1981 Formula One World Championship is the 32nd season of the Formula One World Championship recognised by the FIA. For the first time ever, the series is now officially run under the name of FIA Formula One World Championship alongside both Drivers and Constructors Cups are now known as the WDC and the WCC

Format

  • 16 Races
    • Pre-Qualifying (if applicable): 1 session of 1-hour qualifying held on Thursday/Friday, worst-performed teams within 12 months must pre-qualify in order to entered the race weekend
    • Practice: 2 sessions of 1.45-hour free practice held on Friday and Saturday each
    • Qualifying: 2 sessions of 1-hour qualifying held on Friday and Saturday each after the free practices
    • Main Race: Full-length race at approx. 300 kilometres + 1 lap. Held on Sunday

    • Survival cell now covers the front of driver's feet

  • Concorde Agreement

As part of the new F1 World Championship, a Concorde agreement formed by Bernie Ecclestone and Max Mosley are imposed to create rule standards for the Formula 1

  • Races are no longer held continously over a 7 month period
  • Every Session now started at set official time
  • Formula 1 is now an official business under its own standard, while governing the FIA regulations
  • Private entries are now banned
  • Tracks
    • All circuits must matched their track to the standard and regulations'
    • Pit lane minimum width imposed of 10 metres
