There seems to be about a million and one skating rinks in Montreal, yet somehow, so many locals end up flocking to the same ones time and time again. So in hopes of switching things up, Alanna Moore from MTL Blog went on a mission to explore some of the lesser-known rinks around the city, all of which are within a 15-minute walk from a metro station.

00:00What's up guys? It's Alana from MTLblog. I'm on my way to go around the city discovering
00:13local skating rinks that are within a 15-minute walk from a metro station. So let's see how it
00:18do. I'm on my way to the first skating rink. It's at Park Martin Luther King in Côté-Neiges. It is
00:26at Plamondon Metro. Little note to make sure you get out at the Barclay exit. If not, it
00:32will be an 18-minute walk like I accidentally did. But if not, it's a 15-minute walk. And
00:38on this list, it's the farthest one from a metro. So let's see if it's worth it. So the park
00:42is right on that street on Appleton. And it is super close to Plaza Côté-Neiges.
00:47The ice is cleared off. It looks super nice. Very private. It's in a very residential area.
01:02There's two rinks. That one over there looks like it's for hockey. This one, beautiful size.
01:09And there's no one here right now. It's still Thursday morning. So makes sense. So I would say
01:14this park is amazing to come skating. It is right off Côté-Neiges Road. So there's
01:20tons of places to go eat around also. If you have kids or your little cousins, there's a little
01:25park right here too. And there's two rinks. So tons of space. Very clean. I approve.
01:35We are now on our way to Mackenzie King. I'm getting off at Côté-Catherine Metro.
01:41It is supposed to be like two minutes away. So very easy to get to. Google Maps was not lying.
01:47The park is just minutes away from Côté-Catherine Metro. But the skating rink at Mackenzie King
01:55Park is currently being clean. So I can't exactly rate the ice. And obviously no one is on it. But
02:02we know it's being cleaned, being taken care of. I found a major bonus.
02:11Look at the views that you get of St. Joseph's Oratory. Absolutely worth it. There's also a
02:16cute little forest behind. It's very, very calm, very serene.
02:20So Jean Briand is just four minutes from Côté-Catherine Metro. But there's tons of stuff around it too.
02:30So we can get some ramen and coffee at the SAQ. You can see the skating rink right in front of me.
02:36It's close to a road. But the other way is pedestrian. So it's pretty quiet. And like I said before,
02:44tons of stuff around. So definitely worth it. There's some cool little structure next to it.
02:50A little artsy vibe.
02:54There's two different rinks. The one to the right is for hockey. This one is just a circular
03:03skating rink. Looks well done. Quite clean. There's tons of pedestrian way around. Super easy to get to.
03:14So clearly Côté-Den-Ais and NDG have got it going on.
03:23Got off at Cadillac station and I'm making my way to Pau-Cajon-Aimont.
03:30I believe that's how you pronounce it. On your walk over you get a little glimpse of the Olympic stadium.
03:36I'm making our way. Very residential area but very very cute.
03:46Yet again we got two rings. One from hockey that looks like it's up kept. Skating one,
03:54not so much. Tons of snow. Maybe they just haven't gone around to it yet. This little
04:03Maison des Jeunes here. Snowed up skate park. Definitely a cool place in the summer.
04:13It's a beautiful walk up Starbrook with a great view of the Olympic stadium.
04:18So here we are at Parc Maisonneuve. There's a whole round loop to skate.
04:31This is a huge space compared to all the others. People are cross-country skiing. People are skating.
04:40There's people over there playing hockey. There's a big round about sort of like a trail in Parc Maisonneuve
04:48that you can skate. So tons and tons of space. Also if you are into snowboarding or skiing just on the
04:55other side of the park right in front of the Olympic stadium is a snow park where as you can see people
05:02are hitting, hitting slopes. We have now made it to the sixth and final skating rink
05:08at Parc Walter Stewart in Ville Marie slash Hochelaga ish. It's right near Rue Ontario. There's a cute view
05:19of a church right in front and currently I'm about to have the ice all to myself.
05:23So I have to say out of the six definitely Parc Maisonneuve. Maybe it is one that people do know
05:37about but beautiful skating rink, beautiful views of the Olympic stadium and I would also have to say
05:43even though it was a whole mission to get to I really did like the rink at Parc Martin Luther King.
05:50It's in a super good location in Cote d'Aige. Honestly I would go to all six of them again.
05:54Go out, discover Montreal, do everything. It's so worth it. During the winter we love to stay in our beds
06:00it's so easy but I'm telling you all the exercise today made me feel amazing and it would do the same
06:05for you.
