Format

  • 19 Races
    • Practices: 3 sessions of 90-minutes free practice, two held on Friday and one on Saturday
    • Qualifying: 1 session of qualifying to determaine Main Race grid. Held on Saturday after Free practice 3
    • Main Race: Full-length race at approx. 300 kilometres + 1 lap. Held on Sunday

Technical Changes

  • Diffuser
    • Maximum Height reduced from 175mm (6.9in) to 125mm (4.9in)
    • Double Diffusers and Double Exhaust-Blown Diffusers
      • Banned
  • F-Duct
    • Banned
  • DRS
    • Added
      • Can be activated after two laps of a race on designated area when there is a car ahead within 1 second gap
      • When activated, the nadjustable rear wing flap opens. Effectively reduce drag and increased speed
        • DRS has unlimited usage in Free Practies and qualifying
        • DRS cannot be activated on wet conditions
        • Deactivates when brake
      • From Canada Canada onwards, a second DRS zone is added
  • Wheel tethers
    • Doubled to increase safety
  • Aerodynamics
    • Various small devices from 2010 are now banned
  • KERS
    • Now optional instead of mandatory
  • Weight
    • Minimum car weight increased from 620kg (1,367lb) to 640kg (1,411lb)
  • Gearboxes
    • Each gearbox must be able to last for 5 races instead of 4
      • Additionally, a gearbox that can be changed without any penalty is given

  • Qualifying
    • The 107% rule is reintroduced
    • Drivers that failed to set a lap time within the 107% of fastest Q1 lap will not be allowed to start the race
      • However, an expcetion can be made if the 107% cannot be achieved due to an acceptable reason
  • Team Orders
    • Banned
    • Fines increased from maximum $100,000 USD to $250,000 USD
  • Driving Standards
    • Number of blocking moves during an overtaking attempt is now limited
      • During South Korea South Korea, the defending driver are obligated to leave enough space equates to a 1 car width on the outside of a corner for the driver that attempts overtake
      • Stewards can now handed reprimands which acts a warning for the driver, and will be granted grid penalty if a driver recieved three of it
  • Curfews
    • Added
      • During the curfew, teams are banned from accessing the track 9 hours ahead of each day's first session
      • Each team will have 4 exceptions that can be used during the season
        • Any extra exception request will result in a pti lane start
  • Misc
    • Any team members considered in a key role now required a competitor staff license
