Roots Strong is a powerful instrumental tune and it is the last release of 2021 on the label. Produced by the UK producer I-niverse and the Colombian melodica player Dub Idren, it is presented in two versions. This is the last release of 2021 and it will be available on all online stores & streaming platforms.

Dub Idren: Reggae artist located in Colombia. This project was born in 2019, with the aim of merging Caribbean reggae with sounds from his land, to give an experience full of delight and rhythm for extremely fine ears, manifesting through deep melodies a unique sensation, which will make you connect with your inner self in a mental and spiritual way, with a powerful energy that transmits the message of unity.

I-niverse: Selector and roots, reggae dub producer spreading the message of peace, love & unification through the works. I-niverse’s sound takes you on an uplifting spiritual journey, driven by pulsating weighty bass lines and majestic melodies that send positive vibrations to the heart and help one to experience states of inner peace. Hailing from the UK, I-niverse has releases with the likes of Earl 16, Amelia Harmony, Sista Sherin, Zion Irie and Murray Man’s Mellow Vibes.

Roadblock Dub Collective - Suwarnadub

Mid 2000s saw the beginning of the Roadblock Dub Collective. At that time, Iday & Sam settled in the same residence for their work at a local production house in the city of Tanjungkarang (Lampung). They had previously known each other, as fellow musicians from the Lampung scene. Iday is one of the founders of “Pimps,” the first Industrial outfit in Lampung. Together with “Pimps” he had released an album titled “Set Lampung on Fire!” in 2000. Meanwhile, Sam previously was a member of “Shooter Water,” Rocksteady-Ska music unit that is part of the “Pelita Crew” (one of the melting pots for many Lampung musicians in the late 1990s) and he released an album called “As Steady As A Rock” in 2001.

Roadblock Dub Collective was born after they used to share playlists between their working hours. Also shared insights into music production as part of their current job. Starting from the use of software, to the flow of a composition. They had released several bootlegs and remixes which were often played by local DJs at that time. Until 2009, they released their first single “Youth Culture“. A single that later brought them connected with many electronic music and Jamaican sound scenesters in the country.

The single “Youth Culture” itself indirectly encouraged them to have more intense interactions with several bedroom electronic musicians/producers in Lampung. Collectively, they often hold sets of electronic shows in various places, from music workshops at school to headliners at the biggest rave in Lampung at that time, The Beats Of Sumatera.

Having been on hiatus due to Iday & Sam moving out to different cities, Roadblock Dub Collective has just re-released their works “Mukadimah” (2015), and “Rua Jurai Echoes” (2016) for free and limited. Having held an independent mini tour in 2017, they released “Dutty Bizness” with InBassion Recs (Bass music label from Bogota, Colombia).

At this moment, Roadblock Dub Collective often shares the stage with many Indonesian dub acts, from the likes of Mantasticmate, Anjing Dub, Baxlaxboy, Radit Echoman, and Yella Sky Sound System. Together with these names they were also involved in a various artist album project; “Nusantara Dub Connection” in 2019. In this project Roadblock Dub Collective released “Intercity Dub“. Then, in June 2020, they released the single set “Sepinggungan/Russ” a collaboration with Terranova Waksman and Oddateee, a release supported by 100ribu recs. Still in the same year, Roadblock Dub Collective was involved in other various artist album projects. This time a project initiated by “Echo Chambers” (one of the oldest reggae radio shows in the United States) in collaboration with Dandada Records, a cutting edge dub music imprint from Portugal. In the project “Echo Chamber – Around The World In Dub Vol 11 & 12“, Roadblock released “Puaghi 45” along with many Dub acts worldwide.

Their first ep on Dubophonic Records is entitled Suwarnadub and it consists of six tracks: two vocal tracks (Ngelajau Dub & Achtung! Ghetto Lioness) in a fine style fusing Dancehal with Hip Hop, two dub mixes and two live dub mixes by the rising Cypriot dubmaster Sub Conscious Dub.

Messian Dread - Maranatha (dub & discomix)

Introducing Messian Dread, a versatile personality from the Netherlands: Producer, singer, player of instruments, writer, reviewer, selector, and editor/webmaster of DUBROOM.org, perhaps the longest running platform/netlabel, that promotes Dub Reggae and Consciousness" since 1997, where many artists have contributed to throughout the decades.

Somewhere in 1979-1980 Messian Dread discovered Reggae and especially the Dub variety. He was around 15 at that time and everything was quite different. The music and the sound was new, back then. You had the Mad Professor dubbing everyone crazy, the Scientist was introduced in the now legendary Greensleeves series. It was also the time of the extended versions aka Discomixes.

Early 1987, Messian Dread started a band and also began to experiment with dub, his great musical love. In 1997, ten years after he started to make music, Messian Dread started to publish his music world-wide through the Internet. Nowadays this seems a very normal and typical way to promote music, but back in those days with no Facebook or Soundcloud, it was not. In fact, it was frowned upon. Messian Dread can therefore be considered a pioneer in what has become normal now: independent artists producing their Dub & Reggae music online, from their heart to the heart of the listener.

His music has been played worldwide, throughout the decades. Next to his own Dubroom Label, the first chapter in the "Roots of Dub Funk" series had a quite successful track called "Jah Glory", an album called "Showcase" was released through Star Recordings and the "Dub Buds" (Phoenix Records) compilation had a track called "Transgenics Dub. Until today one of the hardest Steppa compilations ever released. or at least an online cult classic.

The music of Messian Dread is Roots Reggae. Even though he produces his music in a digital way, you'll hear his own roots are in the 1980's. Roots Reggae in the orthodox way, with conscious lyrics that often leave no question mark but definitely food for thought … and dub! It is very hard to find a vocal tune from Messian Dread and no Dub version that comes with it. In fact, one could say that Messian Dread is keeping the tradition of the 'Discomixes' where you'll get a vocal track and Dub version in one long mix alive. His obsession with long mixes comes from the 1980's you remember them too, the 12" versions, and he has always loved the extended versions in Reggae and also in the electronic music.

Maranatha was originally released in 2007 as a free download and we are proud to present you a (F)re(e)-issue of the track as an introduction to Messian Dread’s works and as an appetizer for the releases to follow. Tune starts with Dub and militant vibe and ends with the vocals. The track was definitely inspired by the so called riots which are really uprisings that were going on in 2006. Even more today.

Roots Reggae sounds best when it is mixed in the good way. The best way to mix Roots Reggae is in Dubwise style. Messian Dread's music is pure conscious Roots Reggae, mixed with the purpose of feeling the vibe always in a deeper and deeper way the more you listen. Music to listen to. To experience.

Munay Ki Dub is an electronic dub trio, representing a new breed of dub artists. Hailing up from the mountains of central Argentina, they combine live instruments such as violin, melodica, percussion, bass and guitar with programming, effects and digital instruments. The name comes from the South American Quechua language and means “I Love Dub”.

In September 2019, Munay Ki Dub released their debut EP “MKD” with European dub label Dubophonic Records, lyrically using the English and Spanish languages as a form of political expression and social awareness/consciousness, musically gliding between digital roots reggae, dub & bass and steppa. Within the first few weeks of its release, MKD was sounding out on radios in Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Italy, Spain, UK, Ireland, Israel, Hawaii, Finland, Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, Germany, Holland, France, Australia, Canada and the US.

This is their new EP “Groove of Meditation", which includes four new tracks. It is recorded in the mythical Los Angeles studio in Traslasierra, Córdoba, Argentina, with technical production support from renowned sound engineer Felix Valls.

Eter Dub - Eternally Wise

Eter Dub was founded by the dub master Federico Balza, in Mendoza (Argentina), a graduated musician from the Universidad Nacionalde de Cuyo with studies on classical flute and member of the OrquestRa Sinfonica Juvenil (1st flute) in Argentina. As saxophonist (tenor/alt), flutist and keyboard player he collaborated with many reggae, dub and hip-hop bands like Zona Ganjah, Downbeat and Negritage touring around the independent scene of Latin America.

After releasing his first album back in 2016, entitled In Da Name Of Jah and is collaboration with Negritage on Greetings From Planet Dub, Eter Dub returns five years later with his brand new EP.

Eternally Wise offers a new fresh breeze in dub music. Just like his previous album, his sound is referencing to his background in classical music, with flute being the main instrument in his new ep.

Being accompanied by some great musicians on the oboe, guitar and drums, Eter Dub delivers four tracks of extended length, the longest being Chilling All Day Dub with over 10 minutes of length. Magical melodies and uplifting vibes, originality and an alternative approach to dub music – This is the sound of Eter Dub!

After a successful release of their previous works compilation, time has come for some new music from Muflon Dub Soundsystem. Together with the charismatic vocalist Melana, they present a new powerful song about who we are and where we are going to.

“Steppin To The Highest Region” comes in 4 different versions. All of them give you lots of Dub effects, ambient spaces, heavy drum and bass and a very slow pace. Adding strong Roots and Biblical inspiration, conscious message and heartical vocals, the release has an upful vibe, good for meditation.

Muflon Dub Soundsystem: Reggae and Dub music project from Poland, founded by Muflon Man, Dub producer, songwriter and musician. For many years delivers Roots influenced progressive music in pursuit of Heartical Sound.

Melana: singer and songwriter from Poland. Having strong musical background and variety of artistic experience (opera and theatre career included), she started to record her own songs recently. This is where she met Muflon Man. This is first fruit of their cooperation, we hope for more songs in near future.

Inspired by a strange stillness and introspectiveness that appeared to cover the world in those first weeks, Sueños is a call from within, a call to keep going, to expand, into your light. We make dreams come true.

Chebeen Teriya meets Sub Conscious Dub - Ajabro

Chebeen Teriya is a unique 5 piece band lead by singer/multi-instrumentalist Dramane Bakwan, who brings original music from his homeland of Burkina Faso. From a young age, Dramane participated in the sacred musical traditions of the Gourounsi people of Burkina Faso (West Africa). His insatiable appetite for music drove him to study the myriad of rhythms and melodies of ethnic groups throughout the region. A love of country and continent has inspired him to write over one hundred original songs with lyrics in five languages. His work explores social, environmental, and political themes with the aim of inspiring people to take care of one another and the planet they share.

Sub Conscious Dub is the project of Antreas Kassos, representing the new breed of dub producers coming from Cyprus. His talent was already recognised very early, participating in various local festivals and online events (Unity Vibes, Reggae Sunjam, Lockdowndub Weekender) and being featured in the Explorations In Dub Vol. II compilation. His dub mix of Dubmatix tune Jump And Twist has received some crazy airplay and the artist was endorsed by Dubmatix himself, including him in his Bassment Sessions radio show.

Blending West African sounds with roots reggae, “Ajabro” (which means in the African tradition “Sorcerer”, “Witch Doctor” or “The one that evil can’t hide from”) is the result of the collaborative work of those exiting new artists. The EP is the first collaboration between Cyprus and Burkina Faso. It contains “Jeune Africain” & “Terrorist”, two vocal tracks with a big social message, composed by Dramane Bakwan and written in French and in Dioula languages, as well as two heavy dubs/versions by Sub Conscious Dub. The tracks were originally recorded in Vietnam, where the artists met each other, and dubbed in Cyprus.

In May 2020, due to the restrictions, Munay Ki Dub decided to embark on its Cyber Space Tour 2020 which has seen the band participate in online festivals across South America, Asia and Europe, generating interest in local, national and international media including the BBC (UK), Página 12 (AR), La Voz del Interior (AR), and Pelagatos (regional).

Mid-way through 2020, Munay Ki Dub was nominated for the Rootstock Awards in France, having being selected by the jury alongside 23 artists from all over the world. As a result of the public vote, Munay Ki Dub emerged as winners of the Artist Awards 2020.

In September, the band held its own streaming event MKD CLUB which attracted thousands of viewers from across the globe. MKD CLUB was subsequently awarded a national arts prize by La Usina del Arte as one of the best streaming shows during the pandemic.

In June 2021, the band released a remix of Bad Bablyon by French producer Thriakis.

Currently Munay Ki Dub is preparing to release their new EP “Groove of Meditation” with Dubophonic Records, recorded in the mythical Los Angeles studio in Traslasierra, Córdoba, Argentina, with technical production support from renowned sound engineer Felix Valls.

Shanti-K meets Sister Maki - Revolution

More vibes coming from the land of the rising sun. After Botanical Story/Rudies released last year, the soundsystem family crew from Japan returns with a new composition and with a strong female representation! 

Produced by Shanti-K, the new track is entitled Revolution and it is presented on this virtual 12inch in four different versions: The title track with Sister Maki on the vocals, the obligatory dub version by Shanti-K, a special instrumental version with Aki Mittoo on the melodica and the female musician Oryo on the violin, and finally a violin/melodica dub by Shanti-K. and with Goja Bongos on the percussion.

Stefanosis - Eastward Journey Dubs

Stefanosis, the Los Angeles based multi-instrumentalist and producer, who has been crafting his musical art for over two decades, returns with his new release entitled Eastward Journey Dubs.

The EP consists of four underground reggae/dubwise dubplates, all inspired by the artist’s journey to the far east.

Muflon Dub Soundsystem - In Love With Righteousness / 2005-2014 Best Dubs Compilation

Muflon Dub Soundsystem is a musical project from Poland, delivering positive Dub and Roots Reggae inspired sounds since early 2000s, with a modern approach, lightweight harmonies, heavy drum and bass lines, simplicity with a touch of poetry, creative ideas with conscious message. 

 

The album In Love With Righteousness is a compilation of their best Dub tracks, recorded between 2005 and 2014. We can hear the evolution of their style and some of the most characteristic features of their sound (mellow vibe, steady riddim, catchy basslines, thrilling vocal lines). Most of the tracks of the compilation are included in their previous releases, which are available for free through their webpage and also on their Jamendo and Bandcamp page.

 

The album includes also Showered Ina Jah Jah Rain Dub, a previously unreleased Dub version of the tune of the same name, appearing on the album Everland. Actually, many of the songs from this compilation have their Reggae counterparts with mellow vocals and conscious lyrics, to be found in different past releases of Muflon Dub Soundsystem. What they all have in common, is the message: got to be in love with Righteousness!

Sister Maki meets Swe - Prayers

New EP coming from the Land of the Rising Sun with Sister Maki on the Vocals. The Osaka reggae singer, known through her collaboration with Dub Cmd in 2020 on Way To Zion (Pt. I & II), returns with a new EP. This time she collaborates with some great artists from her homeland Japan.

Tokiboun In Dub - Mountain Vibrations

Tokiboun in Dub is a French-Swiss producer. Reggae fan since he was 13 years old, he started to compose in 2008.  His music is generally steppa and experimental in the way of composing, with multiple influences. With participation in over 200 events travelling across Switzerland and sometimes crossing the borders of his country, sharing the stage with artists like Kimmy Gold, Cultural Warriors, Tetra Hydro K, Asher Selector, Koma Dub and an alternance of chill and electro tinted concerts, his music is definitely shaped for sound systems.

Having one album to his credit on the French label Marée Bass and being featured in compilations on diverse European labels, he continues with his first EP entitled Mountain Vibrations: a four track EP  - 2 tracks + 2 magnificent versions ft William Jacquemet on the trombone & Full Vibes on the flute! Authentic character with an unshakable joy of living and desire to share his music, Tokiboun In Dub invites us to join his musical universe. A discovery made of magic!

DubRaJah - Repatriation

DubRaJah has a unique way of blending the cultural elements from the countries he has been to, into his music. Being an anthropologist and ethnomusicologist, he has made many ethnographical expeditions in different parts of Africa, Asia and Europe, produced several films about indigenous peoples and studied their native music.

His journey on our label started in 2014 with the EP Enkang, introducing a style that fuses dub with ethnic elements, samples and recordings made through his various journeys. In 2017 came the LP Reprise and 2019 the EP Nilotic. 

 

This is his fourth release, his second album entitled Repatriation, which is a collection of music recorded between 2016 and 2020 in Arusha (Tanzania), Sauraha (Nepal) and Moscow (Russia). Strictly outernational ethnic dubwise sounds. Our favourite track: Sajenio!

iRoadie - Dub Time

IRoadie, born in The Netherlands in 1968, embraced the reggae scene at a very young age. The first lick on his guitar was Marley`s “Redemption song” at 11 years old. He spent his youth on stage and in rehearsal playing with many bands throughout the years, with rhythm guitar and roots reggae as his main focus. Working with multitrack recorders made him an independent producer and qualified broadcast studio engineer while the digital revolution enabled him a worldwide audience.

After years of manufacturing percussion instruments, studio work became his core business. Many artists visited his studio dubbing tracks. Cd productions followed in the styles of traditional Wassolon Mali music, Ska, Rock Steady and Roots Reggae. As time passed, he enjoyed many live performances and tours as guitarist and percussionist.

Fast forward to the present, iRoadie supports art students in audio visual technics, while he keeps the fire alive with a stream of new Roots Dub productions and playing guitar in a Rock-Steady band. iRoadie never gets weary and a new challenge starts for him in 2021, through a collaboration with Dubophonic Records. His debut EP on the label is entitled “Dub Time”. It consists of three dubs, the first one being based on the classic Cuss Cuss riddim featuring Stefanosis on the melodica. Strictly positive vibes!

Soul Fire - Wake Up Your Lion

Lee “Scratch” Perry’s 70‘s classic “Soul Fire” was the ignition for the songwriter and singer Vassilis Savopoulos a.k.a “Jah Smiley” from Thessaloniki, to form in the beginning of 90’s “Soul Fire”, the first reggae band in Greece. It has been almost thirty years since then and probably no one could have ever imagined, that this reggae band would record their first album with the internationally renowned dub producer Mad Professor in 2005 and play as the opening act for the legendary band of Bob Marley, "The Wailers”. Well-known artists participated in that first album: drummer “Sinclair”, member of Lee Scratch Perry’s band “Roboticks”, Aisha on the backing vocals, Cofi and Mafia from “Mafia & Fluxy” plus MC Fredi Kruga.

Wake Up Your Lion is Soul Fire’s 2nd album and was originally released back in 2013 on Soul Fire Music. We feel honoured to be able to digitally distribute this album through Dubophonic Records, eight years after its original release. The album is mixed and mastered by Professor Skank and includes fourteen tracks ina roots and culture style. With classics like “Rasta People”, “Wake Up Your Lion” and “Rootsman Skanking”, this album is without doubt an important piece of reggae culture in Greece.

Culture Horn & Gun Power - Feel It

Gun Power is a music band from Moscow. Nevertheless, the band was born in Thailand in 2017 by travelling musicians, who were playing in reggae bars all around Koh Samui and Koh Phangan islands. After returning to Russia, they decided to keep groovin' together and that’s how Gun Power was founded.

In 2019 Gun Power started working with Culture Horn Sound System, recording compositions that the CHSS team worked on. Later the same year, the band started to experiment with the sound, making improvisational concerts, playing over with jazz, dub, funk, instrumental "chillrave." In 2020, as a result of the pandemic times, the band was reshaped. But despite these changes, Gun Power is still working on events and a studio album.

This release is the result of their collaboration with Culture Horn Sound System and includes two songs and two dubs, following the format of all the releases of Culture Horn. The first tune is a rework of the classic anthem of Althea and Donna in a discomix style, while the title track Feel It is their first song ever released, written in a lovers rock style. Both tracks are accompanied by the obligatory dub mixes.
