French-Swiss producer Tokiboun in Dub is back. After his 2022 four-track instrumental EP Mountain Vibrations with William Jacquement on the Trombone and Full Vibes on the flute, he returns in 2023 with his new EP entitled Dub Valley. Having the desire to share good vibrations and to create several versions of one single rhythm. he has contacted the artists he loves and he presents the following four tracks on the EP:

Water Valley features the enchanting Nish Wadada on the vocals. The Dutch singer of Cape Verdean descent from Rotterdam, quickly made a name for herself in the European roots and dub scene. Initially active in the world music scene, Nish gradually became more and more fascinated by reggae and Rastafari, enjoying international recognition through her conscious and uplifting lyrics and her collaborations with Brizion, Dub Dynasty, Kibir La Amlak and Ashanti Selah, just to name a few!

Valley Of Fire features the Japanese female musician and instrumentalist Oryo on the violin. She has already been featured in the past on our label on Shanti-K’s EP Revolution.

Earth Valley features Mehdiman on the vocals. Mehdiman, born in Iran and now living in Germany, started his career playing guitar and as a backup vocalist for several bands. He has a great raggamuffin style that will make you get up and move.

Valley Of The Wind features, Jah93 AKA Kumi, hailing from Hiroshima/Japan and stepping in with the melodica riffs on this one! Jah93 has also been brought forward internationally to the masses by a great variety of some of the long-standing names in the business such as Chazbo (Bush Chemists / Roots Temple), OBF Sound system (Dubquake) and has been featured by the mighty Aba Shanti-I through various productions that she has done with Ashanti Selah.

Stefanosis meets Samson Benji - Brass Echo Chamber

Stefanosis meets Samson Benji - Brass Echo Chamber / (c) Dubophonic 2020
This album - Brass Echo Chamber - was originally released in the early 2000's through the now defunct Springline Records label. Sadly, the online release never took off and did not received the popularity it deserved. Like a fading star, it was eventually taken offline and forgotten in the vaults.

The man behind the instruments was Stefanosis from Los Angeles, known as Steve Steppa back then. The concept was quite simple: create an album influenced by the 1970's reggae-dub era with a saxophone as the lead instrument. The man behind the brass was the German born saxophonist Ras Samson aka Samson Benji, who was given the dubplates and added his horns like the “icing” on a “well baked cake”.

The original, low-fi production was recorded using a vintage, analog synth, drum-machine and electric bass and guitars masterfully played by Stefanosis. After saxophone parts were recorded long distance in Europe, Gibsy Rhodes from Corsica, the man behind Springline Records, put the whole package together with some added effects, samples and rough mastering.

Fast forward in year 2020, the original files were discovered years later on a disc. Admiring the whole concept and the irie hooks of Samson's soulful saxophone. Stefanosis took the files and boosted some audio levels, utilizing modern technology. The songs have been re-mastered and allowed to shine brighter this time. Twenty years after the original release, the Brass Echo Chamber lives again, polished and resonating pure, reggae dubplate vibes.

Red Star Martyrs - Red Star Martyrs

[DPH027] Red Star Martyrs / Dubophonic
The UK producer Stanley Woodfield, better known under the project-name Red Star Martyrs, has been one of the most active artists since the start of our label.  After having released two EPs, “I & I” (2013) and “Time for Tea” (2014) and contributing in the compilation “United as One (2014), there was a silence for nearly 2 years.  It has been a constructive silence … and today we are happy to announce his first long player. We have been saving this one for you to be our last release of 2016.

The self-titled digital LP includes 14 brand new tracks of total length of 63 minutes from the producer who has managed to set his own sound-mark on our label. Rootikal vibes with a twist and melodic dubwise sounds with live instruments played mainly by Stanley himself are the key ingredients of his style. Guest appearances by I-Rebel, Don Goliath, Madi Simmons, Tallis, Trinity, Kontent, Squidgy Black and Penti from Senti. Give thanks! R.I.P. Fidel, Hasta la Victoria Siempre!

Mastermind XS - Keep On Moving

[DPH025] Mastermind XS - Keep on moving / Dubophonic
[DPH025] Mastermind XS - Keep on moving / DubophonicMastermind XS is a dub-project from Saarbrucken/Germany, created by Daniel Stephan (guitar, bass, keyboard, programming, sitar) and Heiko Petry (vocals, lyrics, melodica, keyboard). Their music is based on a solid dub foundation: heavy basslines with conscious lyrics and deeply rooted dub & reggae with an interesting twist, integrating many influences such as electro, ethnic music, drum/n/bass and even indie or punk. Their sound unites different styles, which hardly fits into one single genre and are always exploring new musical spaces, combining their Ableton skills and live instruments, forming a unique ear-candy-mixture of grooves.

They have been busy releasing their music since October 2010 on diverse netlabels. Their first EP “One Dub Many Roots“, was released on the French netlabel LCL, while in 2011 their first long-player ”Reset all systems“ was released on Angel Dust Records. Their next album “Freedom of choice” was released in august 2014 again on LCL.

Dubophonic is proud to host their new album “Keep on moving”. It’s a compilation of 12 songs representing their unique and unconventional blend of dub & reggae. Modern and roots-elements are combined with drum/n/bass, electro, dubstep, indie rock heavy guitars, conscious lyrics and of course deep basses and delays.

Mastered by the pioneering artist, producer and peace activist Celt Islam, their new release (and their first on our netlabel) is a proof of the duo’s strength and innovation: writing reggae and dub oriented music with socially conscious lyrics and musically exploring different ideas, oscillating between danceable and meditative, powerful and calm, groovy and heavy, on their quest to define the far distanced borders of dub music.

Zion Dirty Sound - Celebrity Fever

[DPH023] Zion Dirty Sound - Celebrity Fever (Reworks and dubs) // Dubophonic
Djibril and Faida are back. Two years after the first release Fils d’ Abraham, the French duo Zion Dirty Sound return with a new EP. Based on the track Celebrity Fever already released on their first LP, Dubophonic is re-releasing that same riddim in a new creative approach.

It took a long time for this project to be completed. Main reason, was the many artists involved in this project. The stems of the riddim traveled from France to all around the world, to places near and far. Countries like Cyprus, Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland, Russia, USA and Japan are participating in this project. The riddim was then reworked or dubbed and then sent back to the Zion Dirty Sound headquarters in France for the final mixing and “necessary tweaking”.

The result is a compilation eight new songs, each and every one based on the same “celebrity” riddim, but each and every one completely different in terms of creativity. Starting with Zion Dirty Sound’s 2015 version of Celebrity Fever titled Cumbia Fever, the riddim is dubbed by Nadoo (FR), vocalised in English by the dancehall artist Afro D (RUS) and in Japanese by sister Erika Crymson (JAP). Master See’s (USA) approach ina Nyabinghi style is lyric-wise and rythm-wise a strong slap to Babylon. Equally conscious is the version of Jazzmin Tutum (GER), an artist representing the often so neglected sub-genre of Dub Poetry. Peter Chaves (SP) and Michel Melody (POL) team up for a melodica dub version of the riddim. Last but not least we have included the irie sound of Murjah Warriors (ITA) improvising skilfully on the mandolin, perhaps the most creative version of all.

All cuts are composed with lots of love and this can be heard on every tune. But most important is the fact that all tracks flow nicely together. We hope that you will play this ep may times, since each cut has a different vibe and you will always find the most appropriate one for each situation.

Closing we would like to give thanks to Michel from the Murjah Warriors for the painting of the cover and the artwork and to Djibril for the special touch on the mixing of the tunes. We hope you will enjoy the tunes and that you will love them as well as we did.

01 Zion Dirty Sound - Cumbia fever / 02 Nadoo - Celebrity dub / 03 Jazzmin Tutum - Ci Ca Run Come / 04 Afro D - Teach Dem Fi Survive / 05 Master See - I reject it / 06 MurJah Warriors - Mandlion in Zion / 07 Haji Mike - Pain pain/ 08 Peter Chaves ft Michael Melody - Melodica Fever / 09 Erika Crymson - Light Up

Mexican Stepper - Run & Tell REMIXED

[DPH020] Mexican Stepper ft Rebel-I - Run & Tell REMIXED
[DPH020] Mexican Stepper ft Rebel-I - Run & Tell REMIXEDAfter his first release on Dubophonic and following his recent European tour, the international artist from Mexico Yasser Serano, better known as Mexican Stepper, returns with another heavyweight track. Based on the same concept of the Mad Sunday EP, Yasser introduces his new tune “Run & Tell” and calls in these times of tribulation the Peruvian singer Rebel-I for vocal assistance, running and telling to the four corners of the world that Babylon is falling down. Originally the title track has been included in Mexican Stepper’s digital LP “Piramide del Sol” from last year released on the French netlabel Original Dub Gathering.

Since Dubophonic likes to experiment and stir things together, we have called assistance from our extended family of artists and asked them to spread the conscious message of the tune in their own style and fashion. The result was twelve exclusive versions of the original tune, reconstructed and mixed all around the world, strengthening the bonds and proving one more time, that conscious dub music is an international thing. Among all versions there is one special dubplate by Mexican Stepper and five remixes by Injham (FR), Thriakis Dub Destroyer (FR), Koncrete Roots (UK), JahYu (GER) and Mr Zebre (FR), as well as six alternative cuts/dubs by Du3normal (HUN), Holy Sound Crew (FR), Murjah Warriors (ITA), Dubios (GER), Mr Mefistou (PR) and Ktopp (GER).

Which is your favourite? You may prefer Mr Zebre’s warrior style vibration or the rootically inspired remix of Thriakis Dub Destroyer. Perhaps it’s the organic skunking melody of the Murjah Warriors, armed with a mandolin and a melodica ina “Renaissance” steppa style, that will carry you away inna cloud of irieness … or the heavy vibrations of Koncrete Roots and Injham. Perhaps the correct question should be “Which one is our favourite?” Well, all twelve versions are heavy enough to set Babylon on fire. So play them LOUD! It remains to you to discover the vibes hidden behind each version!

Karma Dub - Samadhi

[DPH007] Karma Dub - Samadhi
[DPH007] Karma Dub - Samadhi It all started with a midi keyboard he received as birthday present back in 2012. The young producer from southern Germany was always influenced by the vibes of Roots Reggae, Dub and as well Jungle and Drum and Bass music. It was merely a matter of time until he started producing his own sounds. Nothing is stronger than an idea, whose time has come. And the time for Karma Dub's first release has arrived.

Karma is an ancient concept, a Sanskrit word meaning 'act', 'action', or 'word'. The law of karma teaches us that all of our thoughts, words and actions begin a chain of cause and effect, and that we will personally experience the effects of everything we cause. It is clear that Karma Dub is deeply influenced by the eastern cultures and their music. Nevertheless he successfully manages to incorporate in his work heavy basslines and irie melodies, elements rooted in the Jamaican music.

Karma Dub’s first album is a higher level of concentrated musical meditation. Each tune leads to the next state of mind. It is therefore important to listen to the tunes in the correct order. Just press PLAY and close your eyes.

Imagine yourself being a wandering monk, who has chosen to live a life apart from or on the edges of society. You travel from orient to occident, gathering knowledge as you meet different cultures, practicing your musical spirituality. Being conscious about your environment, you let your environment assimilate with your I and I. The stillness of your mind enables you to observe and gain insight into the changing flow of your experiences. As you arrive to the western world, the music changes, the bass gets heavier picking up the frequencies of your heartbeat. Keeping your eyes shut, your mind is still consciously receiving every vibration of your surroundings. What is happening to you is actually very easy to explain. You are experiencing Karma Dub’s vibes on your everyday life. It’s your Karma to be hypnotised!
