Preventing trust decay in lead nurturing

Explore top LinkedIn content from expert professionals.

Summary

Preventing trust decay in lead nurturing means maintaining and growing the confidence leads have in your brand as you guide them through their buying journey. Trust decay happens when leads feel misunderstood, overwhelmed, or neglected, so it's essential to focus on authentic, value-driven interactions that build enduring relationships.

  • Personalize communication: Tailor your emails and content to each lead’s interests, challenges, and stage in their journey, instead of sending generic messages.
  • Provide consistent value: Share useful resources, educational content, and social proof that help leads learn and grow without pressuring them to buy right away.
  • Listen and respond: Pay attention to engagement signals and feedback, reaching out when leads show interest or have questions to keep the conversation genuine and timely.

Just because a qualified person opts-in to learn from you doesn’t mean they are a “lead”. A key problem with the old B2B playbook is that too many companies treat every qualified form-fill as an MQL. But that focuses on the fraction of the market that’s “ready to buy” now (5%), while alienating the vast majority (95%) who aren't ready to buy yet. That's what 'lead nurturing' was supposed to solve. But the problem with traditional lead nurturing is that it too often relies on generic, product-centric content pushed through automated email sequences. This 'spray and pray' method rarely considers the individual's specific interests or where they are in their buyer's journey. And few marketers usually treat it as an “always on” education strategy, instead building relatively short sequences against specific goals. This approach misses the opportunity to build long-term relationships and ignores the non-linear nature of most B2B buying journeys Anthony Kennada, CEO of AudiencePlus, has been promoting a different approach: an audience-first strategy. It's about building a community around your brand, not just a list of leads. It's creating content and experiences that people actively seek out and engage with, regardless of whether they're ready to buy. And ideally that content is so good, they’ll subscribe to future content — giving you a valuable path to engage over time. An audience-first approach focuses on delivering value consistently, building trust, and fostering genuine relationships with your entire target market — not just the small percentage who are in-market right now. Here's why this approach works: 1️⃣ Buyers crave valuable content, not product pitches. They want to learn, grow, and connect with peers. Help them do that. 2️⃣ Subscription > lead forms. Don't gate everything behind a form. Let people opt into an ongoing relationship with your brand by managing subscriptions. 3️⃣ Quality matters more than ever. With content abundance, only the truly valuable stuff breaks through. Raise your game. 4️⃣ First-party data is invaluable. A subscription is a direct relationship that helps you understand your audience's real interests and challenges, as opposed to a dark funnel of anonymous buying. 5️⃣ AI can unlock new insights. You can mine those content journeys and engagement patterns to understand deal stories and golden paths. Stan Woods at Velocity Partners recently interviewed Anthony about this and more.  Check out the article in the comments. #B2BMarketing #LeadNurturing #MarTech #ContentStrategy #AudienceFirst #Subscriptions #MQLsareDead

Even SaaS companies doing 8–9 figures per year still make this costly mistake: Using a one-size-fits-all approach in their messaging. This is especially the case when it comes to email marketing nurturing campaigns. Let’s say a lead opts into a webinar. What happens next? 1️⃣ They get tossed into a generic email flow ↳ No context, no segmentation, no relevance 2️⃣ They start receiving irrelevant messages ↳ Product announcements they didn’t ask for ↳ Event invites that aren’t related ↳ Company updates with no connection to their journey 3️⃣ They lose interest ↳ The messaging doesn’t align with the reason they opted in ↳ It feels disconnected and generic This disconnect kills conversion. ↳ It breaks the trust you just earned ↳ It creates friction in the buying journey ↳ And it pushes warm leads further away from becoming customers What should be happening instead? You build a dedicated nurture sequence—specifically tailored to the lead magnet or trigger that brought them in. That sequence should: 1️⃣ Expand on the pain point they showed interest in 2️⃣ Deliver content that builds trust over time 3️⃣ Move them closer to buying—without jumping the gun Your leads aren’t just emails on a list. They have: 1️⃣ Specific interests 2️⃣ Unique needs 3️⃣ Different stages in their buyer journey Without thoughtful segmentation and tailored messaging? ↳ You miss the chance to build momentum ↳ You lose the opportunity to create trust ↳ And your pipeline suffers The difference between engagement and conversion often comes down to how you nurture. One-size-fits-all isn’t nurture. It’s noise.

You've reeled in a boatload of leads. Great job! But wait... why aren't they turning into customers? Here's the cold, hard truth: 79% of marketing leads never convert into sales. That's right, folks. All that effort, time, and money is spent on lead generation, and most of it is wasted. Why? Because too many companies treat lead nurturing like a game of hot potato. It's time to stop treating leads like numbers and treat them like people. Effective lead nurturing is about building relationships, not just sending endless emails. We were assisting a Fintech startup from the UK that had AP Solutions. Before we began the project, I had a Zoom call with the CEO, who seemed lost due to spending money on leads. This is what he was telling over the zoom call, looking all lost. "We generated 300 leads in the last 2 months," he sighs, stirring his third espresso. "But our sales team is drowning, and our conversion rate is in the toilet." Sounds familiar? His company was making classic lead nurturing blunders: 1. Treating all leads the same (one-size-fits-all rarely fits anyone) 2. Bombarding leads with sales pitches (nothing says "we care," like 15 emails in 3 days, right?) 3. Handing leads to sales too soon (like trying to harvest tomatoes while they're still green) We took up the challenge and this is what we did. 1. Implemented lead scoring (not all leads are created equal, folks) 2. Created personalized nurturing tracks (because people like to feel special, who knew?) 3. Developed educational content (teach, don't just sell) Fast-forward three months. The Company's conversion rate jumped from 2% to 8% and revenue is up 35%. Listen up, team. Lead nurturing isn't about pestering people until they buy or die. It's about building trust and providing value. Here's the real deal: 1. Patience pays off. Nurtured leads make 47% larger purchases than non-nurtured leads (Annuitas Group). Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither are customer relationships. 2. Content is king. 95% of buyers choose a solution provider that "Provides them with ample content to help navigate through each stage of the buying process" (DemandGen Report). So, put down the sales pitch and pick up that educational content. 3. Timing is everything. 35-50% of sales go to the vendor that responds first (InsideSalesdotcom). But reacting first doesn't mean immediately pushing for a sale. It means being there when your lead needs you. 4. Personalization is not optional. Personalized emails improve click-through rates by 14% and conversion rates by 10% (Aberdeen). Are you struggling with lead nurturing? You're not alone. Comment about your biggest challenge, and let's brainstorm solutions together! #LeadNurturing #SalesStrategy #StartupGrowth #RevenueGeneration #SaaS #Sales #marketing #innovation #futureis #leads

Lead nurturing ≠ 5-email automated sequence + retargeting begging a prospect to book a demo. Here are 5 pillars of successful nurturing. 1. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐧𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦. Interview your best customers and dive into a sales process of recently won deals to understand what triggers the buyer journey and how your best customers actually buy. Ideally, you need to define: - Business and demand triggers - Channels - Buying committee - Questions and concerns they have at different stages Next step is auditing all the available content: blog, youtube, knowledge base and use it to develop lead nurturing cadence. For content gaps, you need to create a plan to fill them in. 2. 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞. Not everybody that engages with your ads, content, or sign-ups for your events is a lead. Don't put everybody into a "push cadence" asking to book a demo. Instead, segment every prospect by: - a tier based on the firmographics - job role and the role in the buying committee - engagement intent 3. 𝐃𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐫 1 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐫 2 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐬. - Run account research to collect as much information about their needs and goals as possible. - Connect and ask for feedback about the content on LinkedIn or via email. Ask about the context (why they downloaded/engaged/signed up) and if it helped (content quality feedback). - Reach out with a self-segmentation email or survey - Ask if they are interested in learning more about the topic. If yes, suggest signing up for your newsletter, podcast, or other demand-gen assets. 4. 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐧𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠. - Add the prospect to a relevant retargeting sequence with nurturing content - Replicate the retargeting sequence in your email automation - Put the same content into a personalized content hub that also includes buyer enablement content and product information - Engage with their content or updates on LinkedIn - Tag in relevant threads or share relevant content - Invite to the relevant events - Connect and engage with other buying committee members 5. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐬. Whenever you see a spike in engagement, reach out and ask if they have any questions or need any help. --- Understand what triggers the buyer journey and what are the typical steps. Understand the questions and information your buyers are looking for. Understand their jobs to be done and the education they need to get to at least become curious about your product. Then, develop your nurturing system aligned with how your buyers actually buy. ---- Next week we'll have a few talks about nurturing at our Full-Funnel Summit. Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/ddZ6Qyk8

Imagine increasing your lead-to-meeting rate without touching your ads, your copy, or your budget. This can absolutely happen. How? Use your email to create tailored sequences that directly address your prospect’s needs.  I bet that your email nurture sequence is the most underrated part of your funnel. It’s where leads warm up, build trust, and decide whether you’re worth their time. Here’s an example of a 5 step sequence. 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 1: 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐭 + 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐖𝐢𝐧 - Give them the asset and a one-step action they can implement today to see an immediate lift. 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: Activation — builds early momentum and establishes immediate value. 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 2: 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 - Show how a similar company solved the same problem and achieved a measurable result. 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: Social Proof — reinforces credibility and reduces skepticism. 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 3: 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐎𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - Tackle the biggest hesitation you hear on sales calls and demonstrate how others overcame it. 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: Objection Handling — removes friction and clears the path to a meeting. 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 4: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐚 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥 - Share a template, checklist, or framework they can use immediately to improve their funnel. 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: Value Expansion — deepens trust by giving them a useful asset upfront. 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 5: 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - Invite them to a short, personalized consultation focused on diagnosing their funnel gaps. 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: Conversion Catalyst — creates a clear next step for warm, qualified leads. Stop trying to fix your funnel by driving more traffic. Start by improving how you nurture the leads you already have. #B2BMarketing #GrowthMarketing #B2BTech

Good business development isn’t about chasing every opportunity that crosses your desk; it’s about nurturing the right ones with intentionality and care. When I first stepped into the world of business development, I thought success was all about quick wins and closing deals fast. But the more I learned, the more I realized: lasting growth happens when you treat leads like long-term relationships, not transactions. Here’s what I’ve been applying lately that’s changing everything: 🔹 Listen Before You Pitch: Instead of rushing to sell, I take time to understand the prospect’s challenges, goals, and pain points. Listening builds trust, and trust builds deals. 🔹 Follow Up with Value, Not Pressure: Each follow-up is an opportunity to offer something meaningful, a resource, an idea, or a relevant article, not just a “checking in” email. This shows genuine care, not desperation. 🔹 Personalize Every Touchpoint: People remember when you make them feel seen. Whether it’s referencing a small detail from a past conversation or celebrating their recent win, personalization keeps relationships warm. One story that drives this home: During my internship interview prep, I connected with someone here on LinkedIn who’d been in the same role. Instead of asking for favors, I asked thoughtful questions and showed genuine interest. Months later, that same person referred me to a potential partner because they remembered my curiosity and professionalism. That’s the power of nurturing, not chasing. 💡Why this matters: In a world full of noise and sales pitches, people invest in relationships. Whether you’re growing a business or your personal brand, leading with value and consistency will set you apart. 💬Your turn: What’s one lead-nurturing strategy or follow-up habit that’s worked well for you? Let’s share tips that can help us all grow smarter together. #BusinessDevelopment #RelationshipBuilding #CareerGrowth #Networking #LeadNurturing #SalesStrategy

My personal experience on converting leads to deals... Attracting leads and nurturing them into paying customers are two different aspects of sales. 𝘽𝙚 𝙖 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙧, 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙖 𝙎𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 Your job is to provide the right conditions for leads to grow, not hard sell. Focus on building trust, offering value, and understanding their unique needs. 𝘼𝙙𝙤𝙥𝙩 𝙃𝙮𝙥𝙚𝙧- 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 Use data to segment your leads and tailor your outreach. Dynamic personalization tools can add their name, reference their previous interactions, and even adjust content based on their browsing behavior. Remember, a touch of personalization goes a long way in making them feel seen and valued. 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙚𝙣 Offer valuable content tailored to their specific stage in the buyer's journey. Educate them with informative blog posts and white papers, engage them with interactive infographics and demos, and nurture them with targeted case studies and industry insights. Remember, relevant content keeps them engaged and moving down the sales funnel. 𝙊𝙢𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙡 𝙤𝙧𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙠𝙚𝙮 Create a seamless experience across various channels – email, social media, website, even SMS/text messaging. Consistency and relevance are crucial – reinforce your message and value proposition across platforms. Think of it as a harmonious chorus, not a cacophony of competing instruments. 𝘼𝙪𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙚, 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙘 Leverage marketing automation tools to handle repetitive tasks like email triggers and data segmentation. Remember, true nurturing relies on the human touch. Use automation to free up your time for personalized outreach, responding to inquiries, and offering targeted support. Let technology handle the logistics, while you weave the magic of personalized connection. 𝘿𝙖𝙩𝙖 𝙞𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨, 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣 Track your lead nurturing efforts, but don't become a slave to metrics. Analyze engagement rates, click-throughs, and conversion rates to understand what resonates and what doesn't. But resist the temptation to micromanage – remember, nurturing is a long-term process, and trust-building takes time. 𝙍𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧, 𝙞𝙩'𝙨 𝙖 𝙩𝙬𝙤-𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙩 Ask questions, invite feedback, and respond promptly. Don't just push information – cultivate a dialogue. You don’t lose leads because they’re not interested. You lose leads because you don’t nurture them. Most businesses assume prospects are ready to buy immediately. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴. Leads need nurturing. Trust takes time. Without a structured process, you’ll lose them to someone who has one. Here’s a 4-step lead nurturing process you can start today: 1️⃣ Segment your leads. Not all leads are the same. Categorize them by: - How warm they are (hot, warm, cold) - - Where they are in your funnel (awareness, consideration, decision) → This lets you personalize your approach instead of treating everyone the same. 2️⃣ Deliver consistent value. - People buy because you’re valuable, not persistent. - Share actionable tips tailored to their needs. - Use email sequences, LinkedIn posts, or quick DMs to stay visible. → Consistency builds trust. 3️⃣ Follow up with purpose. - Stop sending “Just checking in…” messages. - Reference their challenges or goals. - Position your message as a solution. → Every follow-up should provide value—not annoyance. 4️⃣ Automate where possible. - Use CRM tools like HubSpot or Pipedrive to track interactions. - Leverage email automation (e.g., Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign) to stay in touch. → Automation saves time and ensures no lead slips through the cracks. Why does this work? - It shows prospects you understand their needs. - It keeps you top-of-mind—without being pushy. - It’s repeatable & scalable for long-term success. Lead nurturing isn’t optional—it’s essential.
