00:00Hi there. High pressure has built back in following some thundery downpours on Thursday
00:05across eastern Scotland. That means most places heading into the weekend dry but not entirely
00:11clear because we do have an area of low cloud that is across the North Sea and spreading
00:17inland overnight and that's going to become extensive across the Midlands, eastern England
00:21in as far as the Pennines for example, Scottish mountains, some patches across the south coast,
00:27Northern Ireland as well. So yeah, cloudy night for many but not for all western areas, more likely
00:32to see those clear spells. Whether you've got the clear skies or the cloud, temperatures generally
00:37holding up at 16, 17 in the south, 12 to 14 further north. So similar to previous nights, another
00:43relatively warm night to come. And then mixed fortunes as we begin Saturday. We'll have that
00:48extensive low cloud and don't expect it to lift or break quickly. In fact, it may well hang around
00:55for much of the day across some central and eastern districts. We do have plenty of sunshine
01:00towards the west and that's where the highest temperatures will be, with temperatures rising
01:05into the high 20s across parts of, say, Wales into the southwest of England, low to mid 20s
01:11towards the northwest of the UK. But where we do keep the low cloud for longest, it's more
01:17like the low 20s. I suspect the cloud will break up later in the afternoon and into the evening
01:22skies will continue to clear and then there's less extensive low cloud towards the east.
01:27In fact, a mostly clear night. Your weather app might get the coverage of the low cloud
01:33wrong so don't rely on it too much to tell when the skies will clear. It is notoriously
01:38difficult for weather models to model this sort of thin, low layer of cloud. But it is looking
01:46reasonably likely that overnight most places will become clear and by the start of Sunday
01:52it's clear skies. A little bit cooler out there, I think, by Sunday morning. Still some low
01:57cloud for the north of Scotland, perhaps a few patches elsewhere. But on the whole, high
02:02pressure still in charge on Sunday, still bringing settled weather. Around the periphery of the
02:07high we do have strong winds, not only on Sunday but also on Saturday. Worth mentioning,
02:12the winds around the southwest of England will be particularly gusty around, say, Dartmoor
02:17or just to the west of Dartmoor. The potential for 50 miles an hour wind gusts at times through
02:22the weekend. So, yeah, despite the sunshine, fairly blustery in the southwest. And then
02:28we do also have some of this low cloud lingering around the North Sea. But as you can see, it's
02:31a sunnier picture on the whole on Sunday. It's dry as well. And temperatures where we get
02:36the best of any sunshine reaching the high 20s, perhaps an odd 30 Celsius so we get enough
02:41sunshine out of the breeze. But, yeah, it's another very warm day across the United Kingdom.
02:48And then heading into next week, it eventually turns more changeable. But I suspect it will
02:54be showers rather than longer spells of rain and wind. And those showers initially in the
02:59southwest at the start of next week, moving northeastwards through to the middle of the week.
03:02We'll see you in the middle of the week.
