On this episode of Good Bites Takeout, host Alex Melki orders in from a new spot in Montreal that specializes in making the most amazing variety of cinnamon buns in the city.

Co-owners and longtime friends Angela Houzouris and Melina Mammas couldn’t find the cinnamon buns they craved, so they decided to reinvent them instead.

From Oreo to Dunkaroos and Red velvet to Carrot Cake, Bun Appétit has 6 unique bun creations to try each sweeter than the last.

00:01This is the show where I make the most of the fact that we can't go out to eat, so instead

00:05I'm Alex and today I have a very sweet treat for you.
00:11Today is the day that I found out there are more types of flavors of cinnamon bun other
00:15than just original.
00:16See, my whole life that's what I thought it was, but there's a new place in Montreal
00:19called Bon Appétit.
00:21Three words.
00:22Dunkaroos Cinnamon Bun.
00:24They make that and a whole lot more.
00:26You're going to freak out.
00:27Let's get to the order.
00:30The Dunka Bun.
00:41A Dunkaroo bun layered with graham crackers and their signature Dunkaroo-inspired icing.
00:46The Fudge and Bone.
00:47A chocolate bun layered with Oreos topped with their signature frosting and Oreo crumbs.
00:53The Velvet Noe.
00:54A red velvet bun topped with a cream cheese frosting, chocolate drizzle, and a chunk of white chocolate.
00:59The Bunny Bun.
01:00A carrot cake bun topped with cream cheese flavored icing, drizzled caramel, and walnut
01:05crumbs with a dropper filled with caramel.
01:09The Love You Berry Much.
01:10Strawberry rhubarb-infused bun topped with a berry frosting and shaved white chocolate.
01:16And the OG Cinnamon.
01:17Cinnamon, cream cheese frosting, that's it.
01:19Alright, I'm going to kick things off with the Dunka Bun.
01:22This is what caught my eye in the first place.
01:24Can we just talk about how adorable this is?
01:26Look at that.
01:27Tiny little teddy bear.
01:28Stick it off the top.
01:34Oh my god.
01:35This tastes like nostalgia.
01:36Get me a Tamagotchi and let's go see Space Jam because that's what this tastes like.
01:40I have no other words.

01:45Nailed it.
01:46Dunk-a-Rouge.
01:47It's literally Dunk-a-Rouge.
01:48Next up, we have the fudge and bone.
01:49Now, look.
01:50I'm basic when it comes to ice cream and desserts and flavors.
01:53And when you put Oreo on something, I'll eat it.
01:55I was expecting the chocolate inside.
01:59The Oreo was perfect.
02:00Anybody that thinks Oreo was played out, you need to try this.
02:03Okay?
02:04This is going to save Oreo.
02:05I forgot to mention how amazing all of these smell.
02:08We're at the red velvet now.
02:09And I'm going to cut right through this white chocolate at the top there.
02:12Look at that.
02:13That's a little not safe for work right there.
02:18Mm.
02:19The thing about red velvet is it needs to mix beautifully with the cream cheese topping in it.
02:23It does.
02:24Pull out the red carpet for the red velvet.
02:26It is that good.
02:27This is the bunny bun.
02:29Okay, I don't know how I feel about carrot cake in a cinnamon bun.
02:32Doesn't make sense to me.
02:33But you have this cute little heart-shaped receptacle that contains some caramel.
02:41Oh.
02:45Okay, this is a cake.
02:46I'm going to be honest with you.
02:47This is a cake in the shape of a cinnamon bun.
02:49But it's so good.
02:51Moving on to the love you very much, which I got to say is maybe the prettiest of the options that they have.
02:58Strawberry robot.
03:02Mm.
03:03Oh my god.
03:04I don't know what this is, but this is one of the best things I've ever tasted.
03:08It's like a jam paste.

03:24Now that I'm done with the buns, let's talk to the owners and find out how they reinvented cinnamon buns in 2021.
03:29What's the backstory here?
03:31First of all, are you guys friends?
03:33Did you guys know each other beforehand?
03:34Are you family?
03:35What's going on?
03:36We met a long time ago.
03:37It's Saturday school, actually.
03:38So we've been friends since like childhood.
03:40And then we work together in restaurants.
03:42So we always like we're always connected throughout our whole lives.
03:45And then how did this come about?
03:47Basically, we both have a love for cooking and baking.
03:50And I went to New York for a month in October to visit my sisters.
03:54And I was like, I really want like a cinnamon bun, but like I want an Oreo cinnamon bun.
04:01So then I was looking up recipes.
04:02Oh, where can I find an Oreo cinnamon bun?
04:04And I'm like, hey, let's just make it.
04:06So obviously I made it.
04:07I was like, this is delicious.
04:08Where can I find this in Montreal?
04:10Nowhere.
04:11It doesn't exist.
04:12We infuse our cinnamon buns with different flavors, the different toppings.
04:15So it's, it's making it more fun.
04:17If people want to order your buns right now, how do they do that?
04:21For now it's Instagram and Facebook and email.
04:23But slowly, slowly a website definitely is going to come through.
