even harder to make it as beautiful as possible.
27:11I want to say something about the sustainability by burning synthetic fibers.
27:15That makes no sense. And creating bad fumes in the world. You're just breaking everything
27:21you say you believe in. Thank you, Timothy. Thank you. Sue, tell us about your look.
27:27I wanted to keep the parachute itself as complete or integral. I didn't want to cut too much into it.
27:33I wanted the design sort of airy but I wanted a certain amount of weight to it as well. It's actually
27:37doubled and that sort of dictated to me what the shape was going to be like. It's beautiful how
27:43kind of bleeds from the orange to the red to the pink to the fuchsia. It looked like a runway show.
27:49Thank you. I like the sculptural quality of the dress. I like that it looks like you took an object
27:54and morphed it into a dress. It's very exciting. Thank you. I love that it looks very sporty but at
28:01the same time very elegant. I think the placement of the ruching is very interesting. How you did this
28:08on this side and then the waist. I love that particular ruching on that. I thought the length
28:13in the back was quite interesting. I was curious to know your thought behind that. Actually I was
28:18working with what I had. Oh really? Yeah. That's how I often work is it's the material that tells me
28:23what I can do with it. And if it's too short then I'll try to make it as beautiful as possible.
28:27Your first result is very exciting. Congratulations. Thank you very much. Miranda, tell us about your look.
28:33When we saw the skydivers jumping out it made me really excited because I got the opportunity to
28:39do that when I was in the army. One thing I remember when I was skydiving was how you could
28:44actually see the guides on the runway and how beautiful of a contradiction that was those bright
28:50colors together. Then when we got this black I thought I would add in the black in this contrasting
28:57color. So the black that you use is actually not the parachute material?
29:01Is what you're saying? It is the extra material. So Miranda the parachute fabric is the color
29:06highlights? It's the color highlights. And the strapping? And then this strapping.
29:10I really love this silhouette. I think it's very now. I love the way you styled her. I love her hair,
29:16her makeup. It is a little disappointing that it's not all parachute material but I think
29:23the touches that you placed are perfect. Great first impression.
29:27Really beautiful and I agree incredibly modern. I would happily wear this. I can see you wearing it.
29:34Yeah. I think you have the most polished piece up here. It looks super finished even though you didn't
29:39use the material. Miranda, I do have to say I have a huge problem with the material that you used.
29:46This is the unconventional materials challenge. Not the unconventional inspirational challenge.
29:52Right. So yes, I like the inspiration but is it fair to the other designers?
29:58I understand. For any challenges going forward be very careful. She's a very tough judge.
30:04I will. I'll take your advice to heart. Angela, tell us about your look.
30:09I wanted to be inspired by the parachute and so in the silhouette I wanted to mimic the fullness of
30:16the parachute and sort of feel like she's still sort of wearing a parachute. I saw your model walk
30:23down the runway and I was thinking something is missing. Oh yeah, the bottom is missing. Pants,
30:29skirts, something. I thought just really long and this billowy seemed like a muumuu so I ended up making it
30:36short. It's got a very odd proportion. I mean I understand it's very simple but it almost feels
30:42like this is like a disposable poncho. I don't think you gave it enough thought. I wanted to see the back.
30:49I thought that's a really lovely kind of surprise. The pink underneath the blue and then the thought
30:53with the pink in the hood and I like the idea of a hood. The color is their work. The graphic
30:58breakup is quite beautiful. It really is. I was trying to make it chic. Unfortunately it's still a runway
31:03and you have to create effect as well. Thank you Angela. Thanks. Brayden, tell us about your look.
31:10I really wanted to get the feeling of being the skydiver, being the one falling out of the plane
31:16and really getting the air pressing against your chest, the fabric molding itself to the front and
31:22then flying out in the back. Brayden, I really really liked your dress. Thank you. It looks like a real
31:28expensive dress. It's nice that you actually use the strings from the parachute but it doesn't look
31:33cheap. I love this dress. I think it's so beautiful. I love that it's short underneath. I think it's an
31:40incredibly thoughtful design and I'm really excited to see what you do. Thank you. The walking and the
31:46movement of it is incredible. I was so excited to see something using parachute that would fill with air.
31:52The cording I find a little distracting and not the most refined on the front. Can I see the back?
31:57Let's see what the shape makes. Yeah, I love the back because that's such a wow and surprising and has
32:03movement in it and texture and color. I love the fact that you took this light fabric and made it very
32:11dramatic and billowy and then there's this fragility to the strings. That detail kills me. It's very fragile and
32:20it's holding this very dramatic and imposing fabric. I think you did a great job. Thank you.
32:27Sandro. I decided to do like a aviator look in the early 20th century in editorial way. It's all about
32:35people jumping from the airplane. Something active and sporty. I mean what is not going on in this outfit
32:42is the question. She looks like a slutty cat toy. You've put so much energy in accessorizing her look
32:50when really the energy that you need to invest is in the piece. Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
32:58I'm gonna have a little chat and then I'm gonna bring you back out. You can leave the runway. Thank you.
33:02So something else we're doing this season, something new. Tim is gonna come with the six looks and we can
33:11have a little closer look. Great idea. So here they are up close and personal. I want to see the pink
33:18because I think it's interesting that she layered this twice. She had a tremendous struggle yesterday
33:24morning and I thought I was walking into a disaster and when I walked up to this I thought this looks like
33:28Bergdorf's window. Absolutely. I think it's fabulous. And the pin tucking cartridge cleaning. Oh yes.
33:35Now this here up close. These seams I couldn't see them that well on the runway but when you see them
33:39here I mean that is so unflattering for. Well it's a dart and it's in the wrong place. It pushes the
33:44boobs down. We don't like that. That seam's not pretty. We like everything. Up and bulky. Exactly. This makes me dizzy. Are you popping out?
33:51Where did he get all this jewelry Tim? I guess this is jewelry from the accessory wall. Yeah he used it all.
33:57Yeah he really did didn't he? If I have one positive thing to say. I mean he did a great job here. I mean it's not like he has no sewing skills.
34:03It's not cutting in on the side. But the taste of how he put this together. To me it looks like
34:08costume. I think also we should have a closer look at Timothy's. I don't know. I mean it's a little creepy.
34:16I mean it's an interesting texture but it sort of looks like a burn victim. I like that he tried to do
34:21something with the material. It's such a hard fabric to work in. But I don't know if that makes it better.
34:26I mean I want sustainable fashion to be gorgeous. Yeah. Because otherwise it's a disservice. Agreed.
34:34Do your stuff y'all. We know that you can make this like really. That is beautiful. The colors now the
34:38pastel colors and then that bright tip at the end. It's really cool. That's a wow factor. Let's have a look at
34:45Miranda's. Here's my problem. She used more of the supplemental material than the actual parachute
34:51material. I love the concept though of the top in a skirt. Sometimes you can see that big gap that
34:55becomes a bit tacky and I think that she had a precise eye with how much is just enough. Tim how do
35:00you feel about though that she used not the material that she was supposed to use? Well the teacher in me
35:06would give her an F to be perfectly honest and I told her that. Thank you Tim. Thank you very much. Thank you
35:12models. I have to say I really love looking at the clothes up closely. The veil of the runway is lifted.
35:20Let's talk about Sandro. Oh boy. I'm really worried about his taste. However I thought it was interesting
35:27that he did that baby suit. There was construction there especially seeing it up close. It held up.
35:32The question is is it always going to be way too much and too many ideas?
35:36Let's move on to Angela. It looked like a smock a dental hygienist would wear. The back she executed
35:44better than the front. Unfortunately it was really sloppy. Let's discuss Timothy. I mean this was ugly.
35:52The front didn't match the back. It was kind of like two outfits glued together. He seems sweet but to
35:57make such a strong statement with her barefoot and then him in glitter high heels. I know. His kinky boots. I know.
36:06Let's discuss Sue. I was very impressed with this dress. The dress was an interesting cut. It looks
36:11very easy but I don't think it was easy. In his 40s it was it actually had the most couture techniques
36:18in it than any of the designs we saw. Graydon did a fantastic job. Mm-hmm volume drama. I mean when
36:27you have that much fabric and it's so light. Yeah. I mean there were a lot of concepts in the outfit
36:33from cording to strapless neckline to then straps. It worked. It worked in front of us on the runway.
36:41What are we going to do with Miranda? She was in the top and then we learned that she did not follow
36:48the rules. Tim was not happy. I'm not happy either to be honest with you. I know you're not. If you look
36:52at what is the percentage you're what 15 percent she used the parachute. It does reflect her concept
36:58of the runway with the landing lights. Yeah. I can see that here. Then I love the fact that she used
37:03the buckles in the back. Part of what makes this outfit interesting are the parachute details. I just
37:10always think is it fair what do the other designers think about this and then they say oh you know the
37:15judges they're cool. They let Miranda slip by. You know what I mean. We must set precedent.
37:21Okay so we've made our decision. Okay let's bring them back up.
37:33Viewer present the highest and the lowest scores. One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
37:45After our discussion we changed things around a little bit. Two of you were in the top and four of
37:54you are in the bottom. Miranda you did not follow the instructions and now you are at risk for going home.
38:05Brayden you are the winner of this challenge. Wow. Congratulations.
38:14This also means that you have immunity for the next challenge. Wow. You can leave the runway.
38:18Thank you very much. Thank you. I can't believe I won the first challenge of Project Runway.
38:24It's amazing. Oh beautiful. Hey you're back. Are you a winner?
38:33I've been doubting my confidence level as a fashion designer only because I had so much confidence
38:39as a professional dancer. Today my confidence level just rose a little bit.
38:46Sue, you're in. You can leave the runway. Thank you very much.
38:58Miranda, we liked your look but we wondered if we should disqualify you and send you home.
39:04But we didn't. Thank you. This is a warning. Okay. You're in. You can leave the runway. Thank you.
39:20Sandra, you're in. You can leave the runway.
39:23Okay. Timothy. Angela. One of you will be out. Timothy.
39:45You're in. You can leave the runway. Thank you.
39:53Angela, I'm sorry. This means you're out.
40:01Can I kiss you now? It's definitely depressing.
40:06I definitely regret that I didn't complete the look in the way that I originally wanted to complete it.
40:17It's really difficult to accept what's happening.
40:19This is the moment when I would use the Tim Gunn save or rescue, but it's only our first challenge.
40:26It's entirely too early in the season.
40:32Listen, I just have to tell you something. Had there been a pair of pants, it would have been
40:36a very different story. They didn't dislike your top. I hope they like something.
40:40You're a very talented designer. You wouldn't be here. Thank you so much.
40:44Well, I have to send you the work room to clean up your space. Thank you. I still plan to show a
40:49collection at Fashion Week. Somewhere not with all the big designers. Somewhere off in a gallery to the
40:57side. And hopefully I can get past this and not let it keep me down.
41:01This season on Project Runway, over $30 million worth of jewels. Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Shoes.
41:14They're off.
41:18We need to get you into nature. This is how fashion designers count.
41:22Boobs all over the place. You're crazy. Don't go there. You're shaking all over me.
41:29I was barely safe. Make down. You out of order. He's missing. No. I'm going to smash this camera.
41:37I promise you. Whoa. Our very own Michael Kors, Kelly Osborne, Haley Cuoco, Alison Williams.
41:45What do you guys think? Fabulous. Beautiful angel. You pooped in your pants.
41:49Toxic. Biohazard. It was awful. You guys really don't like each other, huh?
41:54No. Boy, oh boy, oh boy. It almost looks like she has a foaming vagina.
42:01I'm using my Tim Gunn safe. I'm going to need therapy after this.
42:33I'll be right back.
