Serious Sunday

TBT here:   I have to apologize for a post.  Oh wow, did I mess up!  I wrote a post I thought was scheduled for August 19 (to give myself time to think about it further) but apparently didn't change the month from July to August..  Some of you noticed that by email notification I guess.

The basic thing is that Laz has become more violent towards Ayla and even Lori.  The full post is HERE.   You probably should read it so you understand my distress and issues.  The post details some recent events.

I am looking to re-home him.  It breaks my heart to do this, I really love this guy personally and he loves me too.  But I just can't have him beating up on Ayla and Lori once a week or so.

I posted a re-homing offer on CraigsList several days ago and received an inquiry today.  I have replied to that inquiry, asking for information about the person and house.  I can always just decline if anything worrisome comes up in the emails.  I won't just give him away to "anyone" of course.

I apologize again for posting something I intended for the future (if at all).  When it suddenly disappeared, I thought I had deleted it somehow (which was OK).  Posting it into the past never crossed my mind.  I didn't even know you could do that!

But the reality is that Laz has to find a new home.  I promised him a "forever" home, and I have failed that promise.   There are tears all over my keyboard...

Flashback Friday

This week in 2011, Ayla was wearing an inflatable collar.  She had some sort of abdominal infection so I brought her to the Vet.  He was good!  It turned out Ayla had spay remnants left inside her by the breeder's Vet!  TWICE!

My Vet found the problem and operated immediately to remove the infected remnants.  She still had half her uterus and a whole ovary.  No wonder she kept going into heat every few weeks for 2 years!

She was much happier after the operation by my Vet.  And the inflatable (small dog) collar was so much easier on her!

There was still some trouble.  The sutures leaked a bit and her tummy was pink from fluids.  I panicked and brought her to an emergency hospital that night.  It turned out not to be necessary but I'd rather do too much than too little...

Not to get too far into the details again, but my Vet cautiously told me the remnants were "obvious" and he couldn't imagine a Vet missing them once, never mind twice.

Based on that (and photographs of the remnants) I wrote to the original (aged) Vet and demanded financial recompence.  He paid it at once with apologies and retired immediately.

So I suppose some good came out of all that.  Ayla was cured and a Vet past his abilities stopped.

But the main thing is that Ayla stopped going into heat finally!  So this is a week to celebrate Ayla's freedom (and my great relief from the "every 3 weeks").

Womancat Wensday

AYLA:  Walking around on the dresser...

I tried ta do a selfie, but I am not real good at that.

So I looked at my shadow on the wall.  That was kinna fun, an it came out OK.

It showed my furs good...

Twofur Tuesday

LAZ AND LORI:  We had a real drag-out FRAP/Wrassling/"Almost Fight" last night.  We go a bit nutso sometimes.  In fact, we went so crazy, we both fell to the floor from the top of the bookcases!  We get pretty fierce with each other sometimes!

TBT worries about us sometimes.  But then he sees us napping together in a couple of hours and relaxes a bit.  We are just "2 wild and crazy cats"...

We wish we could provide pics of us falling off the bookcases, but TBT isn't that fast with the camera.  MOL!  It actally takes a couple minutes fer him to find the camera, start it, adjust it, click.  And we don't wait around fer all that.

Monday Mancat - Laz Catches An Evil Skwerl!

LAZ:   I caught one!  I caught one!  I caught one!  I caught one!  I caught one!  I caught one!  I caught one!  I caught one!

I am now the OBHOTH (Official Big Hunter Of The House)...

I caught an Evil Skwerl!

I am the first of The Mews to ever do that.  Lori saw me do it, so that's proof.  And the pics TBT took help too.  Marley was so surprised at the news that he had to come out and look for himself!

TBT is considering a ceremony.  Like one of those "knighting" things he has seen on the TV.  He says he will tap me on both shoulders (with a letter opener - which seems size-appropriate) and declare me "Sir Lapis Lazuli, Skwerl-Slayer".  But don't worry, you can still just call me "Laz".  We are all friends...

And I got 3 freeze-dried chicken cubes as a reward!  I love those things.  ðŸ˜Š  I would catch a Skwerl every day for 3 of those if I could...  Lori got 1 too.  She loves them too and it seemed unfair if I got some and she didnt.  Marley and Ayla dont care about them.

Easy Like Sunday

We were all waiting ta go out this morning as soon as TBT got up!

So was Ayla, but she doesnt like ta sit around with the rest of us.  So she charged the door as soon as we were outside...

Caturday Saturday

MARLEY:  I'm just taking it easy on Dad's lap today.

The others are all outside, so there is no fussing or pushing...

Flashback Friday

Today, go back to this week in 2014...

A day started peacefully.  I was on the hammick

And Iza was just relaxing in her own special way...

Then I went out an investigated our new deck.

And I had fun walking around on a tarp and looking all around.

Iza came out and joined me.

Ayla chose ta stay inside.

Later, I returned ta the hammick

And then lay on the bed while Iza gave me some Very Nice Grooming!

Thankful Thursday

LORI:  I was a bad kitty last night.  I refused ta come in after dark.  An its not like I didn't come close ta the deck door.  But every time he opened it I walked away and down the deck stairs.

TBT called an called.  An even shook the kibble jar,  But I refused ta come in...

Well, I just wanted ta stay out in the dark fer a while.  And TBT saw me chasing a possum.  It looked inneresting...  HE nearly had an attack of the heart.

TBT says I am am "fearless but stupid".  I'm not sure about that, but I am filled with curiosity.  And Laz is liking to stay out later too.

We Mews generally get to stay out until an hour before dark (still, most of our time is indoors).  He is telling us it is going to be more like 2 hours now.

I don't blame myself for this, of course...  How could anyyone blame ME for annyything?

And I an thankful for that. .I get away with everything, being so gorgeous and all...

Womancat Wensday

AYLA:  Good nappin spots...    The first is a dresser drawer and whatcat doesn't like that?  I mean, the best part of a box and a pillow!

The 2nd is a chair with old sheets dumped on it.  And they are unwashed, so I can smell TBT while napping on them.  That is very comforting.

I sure love the bedroom!

Serious Saturday

TBT:  I am looking for both advice and perspective.  I hate to say this.  I have been hiding how bad Laz has gotten.

Laz has become violent again (he was when he first arrived but I thought I and Lori had solved that).   He attacked Ayla a week ago.  He attacked Lori 3 times in one day the next day.  He and Marley wrassle sometimes, but it never develops into a fight; Marley is just too strong.  Laz is utterly peaceful and friendly to me.

I had a "calming collar" on him.  I have a Feliway diffuser (and it was mostly full).  I give him considerable attention (and he enjoys that).  He is allowed outside almost any time he wants.  When I am near him he flops over to seek attention and I give it.

He gets attention when he asks and I make sure to offer some when he is just sitting around.  I give him the foods he likes, often with freeze-dried chicken crumbled on top (the Vet told me to stop with the kibbles).

After 3 years of peace from his terrible first home, he should be about as happy and calm as a cat can be!  But something is going wrong again.

When he attacked Ayla recently, I separated them quickly and got Ayla into the bedroom for sanctuary.  And Laz calmed down almost immediately.  I mean, his tail wasn't even puffed.  I know Laz doesn't like Ayla for some reason (though she is the smallest cat here)

But the 3 attacks on Lori disturb me greatly.  They do/did like each other.  The play together, eat together, sleep together.  They are often close together outside.

There have been a few "fur-on-the-floor" fights, but I know that sometimes happens.  One cat goes too far in play, the other gets angry and it builds.  But then it stops.

This wasn't like that...  The first 2 attacks were almost just one attack.  Laz attacked Lori for no apparent reason (and for once, I saw it develop).  He just jumped on her and was biting her around the throat.  She shreeched but couldn't get loose.

I grabbed Laz and tossed him a few feet away.  And he immediately attacked her again, with me right there!  I was shocked!  I grabbed Laz and tossed him out on the deck.  Lori ran and hid.  Later in the day, after I saw both walking past each other calmly, I let both outside.

Then, while I was watching. Laz stalked Lori and then attacked her again.  This time it was a screeching chase all around the yard.  Lori got in the open deck door and I closed it become Laz got there.  They have not napped together since.

I'm not sure what to do about this.  I think (sadly) that Laz cannot stay here.  I have never had cats that attacked each other.  Oh maybe a slight dust-up or temporary thing, but never anything like this.

Nor perhaps can he be around other cats.

I posted an request to re-home him on Craigslist several days ago (honest about him having to be an only pet), but have gotten no replies. He would be a great cat if he was the only one. I don't know anyone who has no pets who wants one.  I did emphasize that he is great with people.

I can't stand the idea of surrendering him to a shelter.  His likelihood of adoption is very low.  So that would mean euthanasia in a couple weeks I think.  And he would go crazy in a shelter.  His reaction to be caged when he is used to being free in a house and outside in a yard would just make things worse for his appeal to adopters.

My house is not suited to "zoning" (and neither am I).  And isolation would eliminate what socialization he has.  I'm kind of running out of options here. I know some of you casually mention cats fighting.  I can't really stand that easily, but should I just let them and learn to put up with it?

I love Laz to pieces personally.  And he adores me and loves to be around me.

But I can't continue to have Laz viciously attacking Ayla and Lori...

Any suggestions desperately desired.

Mancat Monday

MARLEY:   I've mentioned how I love the old platform tree.  And when I was new, it was in good shape.  I dont claw it.  But I have been resting myy head in one spot for SO long, the carpet in that spot is COMPETELY worn away.

TBT doesnt have anny more of that carpet but he is gonna get a scrap of SOME carpet and cut it ta shape an glue it!  Actally, thatll be kinna neat ta have a differnt color spot just as "my pillow"...

So fer right now, I'm spending more time on the otto-man.  Here are some floaty-toes.

An a pic focused ta show off my tummy good!

Easy Like Sunday

AYLA:  I had a good time just wandering around TBT.  The others were outside, so I had him to myself.

It felt like I was an "only cat".

And finally settled down on his lap...

I dont get ta do that often enough...  There is too much competition for The Lap, ya know?
