🚨 Change of visa application process in the immigration office in Berlin Many of you might have noticed that its impossible to get online appointments at the immigration office in Berlin (LEA) in the past few weeks. The reason for that is that the visa application process has been changed from a manual f2f application service to a digital online application service. 🤔 What does this mean for you? ✅ If you need to get your visa extended, apply for a blue card or submit your residence permit application, you need to gather your documents and submit them online. ✅ If you cant find the type of application you are submitting on the website of the immigration office, you need to submit your application via the general contact form The links for those are waiting for you in the comments 💙 📥 The immigration office will process your application and once approved - will send you an appointment to come order your residence card. You will also be informed if your application will get rejected. Here are my three tips from my years of experience for you: 💡 Prepare a tidy application. Include all your documents. Scan them properly, in good format and size. Condense everything into one file 💡Dont wait for the last minute - submit your application as soon as possible, usually 8-12 weeks before your current visa expires 💡Plan your travel accordingly: You may only travel within the validity of your visa, so if your new visa is not ready by the time your old visa expires, you might not be able to travel. Be patient and plan accordingly 💡Keep a copy of your application confirmation as proof for your application. You might need to present it to your employer, or in case your application gets complex (rare, but happens) 💡Be patient and flexible. Check your mailbox (both digital as well as physical post) for the appointment invitation, and make sure to attend your appointment. Show enough funding to pay 3 year salary (note: you CAN work part-time too). You must be “hireable” & “fireable” by company. ✅H-4 EAD: If your spouse has an H-1B and an approved I-140, this gives you total work freedom! - Cost: $410 for EAD + ~$2000 legal - Trap: Entirely tied to your spouse’s visa status. If their visa is revoked, so is yours! ✅F-1 OPT: Graduated in the U.S.? OPT gives 12 months (36 for STEM) of work authorization. You can build a company on the “self-employment OPT.” - Cost: $410 for OPT application - Trap: STEM OPT doesn’t allow self-employment.
