00:00Hi again.
00:01You may want an extra blanket on the bed tonight as it's going to be a rather chilly one and
00:04that's courtesy of largely clearing skies across most of the UK.
00:08There is still a little bit of cloud across the very far south east of England through
00:11the next few hours, perhaps the odd light shower around as well, but generally a dry
00:15night to come across most of the UK and with those clearing skies it is going to turn rather
00:20cold, particularly in the countryside where temperatures are expected to fall widely into
00:23single figures and in some rural spots in the most prone locations where we could even
00:27see temperatures getting quite close to freezing, so a fairly widespread grass frost expected
00:32overnight tonight.
00:35Temperatures in the towns and cities holding a little bit higher, but nonetheless into
00:37single figures and as we go towards the morning we all like to see quite a bit in the way of
00:41fog developing, so quite patchy in the west just here and there, but across the eastern
00:46parts of England, well it's here that we could see some more widespread fog perhaps to affect
00:50the Monday morning commute to work, so perhaps do leave yourself a little bit of extra time
00:54to get to work in the morning, but that fog will lift through the morning, lifting into
00:58low cloud and then dispersing, so plenty of sunshine for many parts of England and Wales,
01:02particularly in the morning.
01:03The cloud will bubble up and spread out as we go into the afternoon, but still some sunny
01:07intervals around for many of us nonetheless.
01:10Across the northwest of Scotland though it will be a different story and here it will already
01:14be quite a wet start to the day and through the day we'll see outbreaks of rain spreading
01:17their way gradually eastwards, but tending to become quite light and patchy.
01:21It will also turn quite breezy in the northwest, so wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour in
01:26the far northwest of Scotland, but generally those winds coming in from a southerly direction
01:30on Monday, so for most of us temperatures around or even slightly above average for the time
01:36of year, so highs of 17 to 19 degrees Celsius in the south, more like 14 or 15 in the north
01:42and northwest and certainly feeling cooler in the west of Scotland where those winds are
01:46fairly brisk.
01:46It will stay quite breezy through Monday evening and Monday night across the far northwest of
01:52the UK.
01:53There will also be some further outbreaks of rain pushing in from the Atlantic, so parts
01:57of the northern line seeing some rain, but most of that rain across the north and the northwest
02:01of Scotland through the early hours of Tuesday morning.
02:03Otherwise, many parts of England and Wales staying dry, some fairly lengthy clear spells
02:07once again.
02:08I wouldn't be surprised to see at least a few isolated mist and fog patches once again by
02:13the time we get to Tuesday morning.
02:15Not quite as cold as it will be tonight, but nonetheless temperatures in the countryside
02:19falling into mid-single figures and perhaps the odd patch of frost around as well.
02:25Now for Tuesday, it's again going to be a fairly bright picture for most of England and Wales.
02:29There will be some high-level cloud in the sky at times, so not blue skies for everyone,
02:33but still bright or sunny at times.
02:36Generally quite a bit cloudy though across many parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland, and there
02:40will be some sporadic outbreaks of rain coming and going, perhaps wettest across the far
02:45southwest of Scotland, but generally the rain relatively light and intermittent elsewhere.
02:49Once again with the winds coming in from the south, a fairly warm day for the time of year.
02:54Highs of up to 20 degrees Celsius in the southeast of England, and certainly a warmer day across
02:59Scotland and Northern Ireland compared to on Monday.
03:01Parts of northeast Scotland will be favoured for seeing temperatures into the high teens
03:05locally and the best of any hazy sunshine.
03:07Now as we go into the middle part of the week, we are going to see the jet stream strengthening
03:12out across the North Atlantic.
03:13So this ribbon of pink here indicating some very strong winds in the upper atmosphere,
03:18and it's that jet stream that will help to develop areas of low pressure as we go through
03:22the middle part of the week.
03:23So quite an unsettled flavour to the weather across the north of the UK.
03:27Outbreaks of rain at times, and also the isobars tightening together as well, so it will
03:31be rather windy for many parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland at times through the middle
03:34part of the week.
03:35And there will be a lot of rain to come.
03:37So this graphic here just shows that it's going to be Western Scotland in particular,
03:41where we're seeing the highest rainfall totals through the middle part of the week.
03:46Potentially the wettest spots of Western Scotland, because we could well see well over 100 millimetres
03:50of rain by the time we get to the end of Thursday.
03:52Quite a bit of rain also though for Northern Ireland and North West England as well, particularly
03:56the Cumbrian Fells.
03:58But actually the rest of England and Wales, particularly in the southeast, well you notice on this graphic
04:02here, very little, if any, in the way of rain through the weekend.
