00:00Hey Canada, welcome to Good Bites Takeout. I'm Alex and this is the show where I make the most
00:11of the fact that I can't go out to eat so instead I take it to go. I'm on St. Catherine Street West
00:15walking to what's often referred to as View Chinatown. Sammy soup and dumplings has a
00:20loaded dumpling menu but the thing that has people driving in and lining up is their xiaolongbao soup
00:27dumplings. Xiaolongbao is a very famous local food in Shanghai area now even all
00:32over China and it has a long history since a hundred years ago in China. My
00:38family owns the same kind of restaurant in China. It's very popular people like it
00:43very much. I'm thinking why not I bring this kind of food to Montreal now it's
00:48something it's a very popular food in Canada. Today I present three flavors so
00:53the first juicy pork you know it's a very traditional flavor and if you don't
00:58know what's your order you can take the juicy pork it's good choice. The second
01:04is lamb coriander you know its taste is unique and the sufficient flavor mix the
01:10lamb and fresh coriander together. The last one is pan-fried cherry and beef. This
01:16one we created by ourselves and it's popular and if you are the fans of curry you
01:24will love it for sure.
01:26All right I'm gonna kick things off here with the original the sweet pork and the
01:36reason is this is probably the one that a lot of people who are trying this out
01:39for the first time are gonna go with. I'm gonna tell you right now I've today found
01:43out that I've been eating these dumplings completely wrong for years. What
01:47you're supposed to do is you're supposed to pick up the dumpling with your
01:51chopsticks place it in the spoon. That's step one. Take a bite out of this just
01:56enough to let the juices pour out. You drink it in you get all that flavor and you
02:02place it back down and now the trick is see that opening you dunk it in and you
02:08just scoop up some sauce and that's what you eat.
02:15Listen it might be the wrong way to do it but I enjoy the Neanderthal way of eating it.
02:21Pop it in my mouth it tastes good.
02:23All right moving on to dumpling number two I've got lamb and coriander. Now what I'm
02:28gonna do here though is I'm gonna mix the two methods the right way in the wrong way
02:31and I'm gonna try to come up with something new maybe you've done this
02:33before maybe I'm a genius. I'm gonna bite the top off leave the soup inside and I'm
02:40just gonna dunk this over and make a little volcano of flavor.
02:50Oh my god how have I never done this before? As much as I love coriander and I
02:54love lamb and this is very good lamb the way it blends together with the juices and
02:58the flavor of the coriander is awesome. The sweet pork that they had in that
03:01original one is just out of this world and I'm appreciating that a little bit
03:05more having tasted this. Still good. All right to close things off now the third
03:09dish is gonna be pan fried beef and curry dumplings. A little bit different from
03:14the soup ones there is no liquid inside and I don't know about you but I've never
03:17had curry inside of a dumpling before. I'm willing to give it a shot.
03:22I'm not really like blown away by the beef and curry. It's doing something oh you
03:28know what there's actually a lingering flavor hold on. It's growing on me. You
03:33know what it is? I'm so used to the juices from the soup dumplings blowing up in my
03:38mouth and just being a quick hit right away. This is a slow burn. You have one it
03:43sits on your tongue. You have the second one the flavors start expanding and the one
03:47thing that's standing out the most to me is that the curry is super subtle. If you're not
03:51crazy about curry this might actually be good for you to try just because it's
03:56it's just the tinge of it. You're just getting a tiny little taste of it but at
03:59the same time if you're absolutely crazy about curry you're not gonna get a whole
