Dubophonic Records proudly presents another heartfelt collaboration between Leo Tan and I-niverse, delivering a powerful collection of roots reggae and dub inspired by faith, redemption, and the everlasting love of the Creator.

Built upon warm reggae foundations and deep dub sonics, the EP carries a clear message of hope and salvation through two original vocal compositions and their accompanying dub counterparts, culminating in a beautiful saxophone interpretation by Sax N Dub.

Opening the release, "Son Of God" is a passionate declaration of praise, celebrating Jesus Christ as King of Kings, Redeemer, and Savior. Blending biblical imagery with conscious reggae spirit, Leo Tan's lyrics speak of grace, righteousness, and the ultimate triumph of truth over Babylon, while I-niverse provides a rich and uplifting musical backdrop. The companion version, "Son Of Dub", transforms the song into a deep instrumental meditation, allowing the message to resonate through echo, bass, and space.

The second vocal offering, "There Is A Place", draws inspiration from the teachings of Christ and the promise of eternal peace. Reflecting on mercy, humility, and divine love, the song points toward a holy place where believers find rest and shalom in the presence of the Father. After a number of digital releases, it is time for his first vinyl single release on the label, featuring Leo Tan on the vocals. The tune is entitled New Jerusalem and it is presented in two versions: the vocal cut and the obligatory dub version!   

With his powerful voice and technique, Leo Tan delivers the most appropriate lyrics for this uplifting riddim, praising God and thanking Him for everything He provides!

The UK reggae dub producer I-niverse keeps spreading the message of peace, love & unification through his work. I-niverse’s sound takes you on an uplifting spiritual journey, driven by pulsating weighty bass lines and majestic melodies that send positive vibrations to the heart and help one to experience states of inner peace.

Hailing from the UK, his new single is entitled Jahovah Jireh and features once again Leo Tan, the talented vocalist from the Netherlands, who was also featured on I-niverse previous EP Jah Grace Riddim, released back in 2022. 

With his powerful voice and technique, Leo Tan once again delivers the most appropriate lyrics for this uplifting riddim. The Lord Will Provide!

Tokiboun In Dub - Dub Valley (ft. Nish Wadada, Nehdiman, Oryo, Jah93)

French-Swiss producer Tokiboun in Dub is back. After his 2022 four-track instrumental EP Mountain Vibrations with William Jacquement on the Trombone and Full Vibes on the flute, he returns in 2023 with his new EP entitled Dub Valley. Having the desire to share good vibrations and to create several versions of one single rhythm. he has contacted the artists he loves and he presents the following four tracks on the EP: 

Water Valley features the enchanting Nish Wadada on the vocals. The Dutch singer of Cape Verdean descent from Rotterdam, quickly made a name for herself in the European roots and dub scene. Initially active in the world music scene, Nish gradually became more and more fascinated by reggae and Rastafari, enjoying international recognition through her conscious and uplifting lyrics and her collaborations with Brizion, Dub Dynasty, Kibir La Amlak and Ashanti Selah, just to name a few! 

Valley Of Fire features the Japanese female musician and instrumentalist Oryo on the violin. She has already been featured in the past on our label on Shanti-K’s EP Revolution. 

Earth Valley features Mehdiman on the vocals. Mehdiman, born in Iran and now living in Germany, started his career playing guitar and as a backup vocalist for several bands. He has a great raggamuffin style that will make you get up and move.

Valley Of The Wind features, Jah93 AKA Kumi, hailing from Hiroshima/Japan and stepping in with the melodica riffs on this one! Jah93 has also been brought forward internationally to the masses by a great variety of some of the long-standing names in the business such as Chazbo (Bush Chemists / Roots Temple), OBF Sound system (Dubquake) and has been featured by the mighty Aba Shanti-I through various productions that she has done with Ashanti Selah.

 

Messian Dread - Dangerous Discomixes

The concept of a DJ chanting over a riddim and singers jumping in and out is not new, not original, not uncommon. Where many styles and genres have incorporated the concept, no one can take away the fact that this all started in Jamaica during the 1970's and even before that. No one can deny that Roots Reggae music, mixed in Dub style, is a perfect foundation for a DJ to chant over and exactly that is what you can find in the new showcase album of Messian Dread.

When the B-sides of Jamaican singles gradually changed from a mere instrumental version to a complete dub work-out by ones like King Tubby's, all of this paved the way for the maxi-singles or twelve-inch vinyl records: the extended mix containing both vocal and dub version in one long stop mix, often called discomixes.

Dangerous Discomixes honors this tradition with nine traditional discomixes, all created by Messian Dread in his Dubroom studio between the years 2014-2015. Some material was pre-recorded in studio's like ARIWA, the vocals were legally obtained and licensed, but everything was completely re-arranged and fit into original Dubroom riddims. It includes nine traditional Roots Reggae discomixes, digging deeper into the vast ocean of the vibes of Messian Dread. All tracks are original Dubroom productions. The vocals (Kojak, Horseman, Seamus, Clifton, Dillinger, U-Roy, Prince Jazzbo, Dillinger, Trinity) are legally obtained and licensed, the music and vocal arrangement created and mixed by Messian Dread with real horns, real this-and-that and of course real, authentic dub mixing.

Nine extended tracks, with the first half carrying the original Reggae riddim with full length lyrical content, followed by its dub version. Experience how dub is actually transforming a Reggae track into a spaced-out piece of ear candy. 

Messian Dread - Tunes For Thoughts

Last year we introduced to you through the re-release of the 2007 track Maranatha, Messian Dread, that versatile personality from the Netherlands: Producer, singer, player of instruments, writer, reviewer, selector, and editor/webmaster of Dubroom, one of the longest running platforms/netlabels promoting Dub Reggae and Consciousness since 1997.

Tunes For Thoughts is a compilation of tracks from Messian Dread’s archives, produced by him between 2006 and 2008. It is the first time that they are all put together in a compilation, since they were originally released in the past as separate digital EPs with many alternative versions of each track. We have compiled for you the discomixes, which is the trademark of Messian Dread.

In Reggae, when you like a tune, you listen to it a few minutes and after the vocal version you play the dub. But the discomix tradition is something that is not really seen or heard these last years. A discomix version is there to make you feel the experience, to feel and meditate. You'll listen to a full track in a discomix style and when you look back to Reggae tradition, you know what this is about.

 

The term discomix is not very familiar. It comes from the 70's and 80's. We talk about a tune with lyrics, followed by a dub version. All in one long mix. A concept hardly followed anywhere nowadays, because of sentiments or whatever. Messian Dread has been pushing it to the limits and we as a label, we recognize him as a pioneer respecting this format and we forward it to you. This is stuff not only to listen but to be part of the experience as well.

 

Enjoy the vibes. They were produced for your enjoyment and edification throughout the decades. Most of all, produced for you in freedom. Free to hear the messages and free to think!

iRoadie - Dub Time

IRoadie, born in The Netherlands in 1968, embraced the reggae scene at a very young age. The first lick on his guitar was Marley`s “Redemption song” at 11 years old. He spent his youth on stage and in rehearsal playing with many bands throughout the years, with rhythm guitar and roots reggae as his main focus. Working with multitrack recorders made him an independent producer and qualified broadcast studio engineer while the digital revolution enabled him a worldwide audience.

After years of manufacturing percussion instruments, studio work became his core business. Many artists visited his studio dubbing tracks. Cd productions followed in the styles of traditional Wassolon Mali music, Ska, Rock Steady and Roots Reggae. As time passed, he enjoyed many live performances and tours as guitarist and percussionist.

Fast forward to the present, iRoadie supports art students in audio visual technics, while he keeps the fire alive with a stream of new Roots Dub productions and playing guitar in a Rock-Steady band. iRoadie never gets weary and a new challenge starts for him in 2021, through a collaboration with Dubophonic Records. His debut EP on the label is entitled “Dub Time”. It consists of three dubs, the first one being based on the classic Cuss Cuss riddim featuring Stefanosis on the melodica. Strictly positive vibes!
