2017 Formula One World Championship is the 68th season of the Formula One World Championship recognised by the FIA. This season marks the first season under the new ownership Liberty Media.

  • 20 Races
    • Practices: 3 sessions of 90-minutes free practice, two held on Friday and one on Saturday
    • Qualifying: 1 session of qualifying to determaine Main Race grid. Held on Saturday after Free practice 3
    • Main Race: Full-length race at approx. 300 kilometres + 1 lap. Held on Sunday

New Technical Regulation

  • Bodywork
    • Overall Car Width increased from 1,800 to 2,000 mm
    • Bodywork Width increased from 1,4000 to 1,600 mm
    • Front wing width increased from 1,650 to 1,800 mm
    • Rear wing width lowered from 950 to 800 mm
    • Rear wing placement moved backwards by 200 mm
    • Rear diffuser height increased from 125 to 175 mm
    • Rear diffuser width increased from 1,000 to 1,050
    • Rear diffuser leading edge placement moved from the centre line at the rear wheel to 175 mm ahead
    • Bargeboards leading edge brought forward to allow more airflo control
    • Tyre width increased by 25%
      • Front width increased from 245 to 305 mm
      • Rear width increased from 325 to 405 mm
      • Tyre diameters increased from 660 to 670 mm
    • Minimum weight (include driver) increased from 702 to 728kg
    • Maximum fuel increased from 100 to 105 kg


  • T-Wing
    • New aerodynamic part mounted above and ahead of rear wing


  • Development
    • Token system scrapped
    • Teams are now limited to 4 power units per season overall
      • Restrictions will be placed on the design and material used to build each component for a power unit
      • Power Unit supply cost reduced by €1,000,000 USD
    • Cameras mounted on the nose of the car are now banned

Sporting Changes

  • Penalties
    • Teams are now allowed only 1 new component over the quota per race
      • Any extra components will increased the penalties
  • Power Units
    • Suppliers will now have an obligation to supply to any team. In case a team end up with no agreement
  • Wet Race
    • When declared and required a safety car start, the grid will follow standard procedures until conditions are capable of racing
      • Laps behind safety car still count towards the full race distance


  • Misc
    • From Spain Spain onwards, teams now required to display a driver's name and number on the bodywork that is clearly visible to spectators
      • Teams can opted to use the official callsigns (3-letter short name) instead
