Easy Like Sunday

AYLA:  I  am really going around in the house and even out on the deck a lot more recently.  TBT is thrilled!

Yesserday, I not only went out on the deck, I pushed Lori out of the way to get there.   Well, she was hesitating...  I've been feeling friskie lately.  And its warm out there.  I jumped up to the deck rail tops.

Lori did go out too.  And sat on the deck top rail fascing me.  Sort of a mild threat, but I didn't mind.  I think she was just waiting fer TBT ta take her picture near the pretty flowers.

I waited...

And when she left (ta run around the yard all crazy-like), I moved near the flowers.  I think I got the better picture, don't you?

Later Lori and I sat on the deck itself just a few feet apart, but we don't have a pic of that.  TBT was afraid that opening the door might disturb us...

Maybe there is some hope for Lori and me ta get friendlier.  A few feet apart isn't much, and neither of us hissed.

Monday Mewsing

TBT:  Some readers mentioned this picture of Iza between the flowers:

Some pictures are better than others, but this one is precious to me in remembrance.  She didn't know I was watching her, so she was just exploring on her own.  She was always heavy to lift, but light on my lap and she stayed there often and under the covers in bed.  Her furs rivaled a mink's.

 My desktop picture is:

Ayla and Iza napping together as Sisfurs.  Siamese and Tonkinese together in peace.

I sure miss Iza...  ðŸ˜¢

Flashback Friday

Flashback Friday:  Today we go to this week in 2012.

Marley was hiding, but cats never remember where their tails are.

Ayla forgot, too.

Marley was surprized at something, but I forget what...

Iza was showing off her tummy and floaty-toes...

Marley tried to catch the little animals on the TV.  That response to the TV was unusual for him...

Iza was walking the garden path between 2 kinds of blooming flowers..

I really liked that picture.  She always tended to walk on the path and on the pavers.  Maybe she understood there was a purpose to the pavers.   Or maybe she just liked to stay balanced between the flowers.

Flashback Friday

Back we go again...  This time to this week in 2010.

Iza was enjoying chest and neck scritchies.  But notice the watch.  A Birthday Present when I was about 16.  Still worked in 2010 (with some new batteries sometimes, of course).  Easy to read, easy to adjust time.  Finally died.  I've never had a better watch (and it was cheap).

We had some nice Columbine flowers back then.  These were planted deliberatly. but I kept finding some wild from the originals for masny years after.  All gone now.

Not even sure what these were, but they were nice.

I really got into Hostas and had many patterns of them.  Still do, but I need to do some serious weeding to help them thrive again.

Flashback Friday

Today we go back to this week in 2016.  Not all that long ago, but things sure have changed!

Iza was enjoying a box.  I sure miss her...

The Mews were enjoying some time together.   Seeing Ayla and Iza that close together was rare!

As years pass and the climate warms, the First Frost comes later and later.  When I moved here, it was usually around Oct 20.  Lately, it has been a week later.  The current Weather Channel forecast doesn't show expected lows under 40F through Nov 9th.

So the mid 2010s was about when I really noticed the change.  The flowers survived longer than usual.  The impatiens were lovely...

As were the coleus...

Marigolds,,,

And zinnia...

The front yard was in full color.  The 2 golden-leaved trees are 'Golden Rain'.  The red shrub is 'Burning Bush'.  They all died in the dry 2020 and 2021 Summers in spite of frequent drip-watering.

The same goes for the Beech tree at the far right.  I had the skeletal remains cut down and the stump roots grinded down a month ago.   That green spot behind the Burning Bush was junk growth; it went too.

I am replanting... The junk growth spot now has a hot-red crape myrtle.  I'll plant a rooted cutting of a Euonymus shrub or a Butterfly Bush where the Burning Bush was (I have 2 others of them you can't see here).  I may replant the 2 Golden Rain trees, but I may decide on a Spring-flowerer.  I don't want all the color to show at the same time.

I haven't decided what to plant where the Beech tree was.  I like the purple leaves of small crabapple trees, but the fallen fruits are messy and attract hornets in the Fall.  I might plant a Sourwood tree (both burgundy and gold leaves in the Fall, but that is more Fall color again.  Maybe I'll plant another Crape Myrtle (but pink) for the difference.

And telling me to stop making so much noise...

Planted a lot of (petunias?)...

Flashback Friday

Today, we only go back a little way to this week in 2016.

Marley was enjoying the hammick...

Ayla, the tree...

And Iza, the ottoman.

Ayla was joing the other Mews on the deck.  There was in interesting smell on the Smoker cover.  Probably an intruder cat marked it.

Ayla felt more comfortable with the others then.  She and Iza fussed a bit sometimes, but it was brief and she always got along with Marley.  So she was OK with both.

It was a good time for the deck flowers.  The carefully-sheared Marigolds were great.

The randomized marilgolds, zinnias, and a caladium (that must have been sitting dormant in a pot overwintered in the basement) made a nice gathered display.

Even a hanging pot survived being under-watered and returned for a final blooming.

Flashback Friday

This week, we re-visit this week 2013.

The Autumn Joy Sedums were blooming.  They are starting to fade these days but I have clippings that are growing roots in water, so they will start again next year.  Those are zinnias behind them I think.  Those are gone.

Marley was watching a mousie hole under a rock near the pond.  It was a good mousie place.  They had water from the pond, seeds from the flowerbed , and shelter under the rocks.  But Marley figured that out too.

Iza preferred hunting in other ways.  Marley would wait patiently, she stalked.

She would feel around in any hole.

Sometimes, she would grab one.  Mouisies are kinna dumb.  They tend to follow things like flowerbed edging and Iza learned about that.  Ayla also caught many.  But she would slip into the underbrush and catch them away from their holes.

Three systems and all equally successful.  None of them were taught (each grew up as an "inside kitten") and none did it being taught be the other Mews.

It was also one of those days when the canned food arrived.  I kept (and keep) them on a pantry shelf, but I always set them on the dining table to alternate flavors and textures.  Poultry, seafood, beef; pate and morsels.  I don't know for sure if The Mews really care.  But variety matters to me, so I do it for them.

Marley was only 3 and Ayla was 6, but look at the difference in size!  And Marley has gotten bigger since then!
