00:00Michelle Obama and Mia Garth with the Kletos, and now, Jimmy Kimmel!
00:10I'm glad you're in a good mood after, um, you know, I have to say,
00:39this is the kind of weekend that makes you wonder if things will ever feel good again.
00:43We had a, uh, shooting, a tragic and horrific shooting at a Hanukkah celebration in Australia.
00:48We had another senseless, uh, school shooting at this time at Brown University, and here in Los
00:54Angeles, the murder of one of our greatest directors and patriots, Rob Reiner, and his
00:58wife, Michelle Reiner. And what we need in a time like this, besides common sense when it comes to
01:04guns and mental health care, is compassion and leadership. We did not get that from our
01:11president because he has none of it to give. Instead, we got a fool rambling about nonsense.
01:17We got a brief moment of respect for our friends in Australia. We got a brief moment of condolence,
01:22followed by a things happen for the students at Brown. And for Rob and Michelle Reiner, we got this,
01:27post. A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling,
01:33but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife,
01:38Michelle, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive unyielding and incurable
01:46affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as Trump derangement syndrome, sometimes referred to
01:53as TDS. He was known to have driven people crazy by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump,
02:00with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump administration surpassed all goals and
02:06expectations of greatness. And with the golden age of America upon us, perhaps like never before,
02:12may Rob and Michelle rest in peace. Just when you think he can't go any lower,
02:17he somehow finds a way to do that. His description of what happened,
02:22of course, is not at all what happened. This is exactly what I've spoken about before,
02:26this rush to pin the tail on the donkey in pursuit of the Trump-friendly narrative,
02:31not to mention blaming his death on the fact that he is an outspoken liberal,
02:37insulting someone who's just been murdered, who leaves children behind,
02:41without having any idea of what actually happened. It's so hateful and vile. When I first saw it,
02:46I thought it was fake. My wife showed it to me this morning, like, well, and even for him,
02:49that seemed like too much, but nothing is ever too much for him. Of course, you won't see the Fox
02:55News gang screaming about this one, but a couple of Republicans did to their credit, two of them,
02:59I think. And so a few hours later, a White House reporter gave Trump the chance to take another shot,
03:05to act like a human being. A number of Republicans have announced your statement
03:11on Truth Social after the murder of Rob Reiner. Do you stand by that post?
03:14Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned. He said
03:20that he likely knew it was false. In fact, it's the exact opposite, that I was a friend of Russia,
03:27controlled by Russia. You know, it was the Russia hoax. He was one of the people behind it. I think he
03:32hurt himself career-wise. He became like a deranged person. Trump derangement syndrome. So I was not a
03:39fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape, or form. I thought he was very bad for our country guy.
03:44That corroded brain is in charge of our lives. If you voted for that, it's okay to reconsider. It's
03:55perfectly fine. And I have to say, I know from my personal interactions with Rob Reiner that he
04:02would want us to keep pointing out the loathsome atrocities that continue to ooze out of this sick
04:07and irresponsible man's mouth. And so we're going to do that over and over again until the rest of us
04:13wake up. And then... And then, maybe the craziest part, then he goes about his day celebrating
04:22Christmas, of all things. This is how he behaves at Christmas time. So the Trumps are hosting multiple
04:28Christmas events at the Lighthouse this week. Yesterday, after briefly mentioning the shootings
04:33in Australia and at Brown, he got distracted by a familiar-looking woman in the crowd.
04:37Then we have a man who, to me, this is the most interesting story. What do you look like, Ivanka?
04:43Has anyone ever told you that? I'm looking... I'm saying, is that Ivanka? Could you just turn
04:48around for the camera? Does she look... Does she look like Ivanka? It's the most unbelievable thing.
04:54So I wouldn't... I didn't want to take a chance. I say, is that Ivanka? You look just like Ivanka,
05:00which is a great compliment, actually. What stage of dementia is not recognizing the
05:04daughter you are physically attracted to. Eleven? And again, this was a Christmas...
05:12This was a Christmas party for supporters and staff. Trump bing-bonged from random topic to random
05:18topic until finally settling into a six-minute rant about snakes in Peru.
05:24Peru. A rather rough place in terms of physical creatures crawling around. 28,000 people die a
05:31year from a steak bite. Even if you have the venom, you don't live. They lift the rice and the this and
05:36the that out of the water. They get hit by a viper. And it is vicious. Like, boom, bop, bop, bop. The viper missed
05:43him. It hit his jacket and spread all of the venom all over the place. But that wasn't good enough for the
05:49viper. The viper hit him a second time. Teeth like this, this, those fangs. I'm fascinated by stories
05:55of wildlife. The black mamba, the brown mamba, and the viper from Peru. It's unbelievable. The power
06:02is incredible of animals. Look how quiet everybody is. That's because we can't believe you're the
06:08president. He spoke... He went on for six minutes about vipers. He claimed snake bites in Peru killed
06:1528,000 people a year. You know how many fatal snake bites they had in Peru over a 15-year period?
06:21I looked it up. Ten. They had ten in 15 years. Not 420,000. What is going on? Did someone give him a
06:31White House screening of Anaconda this weekend? He's out of his mind. He's talking about Melania. He's trying
06:37to give her a compliment. She's behind him looking like she's about to throw up. He talked about how much
06:42Melania loves children and then seemed to forget they have one together. She loves children and
06:48she's, uh, she's got a wonderful boy and she's very proud of her boy. Well, I'm sure he just misspoke.
06:55I'm sure he must know that Baron is his son too. She has a wonderful son that she loves
07:03probably more than anybody, including me. I hate to say it, but, uh, she loves her son. No,
07:09that's your son. Do you know that's also your son? That's how the First Lady got involved. She's
07:17got a son. Do you know anything about your son? Baron is very tall. Okay. All right. Well,
07:26that's something. Is there a Nobel Prize for fatherhood? Because he deserves it. On Saturday,
07:33Trump was at the Army-Navy football game where he made history becoming the first sitting president
07:39ever to not know how to toss a coin. Army, what is your call? Tails. Tails has been called. Mr. President,
07:47would you do the honor? It's like he released an imaginary dove. Let's look at that again.
08:03Yeah. When Eric was a baby, this is how he would throw nickels into his mouth. There's no flip to
08:10that coin flip. I think we just figured out why he bankrupted those casinos. This is another one of
08:17those things you can't believe is real. The Trump administration right now, I guess they've run out
08:20of disadvantaged people to attack. They are going after sign language. The National Association for the
08:26Deaf is suing the Trump administration because they cut all the sign language interpreters. You know how
08:31they'd have those interpreters doing ASL during his speeches so the hearing impaired could follow
08:36along with how stupid he is too? They got rid of him. The White House claims using an interpreter
08:43would severely intrude on the president's prerogative to control the image he presents
08:48to the public. The real story is Trump got sick of the interpreters doing this with their hands.
08:53And Merry Christmas. Speaking with you, there are only nine days left until Christmas Day,
09:05and we have something fun to celebrate tonight. Well, let's go out first out to Hollywood Boulevard
09:10to see. Oh, hey, Guillermo. How are you? Doing good, Jimmy. Oh, Guillermo is here. Guillermo,
09:16are you sensing a high level of holiday cheer on the boulevard tonight? Yeah, Jimmy, everybody looks
09:21so happy getting ready for the holidays. We even got a Christmas tree over there in the back. Oh, yes,
09:26we got a beautiful, that is the tallest tree on the west coast. Hi there. Hi. Sylvester Stallone is
09:32visiting. Okay. Hi, folks. How are you? Merry Christmas to you. Happy holidays. Hey, is that a

09:42family. Can you come over here, please? Yeah, come over here, please. Yes, come over here, please. Can
09:48they hear me? I don't know if they can hear me, Guillermo. Okay, this is like a maze. All right,
09:54that guy maybe is not in the family or is in the family. No, I don't think he's in the family,
09:59Jimmy. Okay, all right. Maybe we'd like to be part of the family. Okay. Hi, how are you? Hi,
10:05what is your name? My name is Megan Nelson. Hi, Megan. How old is your baby? She is two months old.
10:12He's two months old. Oh, that's a lot of fun on Christmas, right? Right. Now, should a two-month-old
10:18be out on Hollywood Boulevard? We've got every disease imaginable out there. Well, that is true.
10:24Uh, hi, family. Are you guys one family? Yes, yes. What is your last name? What's your last name?
10:31Nelson. Nelson. All right, the Nelson family. Have you taken your official family Christmas photo yet?
10:37No. No. Okay, would you like to take a Sears portrait studio caliber photo here
10:43in our studio with me tonight? Yeah. Okay, great. Guillermo, escort the Nelsons in here.
10:49Follow me. Yeah, come on in.
10:55Yeah, take the... Okay, all right. All right, so what we have is we've got a whole Winter Wonderland photo
11:02set here. Isn't it beautiful? It's like the price is right, except we're not going to give any of this
11:08stuff. Oh, wait. We're going to keep the stuff, but all right. Well, let's see. We'll get the family
11:14here, and Guillermo is going to escort them. All right. Oh, okay. Here they are. All right. Very
11:24good. Hi, everybody. How are you? How are you doing? Merry Christmas. Please come back here. How you
11:31doing? Welcome, welcome, welcome. Hi there. How are you? How are you? How are you? How are you? All right.
11:40Oh, we have some... We have some... You got... You want, um, Christmas hats? You celebrate Christmas?
11:47You want to put on a Christmas hat? All right. You want one? All right. There you go. We'll make it
11:53festive. Oh, okay. I'll get... Oh, you know what? All right. Well, God, this one might be big for the
11:57baby, but you want me to help you with this? All right. Okay. All right. There we go. You want one? Oh,
12:02for the baby? You want a hand? Can I hold the baby? You want? Yeah, okay. All right. I'm going to put the
12:09hand on, and I'll hold the baby. That way it seems like I'm part of the family. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
12:15Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
12:21Okay. Come in a little closer to me here. You up? What if we lose the talk? Okay. All right. So, let's get in place. Guillermo, are you going to take a photo? Are you guys ready? All right.
12:31All right.
12:33I think... I think my head... I think my head got cut off on that. Yeah. You know what? This is good. I feel like we're missing something, though. Um, I feel... What should we do? We got to...
12:43Um, I feel like... What should we do? We got to jazz this up a little, Guillermo. We are. We're missing somebody. Oh.
12:47Oh, my God.
12:51Oh, my God.
12:55Oh, my God.
12:57Oh, my God.
12:59Oh, my God.
13:01Oh, my God.

13:39Ella.
13:40Ella.

14:51This is her newest number one bestseller.

15:12How you doing?
15:13Thank you for being part of the Nelsons family Christmas card.
15:20I mean, what a family.
15:22Picture perfect.
15:23And they're military family, right?
15:25Army, yeah.
15:26Yeah.
15:27Yes, that's right.
15:28Yeah.
15:29Veterans, yeah.
15:30Make sure to thank them for their service.
15:32Beautiful, beautiful family.
15:33And I was excited to be a part of that.
15:34So.
15:35I'm glad you were.
15:36How many cards do the Obamas send out for Christmas?
15:38You know, we checked.
15:39It's over 100,000.
15:40No.
15:41Of some of our closest friends and family.
15:42But that incorporates friends, family, business people,
15:45foundation people.
15:46So it's a lot of folks.
15:47Yeah.
15:48Yeah.
15:49Yeah.
15:50Yeah.
15:51Yeah.
15:52Yeah.
15:53Yeah.
15:54Yeah.
15:55Yeah.
15:56Yeah.
15:57Yeah.
15:58Yeah.
15:59Yeah.
16:00Yeah.
16:01Yeah.
16:02Yeah.
16:03Yeah.
16:04Yeah.
16:05Yeah.
16:06Yeah.
16:07Yeah.
16:09Yeah.
16:11Yeah.
16:12Yeah.
16:13That's a lot of folks that we want to thank.
16:14Do you have to pay for postage?
16:15Or is that...?
16:16I...
16:17You have no idea?
16:18No.
16:19No, I know.
16:20Wow.
16:21Do you guys exchange gifts, family-wise?
16:22We...
16:23You know what, I do.
16:24You do.
16:25What does that mean?
16:26You give the gifts?
16:27Or you receive the gifts?
16:28We get...
16:29Everybody gets a gift.
16:30I'm generally the one who's orchestrating it.
16:32Because, you know, it's like our girls.
16:33They...
16:34You know, they don't have any money.
16:35We're like,
16:36us a gift like we know it's ours yeah my kids do that too and they don't and they want credit for
16:43it and they don't really even do anything for it they don't they don't yeah it's a bad message
16:48isn't it but but we do extra we christmas is huge i am a big christmas person so in the morning we
16:55wake up we have brunch we have friends over we read a letter from santa we open the gifts all
17:02of that who writes the letter from santa uh my uh sister-in-law's ex-husband really yes let's not
17:13let's don't ask anymore but he is my ex-brother-in-law but he writes the santa
17:19letter does your husband get you good gifts he does because does he have a consultant
17:24meredith coop my stylist i see you know he tried for a few years early on in our lives and you know
17:31i yeah i would open it up and oh yeah you tried have you ever returned one of his gifts i have
17:38never returned it but there were times when i just he would just never see it again you didn't return it
17:45because he would pout or do you know it's just the sentimental value it's the effort oh there oh would
17:52you talk to my wife molly if mine are like i might as well get her a boomerang because it goes right
18:01it's going right back in the white house days how many can you guess at how many holiday parties
18:08you'd go to during the month of december it was numbers it was weeks and weeks of holiday parties
18:15and there would be two or three a day and then the big one would end in the evening where there
18:22would be thousands of people that would come and we would stand in the dip room and take photos for
18:28three hours straight three hours every time four weeks yeah it's like being santa at the mall it
18:34is it is and i find myself apologizing because you're supposed to be upstairs dancing and singing
18:39and drinking and you're standing in line waiting to see us it just seems so unfair yeah what is
18:45it seems like womp womp and a picture have you been any public places that where people haven't recognized
18:52you in the last 10 years plenty yeah yeah i mean i fly commercial sometimes i'm driving now see the
19:01thing what we realized is that it's not me it's the secret service that usually tips people off ah
19:07because you're walking along and some big guy goes wait stop and they're not paying attention they look
19:13up it's like why first of all why are you touching me and then they look on and then it's me so what
19:18we've learned our team is that if we just everybody just quiets down if i put on a cap
19:24if i've got on a a lululemon something or other i blend in with all the other ladies and here's the
19:31thing people you all aren't looking at anybody you know everybody's on their phone these days so it's
19:36very easy for me to get around because nobody's looking at anybody else can i ask you about driving
19:43because that really interests me that you're driving when did you start driving again uh this
19:48the summer before last and i only am allowed to really drive on martha's vineyard which is a small
19:54island and there's there's no highways and i can you know they're following me there's somebody in
20:03front there's somebody in the back i mean it's kind of like you're pretend driving you know it's like
20:09yeah disneyland but i'm alone in the car by myself i can roll the windows down which i can't do in the
20:16car i i haven't had a window open in our cars because that is dangerous apparently it's like
20:21what's the point of securing you if you've got the window down just hanging out you know they want you
20:26in and the other thing that i realized that i hadn't done since the girls were adults that there was
20:33one day that malia and i got in the car together just the two of us and she was on the radio on the
20:41on the playing music and we were alone together in a car was that weird for her to see you behind
20:47the wheel of a car was were you behind me before remember i you know it wasn't until later that we
20:53became us oh okay yeah but she was little though right she was 10 7. all right yes did you remember
21:00how to do it yeah it's like riding a bike i'm pretty good at it you know i think everybody was nervous
21:06they're still kind of nervous when they get in the car because it's just that it's like do you
21:09know what you're doing and these cars are different there are no keys this is how i think
21:15about it yes the technology is very different it is very different so it took a while it takes me a
21:21second to sort of how does this thing work you know how to use it hook up out of this and barack
21:27is driven he's driven really twice yeah and does he get excited too yes we do it's just like
21:33normalcy is exciting and it's crazy it sounds crazy but we did some of our best days driving
21:40alone in the car i bet i bet i love to drive i can't imagine losing that you are you do a podcast
21:46with your brother craig who's a great guy who seems like a great guy he was here one time you guys have
21:50fun doing that right we have so much fun um i probably wouldn't do it if i weren't doing it with him
21:57i like to do things in community so the note you know our higher ground team said you know it'd be
22:01great if you did a podcast and i was like well just me talking to people that seems so lonely
22:06and then uh our producer said what about craig because everybody everybody loves my brother he's
22:10just amazing yeah he's very likable he's so likable and i was like yeah that would be fun and it was
22:15right around the time that we lost our mom so it really felt like a way for us to keep honoring her
22:23um because we now are working together on a regular basis and she would like that and we're we're forced to
22:29see one another on a regular basis not like we have to force it but it's scheduled it's work yeah
22:35and so his kids come to some of the tapings and so it's really really fun you guys had cat williams
22:44oh my gosh if you haven't seen this podcast cat williams the comedian um i can't believe he passed
22:51the security check just to start that is quite a guest for you guys he you know you heard the
22:59podcast right yeah i mean his story of how he came to be i mean he left home at 12 years old you guys
23:05have got to hear this podcast through it all i was like cat you're lying to me because i was like if
23:10you're lying to me i'm the former first lady if you're making up this life story i'm gonna really be
23:15mad um but he's funny his perspective his experience i mean that's what i like about uh
23:23the podcast because you have time we have hours to really unwind people's lives and eventually
23:29people start to loosen up and they they stop thinking it's me right and we get into a really
23:36really good conversation so it's so much fun for the both of us just spending time with people
23:41we wouldn't otherwise get a chance to talk to maybe you will come and i would love to i would
23:46love to spend some time with you i want molly more so oh yeah maybe you just maybe you just want molly
23:52but that would be a good opportunity for you to talk to her about the gifts and about gratitude
24:00um i i also i feel like i should bring up i know you and your husband were friends with
24:06rob and michelle reiner and um i'm very sorry for your loss
24:10oh my god how long have you known the reiners we've known them for many many years and we were
24:16supposed to be seeing them that night um last night um and we got the news and let me just say this
24:24unlike some people uh rob and michelle reiner are some of the most decent courageous people you ever
24:32want to know um they are not they're not deranged or crazed what they what they have always been
24:43are passionate people in a time when they're not there's not a lot of courage going on they were
24:49the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about um and they
24:55cared about their family and they cared about this country and they cared about fairness and equity
25:00um and that is the truth i do know them
25:04michelle obama we'll be right back
25:15i love you but hold on i heard you girl just just settle down i'm here to talk to everybody not just you
25:30i mean you look cute
25:35but i am married michelle's fine too
25:44you know people love the guy what are you gonna do what are you gonna do do you guys make fun of
25:49him when that stuff happens oh my god yeah we the girls and i we make fun of him every second
25:56we get i mean poor guy you know he needs to go out there to build himself up because he
26:02comes back home and we're like oh what's what's that you know is he upset that he never got to
26:08green light a rush hour movie or have a ufc fight on the white house lawn you know
26:16it's gotta be really you look back and go i could have done that that would have been great you know
26:20that's what i say you know that i thought there were rules and norms and standards but
26:26you've written a book that is
26:32about my passion fashion yes yes as we all know is it strange to you that people are so interested in
26:39the clothes that you wear no i mean you know first ladies throughout history um their style their
26:47approach to you know there's a mystique to the first lady and right now it's still just a first lady
26:53um you know to all that behind the scenes because you know only a handful of people in the history of
27:00the country have served in that role so and how we show up in the world you know although the first
27:07lady's role we are not celebrities but there is sort of that otherness quality that you know you
27:14can't deny and so you know you go to any presidential library and oftentimes the most
27:20popular exhibit is what the first lady wore the inaugural gown the i guess it's our princess moment
27:27you know here in in did you save all that stuff all that yeah yeah i mean all the clothes that had
27:34impact um uh get donated by the designer to the white house uh historical association so it's saved to
27:43be archived uh for the presidential library and the obama presidential center will open up in june
27:53so many exhibits there'll be a model oval office but also many of the fashions that i wore will be
28:02displayed there barack may have a tan suit i think that was the biggest those mom jeans will they be
28:10in there oh you know you gotta get those gonna get those absolutely and um and you've got stories in
28:17here too well it's more story um you know the book is a beautiful collection of photos and i wanted the
28:25photos to be alive not just me standing in a dress but what i was doing in those dresses um but there's
28:32also a story behind it you know what does it take for women to show up the way we need to in the world
28:39and what does that say about our culture what does that say about about self-esteem um and the journey
28:46that many of us as women find ourselves in because we're often judged first and foremost by how we're we
28:52look and one of the things that i say in the book is that when somebody wants to go after a woman to
28:57make her feel small surprisingly they still go after how she looks um because that's how we're defined
29:05so what does that mean for us how do we take control over that how do we turn that into power
29:11um and reclaim our our value there's a good story about the first time you met oprah and um
29:17uh misunderstanding is that a way to describe it well it really wasn't it was a typical oprah gesture
29:25um before we were ourselves and just coming up oprah you know heard about barack and wanted to feature
29:33him in o magazine so she came to our home you know and showed up with oprah and a camera crew and that's
29:40when i started thinking huh this must be a thing what he's doing this politics and after
29:47you know because oprah paid attention in our house so she's in our house and i'm running around
29:54because i've got a job and kids and i threw on some capris and a sweater and that's what i had on
29:59i didn't get my makeup done because i didn't really know you needed makeup i mean that's where i was wow
30:05so afterwards you know and we talked about this it's like now i'm becoming a public figure and how
30:10do you figure out how to get yourself dressed and have time for all that there's a whole chapter on that
30:16well as a typical oprah way of thanking us she sends me a steamer trunk full of ralph lauren's
30:26sort of line of clothes that was her thank you gift to me and you imagine i felt like the
30:31oprah people when that when i got it was a trunk full of suits and sweaters and i was like i get a
30:39sweater and i had a sweater and i was like oh my god it's christmas right so i'm in our little
30:47apartment and barack comes in and he goes we're not keeping that i was like what what well because
30:55he was in office and here you go um according at least how we rolled is that when you're in office
31:02you don't accept gifts right there's a happy ending to that story because that happened at the
31:15end of his state senate run he left the state senate ran for the u.s senate there was a period of time
31:21when he was not in office and oprah sent the clothes back
31:31you can't beat oprah you really can't
31:33you can't beat oprah when you were a kid you had certain style icons i did and these are unusual style
31:41icons one of them is something oh people of our age one of them is somebody that people of our age
31:48would know this is uh theresa graves from the show get christy love man she was a police action
31:55hero yeah gorgeous i used to watch this show 1974 yes yeah beautiful one brave and tough but sexy
32:05and when i was little i always wanted a pair of white go-go boots like theresa graves but get them
32:11no because i my mother was marion robinson we lived in chicago she was practical she was like
32:17you can't wear those in the snow so what i got were the ugly rubber boots that you fit over your
32:22your shoe oh yeah yeah i bet oprah will get them for you and this one is fantastic this is this is the
32:31flip side of my character this is jose cardinal first baseman for the chicago cubs i had the biggest
32:39crush on him so my the flip side of my personality was go-go boots but i had a big brother so i was also a
32:46tomboy because i had to keep up what he learned to do i learned to do and i love to play baseball
32:53so i like to in the summers get my little afro put on a cap pick it out like jose cardinal get go to
33:03bat he was my hero and i think a lot of it was tied to my relationship to my dad because he was a
33:09shift worker and there would be times he'd get home in the afternoon and the cubs played on wgn at three
33:16o'clock and i come home from school and sit down on his lap and by by the time i got home jose was up to
33:23bat um so there's also that sentimentality that is linked to that to that uh feeling for jose and i i
33:33finally got to meet him in our last term the cubs won the world series that's right yes
33:44and they came to the white house and jose cardinal came and i'm first lady and i can walk up to him
33:52and tell him this story about how i loved him and he cried and it was just amazing it was a full circle
34:00fashion moment people that's all right here in the look it is available now michelle obama everybody
34:30our next guest is a talented actress who goes toe to surgically attached toe with the creature she
34:40loves in guillermo del turro's frankenstein you can see it on netflix now please welcome mia goth
34:59how are you i'm good how are you i'm doing great thank you i know you are from london right yes
35:05yes london so were you like are you even old enough to remember when the obama's president obama was
35:12elected yeah okay yeah yeah i was in london at the time and i remember trying to stay up to you know
35:18hear what the results were going to be and oh i remember falling asleep and then waking up in the
35:22morning and checking the time and then i ran over to my television and i turned it on and i saw that
35:27verac obama had won and it was amazing it was such a special moment and really kind of the first
35:32time in my life that i was you know politically aware yeah yeah what else were you into at that age
35:39well um amy winehouse oh yeah yeah yeah yeah i was you know there were people that liked amy
35:50winehouse there were people that loved amy winehouse and then there was me and so you know i was a
35:59complete fanatic and i would dress like her i would do my eyeliner like her really i would have
36:06my ballet flats like her and then one day somehow i discovered where she lived
36:13and i thought to myself brilliant and i went there for years and i would go with a friend i had maybe
36:23three four friends that i rotated around and then they would come up to camden with me and we would
36:28just sit there on the stoop and it was me and maybe five ten other people at a time and it got to a
36:34point where i was so determined to see amy winehouse that i decided that we had to start camping outside
36:41of our house and and so we would buy like a loaf of bread and some milk and we would get all like
36:48settled in and cozy up in the on the stoop and and i never saw her
36:55and you know it got to a point where i was like okay well i'm gonna go to amy winehouse's house this
36:58saturday you know it was my it was my hobby you know some people cook some people play guitar
37:04and i would go to amy winehouse's house it was my thing um did you ever think about uh going to
37:11see her in concert no no no and did you like knock on the door i would knock on the door oh i would knock
37:23on the door did she like that well there was one time the one time that no one decided to come with
37:28me i thought you know what i'm just gonna do it on my own so i go there and there's no one there
37:33and i think to myself okay so then i go and i knock on the door and and she answers she answers on
37:42her little uh monitor and she says hello and i can't believe she's and then she's there so i say hi amy
37:49and i didn't expect her to pick up so i just said i've got your guitar and she's like what and she
37:55hung up but it was everything i ever needed and by the way frankenstein is great you did a great job
38:08and i have to tell you something i didn't realize that you play two roles in the movie yeah i knew you
38:16played the main one but i did not know you're playing the mom also yeah and originally when i
38:22had met guillermo del toro um about the project he offered me three roles oh wow yeah yeah so we met
38:28over an omelet and we were talking and he said what do you think of the script and i said it's incredible
38:32guillermo it's everything you'd want it to be and he said do you want to be elizabeth i said sure
38:37and claire okay and justine sure and and and i walked away from a meeting with guillermo del toro with
38:44three roles it was three roles that's all that seems like did you get three salaries or did you
38:49just get the one just the one but i would have paid him to have done it it is interesting it's almost
38:54like eddie murphy meet the clumps or something you play all those roles so you play three roles in the
39:00film well it was going to be three but then we had to cut justine out just to keep the movie i see okay
39:06all right well that's you know what that's good because yeah if another actor had played that role
39:11they would have been very very disappointed but for you no big deal you got two already yeah
39:16well have you been to guillermo del toro at his home has a frankenstein room yes and this is i've
39:23actually been to this room did he take you there yeah okay describe what this room is like
39:31i was speechless i've never seen any house room like this i mean he has um a statue of mary shelley he
39:38has um the creature's head um huge creature's head yeah and but you know just the whole house
39:46it was just unbelievable and you really get an insight into guillermo and who he is and what
39:52you know excites him and inspires him and i mean it was it was amazing it really is something else yeah
39:58it's i mean he loves this so intensely more intensely than i think any i've ever seen anybody love
40:04anything really right yeah all the the props and the objects and he believes in ghosts you know you
40:09know he was you know this i assume yes yes and he's dying to see a ghost yes yes did he express this
40:16to you as well yes well you know we were filming in scotland and we were in a small town in aberdeen and
40:22and he's you know he had the option of like staying at you know a hilton or something like that or this
40:27other hotel which was really haunted and he decided to stick his whole crew in the haunted
40:33oh yeah naturally yeah um and you had to stay in the haunted hotel yeah we all stayed in the haunted
40:39yeah yeah were you were you wishing that you'd been in the non-haunted hotel no because i'm desperate
40:45to see a ghost too oh you are yeah yeah that's why he gave you three roles yeah you guys are on the
40:52same wavelength i'm desperate to never see a ghost i heard a creaking in my room one time i was i think
40:58i was like washing brushing my teeth or something and i heard a creak and i thought to myself it's
41:02happening but then that was it turned out to just be an intruder well congratulations on the on the
41:11movie and uh working with guillermo and uh doing such a great job it's called frankenstein if you've
