On this episode of SoSouth, the focus is on the Vice President contest, with NDA's CP Radhakrishnan and India bloc's Justice Sudarshan Reddy filing nominations. Reddy frames the election as an ideological battle, stating, "Shri Radhakrishnan belongs to RSS... I am a liberal constitutional democrat." The programme also reports on AIADMK's Edapadi K. Palaniswami threatening an ambulance driver for entering his campaign trail in Anekad. In other news, Kerala is set to become India's first fully digitally literate state. In Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub to build Amaravati into the 'quantum valley of India'. 00:00Hello and a big welcome. Namaskara and Vanakkam. I'm Nagarjun Dwarkannath bringing you another episode of SoSouth.
00:09And joining me now are my colleagues from the southern part of India.
00:12Pramod Madhav from Chennai, Apoorva Jayachandran from Vijaywada, Shibi Mool from Trivendram.
00:18Bringing you stories from every nook and corner of the South Indian cities as well.
00:23Let's listen in to what they have in store for us today.
00:30I'll bring you more information about a Neta threatening an ambulance driver for passing through his campaign trail.
00:37And along with Anagakesha from Madurai, we'll get you more information about actor-turned-neta Vijay's Tamiragavitchi Karagam's second massive conference.
00:48I'm Shibi Mool KG and the story we're reporting from Kerala is about a historic moment.
00:53Kerala is all set to become the first state in India to attain full digital literacy.
00:57Coming up, a big boost for the state of Andhra Pradesh.
01:01Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Narachandra Babu Naidu has inaugurated the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub here at Mangalgiri earlier this morning.
01:11Not only here, but across five districts.
01:13That is Rajamandri, Anantapur, Vishakapatnam, Vijaywada and Tirupati.
01:18This innovation hub has been inaugurated today.
01:22This innovation hub holds as a center for deep tech learning, AI and other means of learning to help build Amaravati and Andhra Pradesh into the next quantum valley of India.
01:35Big day for South India today and tomorrow as two South Indians are set to file nominations with the NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan who has filed nominations today and tomorrow.
01:45It would be Justice Sudarshan Reddy who will be filing nominations from the India bloc.
01:50And next month on September 9th, Parliament will elect the next Vice President of India.
01:54Both NDA and the Oppositions have named their candidates for this Vice President contest.
02:01Today the NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan filed his nominations in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several NDA leaders.
02:09Many Union Ministers were also present during the nominations filing showcasing the strength and unity of the NDA together.
02:17Tomorrow is the last day to file nominations and the Oppositions candidate, former Justice Sudarshan Reddy is set to file his nominations.
02:25He spoke exclusively to India today and Artstack appealing to NDA MPs to support him.
02:31Sudarshan said Radhakrishnan belongs to the RSS and that the two candidates represent different ideologies.
02:37However, he added that he would defend the Constitution and is committed to following the Prime Minister's footsteps is what he had said.
02:45Let's listen in to what the interview said.
02:48Let's listen in to what the interview said.
03:18Shri Radhakrishnan Ji belongs to RSS, to which he is perfectly and perfect.
03:48That is the title.
03:49That is the ideology he has chosen.
03:50But I don't share and come from that background.
03:56I am a liberal constitutional democrat.
03:59And I came under the influence of Dr. Loya when I was in my first year of college.
04:09I am entitled to my ideology and likewise Shri Radhakrishnan Ji also is entitled to his ideology.
04:10That's all.
04:11Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:12That's all.
04:13Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:14Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:15Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:16Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:17That's all.
04:18Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:19Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:21Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:22Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:23Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:28Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:30Shri Radhakrishnan Ji.
04:43It is their wisdom and political decision to support the candidature of the NDA about which
05:10I can't make any comment.
05:13But, it is not the political parties who elect the vice president, it is the members of the
05:24parliament which elect the vice president.
05:32There is nothing like a whip, you are very well aware of it.
05:40So, I trust and believe in the wisdom of all the members of the parliament that they will
05:54weigh and try to assess the relative merits and demerits of all the candidates.
06:02As at present there are only two but we do not know what happens tomorrow.
06:09And exercise their franchise and accordingly appeal to all the members of the parliament
06:17in respect to the party operations to consider my candidature.
06:22Well, that was Justice Sudarshan Reddy speaking exclusively to India today about his nominations
06:27that's coming up tomorrow.
06:28And now joining me is Aishwarya Paliwal from Delhi.
06:31Aishwarya, what are you picking up from your sources?
06:34Is the India bloc having some magic wand to make sure that they have the numbers on their
06:38side?
06:39And what's the TDP, YSRCP and the BRS, the Telugu parties thinking right now?
06:44Well, let me tell you one thing Nagarjun, you know the opposition obviously understands
06:49that they don't have the numbers but this is an ideological war.
06:52They are now fighting against the RSS and the BJP and that's the reason why let me tell
06:56you they are making sure that they come up with a candidate, a candidate according to the
07:00opposition, someone who's non-political.
07:02And let me also tell you this was the only statement that came from West Bengal, from
07:06TMC, one of the key allies of the India bloc.
07:09Mamata Banerjee made a very public statement Nagarjun in which she said that we should now be
07:13looking at someone who's not political.
07:15We've also seen the controversies, the rumours that took place with regards to the former
07:20VP.
07:21Was he too inclined towards the opposition?
07:23Was he taking opposition side?
07:25Did he become too political?
07:27So all these things, making sure that they stay away from all those things and that's
07:30the reason why you even heard Prime Minister.
07:33Prime Minister Narendi Modi yesterday in a very subtle way said that he will not be getting
07:37into the politics that we see on a daily basis.
07:39So you know, messaging coming in from both the sides.
07:42The opposition also, let me tell you, will show their strength because they want to tell
07:46the BJP, the NDA that they are united, very much willing to fight, very much willing to
07:51fight it out.
07:51They don't have the numbers on their side.
07:53But yes, Europa, it's optics.
07:55And the opposition also wants to show, especially the Congress party, that they are united,
07:59all set, all willing to fight it out.
08:01Well, thank you, Aishwarya, for bringing us all the details and updates from the parliament.
08:09And now, handing it over to my colleague, Pramodh, to bring you more updates from Chennai.
08:13Well, thank you, Nagarjun.
08:26You all know that election season has started in the state of Tamil Nadu with many nethas
08:30going with their campaigns.
08:31And that leads to a lot of people gathering in a lot of areas, especially prominent roads
08:36and public spots.
08:37But one important moral that we have to follow all the time is that we need to make sure that
08:43ambulances are given way, no matter what the situation is.
08:47But what happened recently is, in the leader of opposition, Edapati K. Parneswami's AIDMK
08:52campaign at Anikad, an incident occurred where he got upset over an ambulance entering his
09:00campaign trail.
09:01EPS did not stop over there.
09:02He asked his carers to find out if the ambulance was carrying any kind of patient.
09:07And if not, that is going to turn out to be trouble.
09:10In fact, he said that for the past 30 campaigns, he's also seen such kind of incidences, calling
09:16it as indecent politics by DMK.
09:19And EPS went a little far ahead by threatening the ambulance occupants, that is the driver and
09:24the technician, claiming that the next time if such an ambulance without patients enters
09:29his campaign, people, they will turn into the ambulance driver or the occupants of the
09:34ambulance, will turn into patients and will have to go to the hospital.
09:38However, the driver very clearly explained that he got a call.
09:41He had to go through that road.
09:42Every other road in that Anikad region was blocked.
09:45And since the patient was waiting and she was in need of oxygen, he had to take the road
09:49through that.
09:50And there was no other option.
09:52While the DMK minister, Maas Subramaniam, very clearly states that ambulances are essential
09:58services working 24-7 and they need to be given way.
10:02And in a sarcastic manner claimed that probably EPS is afraid of ambulances.
10:07And he said that it is not respectable for a former chief minister to behave in such manner
10:13and threaten medical services for people.
10:16You are going to go to the hospital.
10:46No!
10:48I am not a fan of a fan!
10:50I am the one who is here.
10:52The other guy is here.
10:54We are here.
10:56He is here.
10:58He is here.
11:00I am here.
11:02The other guy is here.
11:04He is here.
11:06He is here.
11:08He is here.
11:10He is here.
11:12They are shut down by the door for the door.
11:18The name is ID for the phone.
11:23It is called AmbiMobile.
11:27The police are all contacted.
11:30They are being in a GHA for the patient's.
11:35If you don't have a patient, you will need to go to the patient.
11:44If you don't have a patient, you will need to go to the patient.
11:56We are in the first class of 207 years, and I'm going to have a meeting.
12:07I'll tell them to go.
12:09We are looking for the case in the Gramapuranga, Malayagranga, Nagaranga, Magaranga.
12:16There are about 80 people who are getting an ambulance to come.
12:22We have to talk about how many people are being able to take care of their children.
12:27In the past, they have to talk about the ambulance and others.
12:33They have to talk about the ambulance.
12:37They have to talk about the ambulance.
12:39Here the ambulance is coming.
12:43They can tell us about the ambulance.
12:46Some people say about the ambulance.
12:48They say about the ambulance.
12:52The ambulance driver is the name of the ambulance driver and the ambulance driver is the name of the ambulance driver.
13:22And it looks like festivities for Vijay fans slash Vijay fan caters, TVK caters has come early this time as they are all set and ready for the conference, Vijay's TVK conference in Madurai, which is to be done on 21st of August.
13:39Very interestingly, that's the same place where several netas have gone ahead and initiated their party.
13:44In fact, even Kamal Hassan for his Makul Nidhimayam, he started over there only with a major conference, a massive conference.
13:51At this time, it is Vijay.
13:52This is his second political conference.
13:55A lot of work has been put into it.
13:56The paths have been cleared, paths for people.
13:59Vijay has also gone ahead and said that like young children, people with young children or school students and elderly people, he has requested them not to attend the function, but to watch it from the home itself.
14:11Because a lot of people, like we have observed what happens when Vijay conducts a kind of conference earlier and not just that, he has gone ahead and also said that he is not the alternative force, but the primary force.
14:23And a very interesting aspect here is that on that conference, in the stage, on top of it, a huge hoarding has been placed where you would see Vijay with MGR, the neta of AIA DMK, the founder, and Anna Durai, who is the founder of DMK.
14:39Vijay is standing next to them all and not just that, Vijay has also said that which means history is repeating in a way he has reiterated earlier that he wants to repeat the same history.
14:53that happened in 1967 and 1977, kind of talking about how the Dravidian parties took over the power from Congress earlier in 1967 and how MGR became a major power in 1977.
15:09Now, fans across, he wants the fans, especially from in and around Madurai to come to this particular conference.
15:15And that is why it has been conducted, all preparations have been done to conduct this conference in a massive manner.
15:23At the same time, Vijay has also placed requests that people should be extremely cautious, considering that, unfortunately, during his last conference, certain people died in road accidents and such.
15:34So, he wants him to avoid such things.
15:36Come carefully, watch the conference and go back.
15:39Very interestingly, we've been also told that Vijay's speech is going to be fiery, that too, targeting his political enemy and ideological enemy.
15:49Well, unfortunately, we have a breaking news as well.
16:00One of the fans of Vijay, who was very happy to go ahead and show his participation for the conference, he was trying to help his friends set up hoardings and flag of TVK.
16:13Today, this is at Virdanagar district, when what happened is that he, unfortunately, got electrocuted.
16:18We've been told that the 19-year-old boy called Kali Swaran from Virdanagar, Enam Kulatur is the place and where he was trying to help with creating hoardings and also placing a flag.
16:30He got electrocuted, unfortunately, and he has passed away.
16:33Yet another unfortunate incident from Chingalpattu this time.
16:47A woman called Jeeva, along with her husband, she was taking part in a wedding ceremony.
16:51And as a part of it, she was dancing on the stage, but unfortunately, she collapsed.
16:56And we've got information right now that Jeeva and her husband had gone to a wedding function at Mammalipuram in a private wedding hall where a famous Tamil singer called us Vail Murugan was participating.
17:10And he was singing over there and just asked the crowd to join him, dance and celebrate the moment.
17:14And as part of it, Jeeva had climbed to the stage and she was dancing with children over there joyously, but suddenly she fell down and collapsed.
17:22The people over there tried to give her first aid and as she did not wake up, she was taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, she was declared brought dead.
17:31Now, the medical conditions and the details have not yet been revealed, but Jeeva dancing, collapsing, falling down.
17:37That particular video shot by one of the people who have attended that wedding has now turned viral.
17:44And one more joyous news from the God's own country and over to Shibimol for more updates on that.
18:14Thank you, Pramod.
18:23Well, Kerala is all set to create history as it is going to become the first state in India to attain full digital literacy.
18:31Chief Minister Penrai Vijayan will make the official declaration tomorrow at an event in Tiruvannathapuram.
18:36Now, where did the story begin?
18:37It began in Pullampara, a gram panjait in rural Tiruvannathapuram, which became the first panjait in India to attain full digital literacy.
18:45Now, what happened was when the COVID hit and lockdown took place, the panjait members noticed how the elderly in the panjait were risking their health and going to bank and other essential stores to get things done,
18:57which they could have easily done if they had a smartphone and how they knew if they knew how to use it.
19:01That's the thought behind implementing the project called Digi Pullampara.
19:06The Kudumbashree members, the panjait members met people, convinced them and taught them how to handle a smartphone.
19:12So, they taught them based on modules and whatever were their requirements and this was successfully implemented and, you know, later Pullampara became the first panjait in India to attain full digital literacy.
19:24Following this, the model was adopted by the state government and implemented across the state.
19:28So, over the last one, two years, over the last two years, the state government conducted a survey, identified people who were digitally illiterate and decided to give training.
19:38Now, Kerala stands fully digitally literate.
19:41Listen in to the reactions coming in from the state.
19:45Kerala is creating history.
19:47It's becoming the first digitally literate state, fully literate state.
19:50What do you want to say about it first?
19:52So, it's a great moment for us.
19:56It's a matter of pride for Kerala.
19:58So, this is the real Kerala story.
20:01So, Kerala is creating yet another history by achieving total digital literacy.
20:07In 1991, 34 years ago, Kerala became the first Indian state to achieve total literacy.
20:13So, now, from total literacy to digital literacy, we have traveled a long way.
20:19In fact, we have made all our local self-government services online.
20:24So, K-Smart is a unique software and a unique mobile application.
20:28With the help of K-Smart mobile application, the citizens of Kerala can avail any services of local self-government institutions from anywhere in the world.
20:37So, Kerala is creating a lot of digital literacy.
21:07So, Kerala is creating a lot of digital literacy.
21:09So, Kerala is creating the next video.
21:10And I'm becoming the only one that I've learned.
21:12So, Kerala is creating a lot of digital literacy.
21:16How did you learn how to write and make a lot of digital literacy?
21:19I just said, I wascore one of my photos.
21:25I was taught one of my photos.
21:28I was taught one of my videos.
21:34Do you have video call to make a video?
21:38I don't know.
21:40I'm doing that.
21:44I'm not a kid.
21:46I'm not a kid.
21:50I'm not a kid.
21:59Well, LSGD Minister M.B. Rajesh called it the real Kerala story
22:02and said that this model will inspire everyone else in the country.
22:05That's all we have from Kerala.
22:07Over to my colleague, Apoorva Jayachandran in Andhra.
